Chapter 1 Eighteenth Birthday

Sarah wake up!!

I woke up scared by the scream, I panicked thinking that a horde of monsters was attacking the village but a few seconds later I recognized that no emergency alarm was heard.

"Sarah, if you don't get out of bed, you're going to be late for the temple". Said my mother from the kitchen

Realizing that it was just my mom waking up me, I sighed in relief and got out of bed a little nervous and excited because today I am turning 18 years old.

Today I am not only celebrating another year of life, but it is also the beginning of my career as a healer, today all the young people who turn 18 must go to the temple to awaken their mana and finally have access to magic.

Leaving my room I went to the bathroom to clean myself, after 15 minutes I finished and went to my room to put on clean clothes. My clothes are simple, a gray shirt that used to be white but after wearing it and washing it so many times, it ended up that color, black pants and sandals. That's the most elegant thing I can wear since my mom and I are very poor and we can't afford much but that will change when I become a healer and become rich.

Looking in the mirror, I analyzed myself and I couldn't help letting out a sigh of disappointment, I didn't sigh for my clothes (I've already resigned myself to the fact that I only have that) but for my appearance, it's what you can call neither ugly nor pretty in just a few words average, the only thing that makes me stand out a bit is the dark blue eyes that I inherited from my father, well technically I am considered average for the beauty standards of mundane humans, from what I read in the town library, humans awakened from the special stage to the supreme stage are abnormally beautiful, in the book it says that since you advance from the initial stage to the special stage at the time of advancement your body will expel a black substance from the pores and it also says that it is very stinky is what they call impurities, by expelling this substance your body becomes stronger and your senses are sharpened and as a side effect it leaves you with beautiful skin without blemishes, the more progress in the stages the more impurities will come out of your body, so that compared to them, I am ugly.

Sighing again I left my room and headed to the kitchen. "Good morning mom" I said.

"Good morning little sun". Said my mother

"happy birthday little sun I hope you are happy this birthday and in the following ones and that the divine beings accompany you and protect you".

"Thanks Mom". I said, giving him a big hug.

After the hug I go to the table to eat my breakfast that only oatmeal. That is what I have been eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the last 5 years with a little bread and sometimes the neighbors give us some meat. Since dad died things have been hard for mom and she has been working hard to bring food home. So I appreciate what he gives me and I don't complain.

"Are you ready to go to the temple?" my mother said. "I'm worried since neither your father nor I could awaken the mana" .

"Don't worry mom I'm ready, besides if I don't wake up I still want to be a healer it doesn't matter if it's just being an assistant, you didn't pay me for medical courses with the librarian Hanz for nothing, if I wake up I'll become a powerful healer and I'll earn a lot money and I'll buy you a mansion and you'll see". i said excited

"Aren't you supposed to heal people and not just think about money?" My mom said sighing

"I know, I want to save lives and earn money too, I'm not a saint." I said, I don't want to sound like a hypocrite saying that I do this without asking for anything in return, I have no problem healing someone for free if they don't have money and are poor to pay for my services but if your financial situation is good they have to pay me.

After breakfast, I said goodbye to my mother with another big hug and left the house to go to the temple, today I will enter the temple as a mundane human and I will leave as a healer and nothing will stand in my way.
