Since things had already reached this point, Han Shuo could only summon the Fire Elite Zombie, Wood Elite Zombie, Earth Elite Zombie, and Little Skeleton. Otherwise, he had no chance of defeating the bandits and the Church of Light.
Ripples of divine light slowly spread out from 'Revelation' as Kosse stood surrounded by six Templars chanting. These ripples slowly purified the land of death that Han Shuo had created with so much mental power. Han Shuo no longer stayed in the air to chase after Kosse. Instead, he slowly floated backwards.
With a wave of his hand, Han Shuo threw out the Bloodlust Fang. The moment it flew out, it brought forth a thick mist of blood. This demonic treasure that Han Shuo had meticulously refined had no aura of death on it. Therefore, he naturally had no fear that the holy light would purify it.
The bandits who were touched by the blood mist from the Bloodlust Fang began to let out terrible howls. The Bloodlust Fang could speed up the blood circulation in their bodies, causing them to explode and die as soon as their bodies couldn't handle the speed.
The bandits clenched their chests and roared in pain wherever the fog of blood spread, but they could not change the fact that the blood in their bodies was flowing too fast. Clear cracking sounds rang through the air as their bones broke under the terrible acceleration of the blood. Before the pain could fully register, the broken bones pushed through the soft skin, sending the trapped blood rushing towards the exit. Like a punctured kettle, the bandits would literally be torn apart by the pressure of the accelerating blood, dying instantly in the bloody mist.
As this happened, Han Shuo concentrated and waved the skeleton staff in his left hand. Soon, the Little Skeleton, the Earth Elite Zombie, the Wood Elite Zombie and the Fire Elite Zombie appeared. Covered by the mist of blood from the Bloodlust Fang, the Earth Elite Zombie sank into the ground and crept silently towards Kosse.
The little skeleton grabbed the Wood Elite Zombie and soared high into the sky, landing directly on the walls of Brettel City.
Under Han Shuo's orders, the little skeleton and the wood elite zombie took charge of guarding the walls of Brettel City. If a bandit managed to scale the city walls, the Little Skeleton and the Wood Elite Zombie were responsible for killing them.
The moment the Fire Elite Zombie appeared from the other dimension, he caused columns of fire to shoot into the sky. As he manipulated the flames, the Fire Lotus Signet on the Fire Elite Zombie's forehead became clearer and clearer until it reached the brilliance of a burning flame. As it flickered on his forehead, flame lotuses began to separate and float out.
The Fire Elite Zombie had gradually understood how to control the Flaming Lotus, which was a supreme treasure of fire. The flaming lotuses that emerged from the Fire Lotus were initially only the size of a fingernail. But that clearly wasn't their true form. The flaming lotuses grew in size as the wind blew, until each one was the size of a large bowl.
As the flames burned on the Fire Elite Zombie, larger and larger lotuses floated out from the seal on its forehead, growing in size until they reached the size of the largest lotuses floating in the air. They then flew towards the surrounding bandits. Any bandit who caught a spark from them was instantly incinerated.
The ferocity of this kind of flame was beyond their imagination. Even if they quickly tried to extinguish it with their water pouches, they were unable to put out the small sparks. Anything that came into contact with the fingernail-sized sparks would burn, no matter what it was. Skin, clothing, even armour and weapons seemed to fuel the flames and burn brighter.
In the space of a few breaths, those bandits who had been careless enough to let sparks land on them were howling. The sparks grew into great conflagrations that engulfed them in flames. The terrible smell of burnt flesh began to fill the battlefield as their bodies were incinerated.
The burning men were turned to charcoal, the living to the dead. The process was brief. Under the extremely painful incineration of those strangely beautiful flames, several bandits near the Fire Elite Zombie were turned into charred cinders.
On the other side, the earth elite zombie, buried deep in the ground, used his ability as the favoured child of the earth to steadily make his way to Kosse and the others during the chaos above.
As the Red Archbishop of the Church of Light, Kosse still had some mercy when it came to dealing with heretics. As he watched the bandits ignite and turn into charred pieces of flesh, Kosse took a breath from the sacred hymn he was chanting and shouted to the surrounding Templars, "Save them!
Han Shuo continued to use the Bloodlust Fang to harvest lives from the battlefield while keeping his attention on Kosse. When he saw Kosse slowly approaching, still within his circle of protection from the Templars, Han Shuo immediately gave the order to the Earth Elite Zombie already in place below them to attack.
