"My mom will be mad at me," Annie said meekly. How can she worry about something like that at a time like this? Who cares about her mom right now? She should be in prison!
"I will be right here with you, little hamster, don't worry. I won't leave your side," I promised Annie.
She didn't say anything else and nodded.
I called my mom right away. She would know what to do. Annie needed to leave her house, so she doesn't keep getting hurt by her cruel mother.
To my relief, mom got here sooner than expected. "Oh my, you poor girl. Are you okay?" she asked and hugged Annie.
"I don't know," Annie whispered.
"Oh, I know, sweetheart, everything is going to be fine," mom cooed. "You do realize I'd have to report this to the police, right? We can't let her keep hurting you."
Annie nodded silently, tears streaming down her eyes. "What will happen to her?"
