Evelyn is the love of my life

"You...woke up?" Edward softly asked looking at the patient lying on the bed. Due to loosing a good amount of blood, her entire body was pale and her head was bandaged tightly. Ugggh his secretary was really clumsy! Although it wasn't his fault but his secretary's, Edward still felt guilty and pity towards this little girl.Anyways, he had to take the responsibility too as he was the one who didn't ask his driver to drive the car.Their rush caused an unnecessary accident.

Hearing a voice beside her, the girl completely opened her eyes. Her long eyelashes fluttered like the wings of butterflies. Edward found it cute and for a moment, unknowingly his heart melted. "Where...where am I?" She asked looking around. She felt a little pain and dizziness coming from her head. She raised her tiny hands to touch her head. "Don't touch your wound. You are in a hospital. An accident happened to you a week ago." Edward uttered holding her hands to prevent her touching her head. She lowered her hands and he withrew his hands from hers as soon as she did it.

"A week ago?" She cried out shockingly. "Gosh, Then that means I missed my opportunity. Shit!" She cursed. Edward didn't know what she was talking about. Instead of asking about it he asked rather funny one. "What's your name?" Maria glared at him. "We met more than three times. And I'm the bestie of your sister. Still you don't my name?! What a shame! You are a forgetful, absent-minded, inattentive, unmindful person!" She scolded severely.

This time Edward didn't get mad at her, which was weird ofcaurse. Instead he laughed. "Silly, I just wanted to make sure whether you forgot things or not. With head injuries, some people face amnesia conditions. It seems like you are perfectly fine."

"Perfectly fine?" She repeated. "Are you kidding me? I feel like someone has beaten me up!" Edward once again felt guilty obviously much more than the previous one.

"I'm sorry, it's my fault. I let my secretary drive the car instead of calling my driver. I apologized to you on his behalf." Maria widened her eyes in shock. "What? You are so careless and stupid. Wait till I find Eviee and tell her everything you have done to me." Edward massaged his temples. 'This stubborn woman is trully troublesome!'

"Where do you think you're going?" He asked knitting his eyebrows when he saw her lifting up the blanket to get off of the bed. "Home." Maria blurted out. "Are you nuts? Your injuries aren't completely healed and you have to do a full body check up before getting discharged."

"I don't have that much money to spend on small wounds. We aren't rich unlike you guys."

"Then I bet you have no money to back to your house either." He said raising one eyebrow.

Maria: "What do you mean?" 'Dude, You think I'm that poor not to afford money for a taxi?'

Edward: "We are in Japan."

Maria: "..."

"I wasn't in JAPAN when your damn car hit me. I was in CANADA! Why did you bother that much to take me to Japan for treatments? Our hospital facilities are good too.You just wasted your money."

Eventhough she seemed blaming him on the surface, her heart was getting soft and warm. She never felt this way before.No one cared this much about her before. Not even that scumbag, Jared!

Speaking of which, although Edward's car was the root to her accident, the blame should go towards Jared. Because of him, she was restless for days and nights. Maria closed her eyes reminding the things that she had faced since their broke up.

FLASHBACK...

Maria was dumped by Jared. She was all left alone. She was sad,obviously. But she was angry,anxious,curious too because of his sudden decision. He never acted aimlessly or clumsily. In addition to his good looks, he was also a genious and only second to Evelyn in studies during the four years of the university life.

Maria liked him so she didn't want to let him go that easily. And he needed to give a proper reason and an explanation too. She had to clarify everything with him before moving on otherwise how could she even explain things to her parents? Both of their parents knew about their relationship and accepted it wholeheartedly. So what was wrong and where did it go wrong? Did he find another girl? She doubted. It must be it. Instead of cheating behind her back, he decided to end things between them. She liked that thing about him. But the thing was, he didn't give her a proper reason. She wanted to talk to him about it. She wasn't a clingy woman unlike most of women out there. As soon as he explained things clearly, she would definetly let him go. He had to respect their three years relationship but he didn't. She was angry about his irresponsible behaviors.

