Chapter 11: Righteous devil
Zuri's POV
"Don't put me in the middle of your war with your diplomat! See, what you did! I can't go to college looking like a fried chicken, King Zuri!"
I tried to help it but it was inevitable as the laughter echoed. She indeed looked ridiculous.
"Then take online classes" I suggested.
"No, I want a real school with real experience and shit…even if I have to show up like this, I will go to college next week!"
I watched as Emily turned around and walked out without a word to Anton. I have a feeling that she doesn't like my only friend that much.
"Do you let her talk to you that way?" Anton asked.
Alright! I was officially irritated.
"What way, Anton? She's a kid, what way is she supposed to talk to me? You seem to be forgetting who you are talking to. We may be friends but I am still your king!"
"Just trying to help, Zuri. How long have we been friends for? Twenty years? We go way back to grade school…we've seen each other through tough times and we swore to be each other's compass. All I am saying is be careful of your sister because now that she has been presented to the house of Lords, she is going to be in the line of succession to throne…after you, Zuri"
I thought about what Anton was saying.
I wasn't a fool. I know when Someone is trying to manipulate me but it doesn't mean I ignore the truth in his statement.
I took a gulp from my drink and I walked away.
I tried to put away the small voice at the back of my mind asking…Is Emily out to get me?
Pru's POV
I sat in my room and stared in the mirror. I admit, shaving Zuri's eyebrows off while he slept was a little bit childish but totally worth it.
I bet he didn't see it coming. He must be beating himself up on how I was able to get a sharp object close enough to take it off.
I decided to check in on Emily before going ahead with my plan to steal the tiara in the royal vault.
With the king dumb enough to distract his guards by shaving their eyebrows, I had a window today to achieve my goal and strike where it hurts too.
Even if it's the last thing I do, I will make king Zuri regret dismissing the white knight as a silly little boy.
I made my way to Emily's room. Few seconds after I knocked on her door and opened it, I noticed something was wrong.
Then I saw it, Anton…bloody stupid Anton was butt naked and trying to assault the Princess, the girl I was supposed to be protecting.
I lost it.
When Emily saw me standing there, she ran.
It was instinct or something but she felt the urge to hide. She slammed the bathroom door shut and she slipped to the floor and stayed down.
I could hear Emily yell at herself inside the bathroom.
"Stupid! Stupid! Stupid.... freaking useless me!"
Everything I did afterwards was calculate. Let's see how Anton fares with a girl who could actually kick his ass.
"What do you think you are doing?" I asked as I slammed him again and again and again. He fought back but his fights went unnoticed, he was powerless against my angry hands and steady thoughts.
There was no dispute within me. All I wanted to do was hurt him. He fought back at some point, managed to land some punches.
Before I could do anything more, the door opened and Zuri entered with two royal guards.
"What is going on?" He asked.
"He tried to force him on the princess" I told him through my clenched jaw as I slammed my elbow into Anton's ribcage and he keen over.
"Where is Emily?" Zuri asked and I pointed to the bathroom door.
He went there and he knocked.
"It's me. It's Zuri. Can you open the door?"
"Why? So, you would call me a slut and slap me around like your friend? He said you wouldn't believe me…he said I was just a bargaining chip to you and he is right, isn't he?" Emily's voice resonated from the bathroom.
"Emily, come on…"
"I have no fight left. If you want to break the door, you should go right ahead.
I wonder what is more heartbreaking. Anton saying that my own brother would believe him over me or me actually believing that you would!"
"Tell me what happened, Emily" Zuri asked her.
"Why? So you would choose the words of your best friend over mine. No, thank you your majesty, I am good. I am perfect. I am okay I...am…unbreakable. I am goddamn wall…you think you all are going to break me?! I am a freaking Sanders! You've got better luck in b-breaking a fucking tractor with your bare hands than Emily Sanders! I am…I am untouchable. I…am…a freaking Volcano"
I understood Emily. I knew what it felt like having to explain yourself over and over again but no one pays attention at all.
I wondered what the devil would say to his sister.
Would he confirm her fears or would he be righteous for Once?
"But I believe you, Emily. Open the door"
I blinked and I blinked again.
Wait what?! He believes her.
Oh goodness, he believes her.
Emily unbolted the door.
Zuri was standing there looking at her.
"You believe me?" She asked him.
"I do. I am so sorry you thought otherwise"
The look in the kid's eyes broke my heart a little. She looked so surprised that her own brother chose her.
She flew into his arms even though he didn't offer. He didn't hesitate to wrap it around her.
"Hush, you are alright, Emily. You are alright, sweetheart"
"He hurt me" she murmured like a little child that suddenly found a sympathetic adult.
Zuri pushed her away briefly to look at her.
"Did he…did he?"
She shook her head vigorously.
" His attempt wasn't successful"
I swear I saw Zuri's face filled with instant relief. The kind that takes one's breath away.
"I am so sorry" he murmured and kissed her hair before he hugged her again.
For the first time since I came to Castaway, I saw Zuri in a different light.