The ground rumbled, vibrating like an earthquake as the Earth Elite Zombie began its attack. Earth spikes shot up, towards the Templars and the White Priests of the Church of Light. With their attention focused on what was in front of them, they were caught completely off guard, killing about ten of them instantly.
These earthen spikes penetrated the feet of the Templars on horseback. When this unprotected part of the foot was suddenly pierced by the spikes, the attack had miraculous results. Despite their excellent armour, the Templars fell from their warhorses, howling.
The Priests in White, who purified souls on the battlefield, were the target of Han Shuo's hatred. By purifying the souls of the dead, they had prevented the Demonslayer's Edge from gaining more power. This meant that they were indirectly hindering the development of the Demonslayer Edge.
The Demonslayer's Edge did not yet have a soul of its own. The Demonslayer Edge would only evolve and gain its own soul once it had absorbed enough soul energy from others. Only then would the Demonslayer's Edge become a truly incomparable killing tool.
Shuo had felt like a fish in water in the midst of the countless battles that had occurred after he'd arrived in Brettel City. As the Demonslayer Edge absorbed the souls of the deceased, its growth had accelerated. Han Shuo could even sense that the Demonslayer Edge was barely a step away from evolution. He was not going to let those pesky priests from the Church of Light put an end to it!
So when Kosse and the others approached him, Han Shuo ordered the Earth Elite Zombie to prioritise the white-robed priests. The priests, not usually in the thick of battle, were naturally unarmoured. Each earth spike managed to impale a priest, killing them instantly. After the earth elite zombie had finished its first wave of attacks, apart from Kosse, who was well protected by the Templars, none of the white priests had been able to escape Han Shuo's wrath.
"Demon! I must get rid of this demon!" Kosse tightened his grip on Revelation, then roared furiously at Han Shuo as he watched the white priests die.
"You asked for this! I've never offended your Church of Light. It was you who persecuted me relentlessly! Hahaha, from now on, I'll kill any Church of Light member who dares to offend me! I don't think I can kill you all," Han Shuo shouted coldly as he looked down at the trembling Kosse from his vantage point high in the sky.
"Shoot him down! Axes, spears, polearms, hurry!" Faust roared with a pained heart as he watched his subordinates being consumed by the sea of flames.
The remaining two bandit ballistas turned towards the Fire Elite Zombie at the centre of the sea of flames. At the same time, a multitude of sharp weapons were hurled at the Fire Elite Zombie. The lotus armour of the fire elite zombie rang out several times as it manipulated the fire lotuses with complete abandon.
Every arrow, blade, and sword fired at it was melted to slag or reduced to dust by the searing flames before it even landed on the Fire Zombie. When the remnants finally landed on him, the impact was completely negligible. The Fire Elite Zombie had the natural ability to rebuild its body after taking damage, and it had done so before. This body was already quite tough, so the soft blows to its skin did little damage.
However, even though the elite zombies of the five elements had been nurtured in the five absolute elemental places. The power in their bodies was not infinite. Nothing truly possessed eternal power. After twenty to thirty lotus flames poured out of the Fire Elite Zombie's forehead, it also grew tired and sent a signal to Han Shuo.
Han Shuo could clearly sense the Fire Elite Zombie's thoughts. The Fire Elite Zombie was still immature, so it would naturally feel tired after releasing so much power at once. Sparks flew everywhere the twenty to thirty lotus flames went, while the bandits who were touched by even a tiny spark were burned to death.
Around three hundred burnt black corpses were forever petrified on the ground. This was caused by the Fire Elite Zombie alone, who had not yet learned to fully control the power of the Fire Lotus. Once the Fire Elite Zombie matured to the point where it could control the Fire Lotus more skilfully, its lethality would become infinitely more terrifying.
What is more, when the elite zombies of the five elements were born, each of them would have its own natural cultivation method. This meant that when the elite zombies of the five elements first appeared, they were at their weakest. As they slowly ascended using their cultivation method, their strength would gradually increase over time, and they would be able to use their natural talents and abilities with much greater ease.
Han Shuo had no doubt that when the elite Fire Elemental Zombies reached the final stage, they would definitely be able to destroy the world. Moreover, they would also be able to work together in a formation. Since the Water Elite Zombie was also being cultivated at the moment, once Han Shuo created the most elusive Metal Elite Zombie, he would be able to easily practice forming the formation.
Having used up all his energy in one go, the Fire Elite Zombie began to show signs of exhaustion. With a wave of the skeleton staff in Han Shuo's hand, it disappeared into the other dimension amidst the raging flames.
