Chapter 31

“Yes, Grandpa. I made it up, just so you know.”

“I know.” He laughed and started to walk off.

“Grandpa?”

“Yes, Winston.”

“I want to borrow the car today. As soon as Travis gets back.”

“Should I ask why?”

“No, but you’ll be happy if what I want is there.”

“Okay, but then I want you boys to take me fishing on the Coquille River in the next week. It’s only about nine miles or so. We’ll make sure the car batteries are charged.”

“Sure, Grandpa.”

Winston whistled as he waited for Travis. When Travis returned, he just about threw Travis out and said, “I need the car. Be back in an hour or so.”

“Hey, aren’t I going?” Travis whined.

“Nope.” Winston drove off. He was anxious to get to Bandon Rental Supply on Highway 101. It was only about ten miles from their place. He walked in the open gate into the rental yard, looking around to ensure no one was around. Then he spotted his quarry, a stump grinder. He was quick to pull it out and hook it up to the back of the car and take off.
