Putting away his admiration towards the Jade Pavilion, the steward led Wang Daoyi to the door of Ningguang's office.
Just then, a blue-haired woman emerged from Ningguang's office.
"Miss Yelan!" The steward greeted her respectfully.
As an attendant serving Ningguang, he naturally knew of Yelan's existence.
Yelan nodded in acknowledgment without saying much and promptly left.
After seeing Yelan off, the steward knocked on the door of the office.
"Ningguang, I've brought Wang Daoyi here!"
"Come in!" A pleasant voice emanated from the office, brief, efficient, yet with a hint of elusive languor.
Pushing open the door, Wang Daoyi saw a young woman seated behind a massive desk cluttered with documents. Not only that, but there were also several secretaries stationed on one side of the office, each surrounded by stacks of documents.
"Please wait a moment; I'll finish up with these documents!" Ningguang didn't raise her head, still engrossed in the papers before her.
Wang Daoyi didn't mind and busied himself examining the various postings on the office blackboard, ranging from financial news to basic commodities, from Mondstadt Winery to Favonius Bladeworks.
Admittedly, on Ningguang's information board, one could find a plethora of lucrative opportunities.
After a while, Ningguang set down the documents and glanced up, noticing Wang Daoyi engrossed in the information board.
"If you're interested, I can give you some of these messages later. They're sure to make you money!" Ningguang's voice interrupted Wang Daoyi's thoughts.
With a wry smile, Wang Daoyi displayed an expression of helplessness. "I don't have time to run a business."
Ningguang nodded knowingly. Many people sought information from her, but some didn't need it. These individuals were usually quite capable.
"You seem very interested in the information on the board!"
"I saw reports of the recent rise in the price of elemental shards!" Wang Daoyi confirmed.
"Yes, someone has been buying up elemental shards in large quantities recently, surpassing Liyue's normal consumption rate. It's abnormal, so I stepped in and bought up all the elemental shards on the market."
Ningguang's words left Wang Daoyi dumbfounded. He thought he had bought up all the elemental shards on the market, but it turned out Ningguang had stepped in.
"Why buy all the elemental shards? Wouldn't you risk stockpiling if the other party isn't a long-term buyer?" Wang Daoyi asked, puzzled.
Ningguang shook her head, smiling. "I don't mind stockpiling. I bought these elemental shards at a fair price. Even if the other party stops buying, I can gradually sell them off without incurring losses."
"Ordinary merchants fear stockpiling because they don't have enough capital to operate. But I'm not short of money. Even if I buy up all the elemental shards on the market, it's only a small portion of my capital and won't affect my other plans!"
Wang Daoyi understood. This woman was indeed wealthy and had enough capital to experiment.
"All right, consider it if you're interested in working for me!" Ningguang said casually, dangling her legs provocatively, her enticing thighs swaying before Wang Daoyi, exuding an intoxicating allure.
Setting down the documents, Wang Daoyi looked at Ningguang.
"What about the terms?" Wang Daoyi had no intention of serving Ningguang, but if she offered an irresistible price, he might reconsider.
"A million mora per year, and I'll grant you some of my privileges!" Ningguang was generous, offering a sky-high figure.
Unfortunately, the offer might attract most Vision holders, but it didn't hold much allure for Wang Daoyi. A million mora wasn't even enough for a few experiments for him.
However, the prospect of some of Ningguang's privileges intrigued Wang Daoyi. With those privileges, perhaps he could gain access to more knowledge.
But unfortunately again, he hadn't even fully comprehended the transmutation of elements and matter from the Favonius Codex, nor had he unraveled the legacy of the Anemo Archon. Recently, he felt powerless to pursue more.
Shaking his head at Ningguang, Wang Daoyi said, "I'm sorry, Miss Ningguang, you are indeed sincere, but none of these are what I want."
"I'm a scholar who loves reading and needs ample time for study. I can't agree to your offer of employment."
"But if you need any help, you can always come to me. If the remuneration is right, I can accept it!"
For the first time, Ningguang's expression changed. She had anticipated Wang Daoyi's refusal, but she never expected him to refuse her with the excuse of being a scholar.
Nevertheless, Ningguang was the Tianquan and quickly regained her composure. She decided to drop the topic of recruitment.
"All right, let's skip that topic and talk about the Fatui instead!"
"These days, you seem to be getting close to that new Fatui executive."
Wang Daoyi nodded. Since he hadn't colluded with Tartaglia, he wasn't worried at all. He simply told the truth.
"Yes, a few days ago, that executive found me and asked for help in introducing him to the guest officer of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. I did so, and they got along well, so we've been dining together recently!"
By bringing up Tartaglia directly, Wang Daoyi indirectly drew attention away from himself, implicating that Tartaglia was the Fatui's target, and he was just tagging along.
This proved to be effective. After Wang Daoyi finished speaking, Ningguang immediately thought of the guest officer from the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor.
A knowledgeable individual, Ningguang had yet to uncover the secrets of this guest officer and had rarely interacted with him.
In Ningguang's own words: "This guest officer from the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor is well-versed in many things unknown to others. But until I grasp his weaknesses, no matter how outstanding a pawn he is, I can't use him."
It was evident that Ningguang intended to recruit Tartaglia, but she hadn't expected the Fatui to approach Tartaglia first.
Perhaps thinking of something, Ningguang lost interest in continuing the conversation.
After accepting Wang Daoyi's gift and exchanging a few more words, she said she would send someone to deliver a batch of elemental shards to his teahouse. Then she instructed the steward to escort Wang Daoyi out.
