So Devin waited. And waited.

And waited.

Until he couldn’t wait anymore. He needed to find out what was going on. What if Sebastian was out there, hurting her?

Devin slipped silently out of the room and down the wide flight of stairs leading to the sitting room. All the lights were out and he stood there in the dark, wondering if the power was out or if someone had turned them off.

Devin blinked, trying to adjust to the darkness, when he saw something poking out from behind the couch. It looked like a leg. Devin’s heart jumped.

He crept forward, and almost fell as his foot caught on something hard and unyielding.

His father and mother were lying there—dead. Their bodies were grotesquely disfigured; blood pooled beneath them. Devin went down on his knees, sobbing. No, this couldn’t be. He didn’t understand. His dad hadn’t yet arrived home, so why was he now lying there covered in blood? And his mom—he had just seen his mom and now here she was, her eyes open and unseeing.
