THIRTY TWO

"We need to act quickly, Alanna. If he finds out-" Azalea begins but is interrupted by an all too familiar voice that belongs to my husband. "Find out what?" He asks and we all freeze.
Just how much did he hear?
"Z?" I say but he just stares at me blankly. "Um, how long have you been standing there?" I ask and he blinks. "I just got here but that doesn't matter anyway. What are the three of you hiding from me?"
Now at this point, I have no idea what to do. Do I lie to him or do I tell him the dreadful truth? With his face all blank and expressionless, it's hard to tell if he'd lied. What if he'd actually overheard everything and is counting on me not to lie to his face? But still, what if he's telling the truth?