In addition to that, Maria decided to meet him. So she went to his house on weekend. Though Jared wasn't poor, he wasn't rich either. Thus he lived with his parents in a small apartment.

Maria pressed the door bell.

Ding Dong!

A middle aged woman opened the door with a wide smile on her face. As soon as she saw Maria, her smile faded away. She looked somehow... dissapointed. "Aunty" Maria blurted out. It wasn't her first time going to his house. So she was familiar with his parents and the surroundings. "Come inside." Mrs.Helstone invited her. Maria nodded, stepped inside and took a seat on the not so big sofa.

"Aunty, where is Jared? I didn't see him for days." She didn't beat around the bush and came straight to the point. Mrs.Helstone's face turned dark and sorrowful. She sighed deeply. "He moved out." "What?" Maria blurted out.

They graduated from the university this year and recently found their clinics to settle down. There's no way he could make money during such a short period of time to buy his own house. Even with the help of his ordinary parents' money. They literally couldn't afford it.

Maria could feel that something was a mess. But what was it? Only his parents knew that.

"I know it's unbelievable. But the truth is he's not our son. So he went to find his real parents."

"Whaat?" Maria blurted out again. It was too shocking. She couldn't believe her ears at all. 'What the fuck was going on? Is it the reason for him to dump me? But why? What is the connection? Is he related to me by any chance? Is he my cousin brother so he can no longer harbor any feelings for me? No freaking way! It's impossible. Surely, I am overthinking.'

"Who are they? I mean his real parents? And where do they live?" She asked after sometime. "I have no mood to answer you. Get out now." Mrs.Helstone said curtly. "I have no mood for listening to your family dramas either." Maria stated with a same tone like her, not being polite like before.She no longer showed any respect. She only respected to people who treated her in the same way. And she wasn't gonna come to his house again.So why would she bother about her behavior? She stood up and left. 'Hmph, what a mean and indecent girl!' Mrs.Helstone thought. Then she sighed heavily thinking about her son, whom she raised for many years with showing her unconditional love and treating him like her own flesh and blood only to see him leave them for his real parents who didn't even know about his existence.

As soon as she stepped outside, Maria grabbed her phone and dialed a number. It was Jared's best friend's number. His mother didn't tell her about where he was. Atleast his friend must know about his whereabouts. "Hello..." "Hey Noah, do you know where Jared is staying at?" "You guys already broke up. What is the point of clinging onto him without letting go? Sure enough, women are troublesome creatures. Better to be single forever." Noah said, sarcastically. Maria rolled her eyes.

"Who said we broke up? He was the one who dumped me for no reasons. I wanna clarify things with him. So gimme his location."

Noah sighed. "Then quickly go to the airport in D city. He is going abroad today. If you wanna meet him, go now otherwise I don't know when he will be returni..."

Noah squinted his eyes. "What an ungrateful woman! She didn't even thank me. Thank god Jeri dumped her." He mumbled under breath.

Maria waited more than three hours inside the airport. Finally when the evening arrived, she decided to head back home as she didn't wanna make her parents worry. Just as she stood up to leave, she saw a familiar figure coming towards her direction.

"Hey Jared Helstone!" She called out. He paused in his tracks and looked at the woman who rushed to his side."It's not my name. I'm Jared Tremblay. Not Helstone." Maria ignored his words. "Okay whatever. Jeri listen! You made me restless for an entire week. Can you atleast give me a special reason for breaking up with me? So I can peacefully move on from you having no regrets." Jared looked at her guiltily.

"I'm sorry Maria. I never loved you.But I didn't give you any false hopes either. Can you remember I never said that I wanna spend the rest of my life with you?...because I only love Evie. Evelyn is the love of my life. In order to be close to her after the rejection, I pursued you and became your boyfriend because you are her bestie."

Maria gave him a tight slap across his face with all her might. "You jerk, how could you play with my feelings, ha?" She tried so hard to prevent her tears from falling down infront of this scumbag. "Sorry" He said again and left. Maria took her bag and left the airport as well. She was fuming with anger and melting with sadness at the sametime. She didn't call a taxi and kept walking in order to calm down her messy mind and when she tried to cross the road, Edward's car hit her.
