The Night Before A War

C-crack! "Damn it…"

Furious, a man crushed the map and table laid out in front of him, ripping through the map without any care for the markers stretched across it.

"Calm down already," another man suggested, walking up to the first. He patted his enraged comrade on the back. "So we lost some agents. We'll just replace them for next time. For now, we need to hide and disappear."

"But we still need to finish–"

"No," the leading man stated. "To fail once can be a coincidence. To fail twice can be due to underestimating our targets. To fail three times… we were already pushing things past the limits of the operation. We've now failed four times. And we only have two agents left due to our failed attempts and our agents somehow getting targeted and snuffed out. All we can do now is leave and try another day."
