Silas, swift as the wind, rushed to shield Kia, placing himself between the child and the vampire. "Do not harm the boy," Silas said, his voice barely above a whisper. "You will have to go through me first."
Vorath tilted his head to the side. "You should be wiser to know I am not the same as I used to be," he said. "I will kill every single one of you, then take the child."
Without hesitation, Azrael, who had just recovered from the initial attack, changed once more, slicing and hacking with parried abandon. Vorath parried each of Azrael's attacks, but he had to admit, Azrael's ferocity took him by surprise. Perhaps he has struck a nerve, which was a good thing as that was what he had intended to do.