As the fire elite zombie disappeared, the fire lotuses gradually dissipated into the air after losing their power source. However, they still managed to take the lives of fifty more bandits before they did.
The screaming, crying, and dodging bandits breathed a sigh of relief as they watched the life-taking lotuses dissipate. They secretly cursed and criticised the boss in their hearts. What was 'not too dangerous' here? The previously defenceless Brettel City had suddenly become a terrifying demon stronghold. Anything amazing or strange they could imagine - this place had them all.
At this point, more than half of the six thousand Greenfire bandits led by Faust had died in battle. Thirty-two hundred of them had died unexplained deaths, and about a thousand of them belonged to the elite troops.
Faust wanted to cry, but he had no tears when he saw the bodies littering the ground. Brettel City was like a demon city that had exposed its fangs. It was a relentless killing machine, and its violence and brutality were on full display.
The elite bandits who'd painstakingly scaled the walls of Brettel City were attacked by the two strange undead creatures. They fell one by one, gasping for air as they fell.
It was all thanks to the little skeleton and wood elite zombie.
Faust had originally thought that the Red Archbishop would easily break through Brettel City's defences when the Necromancers' curse - the Church of Light - appeared. Then Faust saw the little skeleton and the wood elite zombie slaughter the bandits easily after they had scaled the city wall with great difficulty, while the two of them raged madly under the holy light. Faust cursed eighteen generations of Kosse's ancestors in his heart.
What natural nightmare of a necromancer? What envoy of Light on the Profound Continent? Complete nonsense!
The Red Archbishop and the divine artefact 'Revelation' together can't even purify a puny skeleton and a few zombies? You're going to be the death of us!
Faust cursed inwardly. He saw bandits spontaneously explode as they were engulfed by the bloody mist emanating from the Bloodlust Fang. At the same time, he saw the men and horses of Kosse's team from the Church of Light unable to protect their own. Faust quickly tried to think of a countermeasure.
By this time, Faust had also figured out that Brettel City relied heavily on Han Shuo's support. Too many brothers had died or retreated in despair. If word of this spread, the reputation of the Greenfire Bandits would fall into a bottomless pit.
But if they didn't leave now, who knew how many more astonishing methods the terrifying city lord of Brettel had up his sleeve? In his heart, Faust was now truly afraid of Han Shuo. He privately cursed the bastard who had given him the information and encouraged him to attack this city a hundred times over.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh!
The distant ballista began to shoot again, bolt after bolt. Suddenly, flames shot out of the war chariots and fell directly on the Templars of the Church of Light. Three Templars and their horses were instantly sent flying.
The weary soldiers on the walls of Brettel had rested long enough. Slowly regaining their strength, the soldiers regained control of their defensive weapons to barrage the enemy.
"F*ck! Retreat! Retreat!" Faust did not hesitate when he saw the flames of the war chariots shooting through the sky. A million gold coins would be worth an attack, but in this situation, he might not even live to enjoy it. The resurrection of the chariots meant that the soldiers at the city wall had the strength to continue fighting.
Remembering the terrifying lethality of the chariots and ballistae from earlier, and seeing that less than half of his men were left, Faust painfully gave the order to retreat.
The bandits had been scared out of their wits for a long time and were only waiting for this order from Faust himself. They didn't dare stay where they were when they heard the angelic word 'retreat'. They followed Faust making a hasty retreat as fast as they could.
"Useless Church of Light! How the hell do you call yourselves the Messengers of Light?! You can't even cleanse four dark creatures, I'm really ashamed of you, blech!" Faust stopped his horse just before running past Kosse and the others. He glared furiously at Kosse in the middle of the Templars and spat out a thick ball of phlegm to vent his anger and contempt before actually riding off.
Faust had been played by Han Shuo from the beginning. When he'd seen the Church of Light appear and purify the corpses with holy light, Faust had thought he'd seen the light of victory. Who could have known that the cleansing power of the holy light wasn't strong enough? On top of that, more undead creatures appeared, causing even more damage. Faust felt that Kosse had played him for a fool, so it's easy to imagine the bitterness in his heart.
Had Faust not taken into account the influence of the Church of Light on the continent, had he not weighed the fact that the Templars were the trump card of the Church of Light; given his brutal nature, Faust would definitely have charged forward with his underlings and hacked these incompetent followers of the Church of Light to pieces.
"Shoot! Aim for the people in the white outfits!" Hovering in the sky, Han Shuo had pulled out the Bloodlust Fang, now dripping with blood. He shouted an order to the distant soldiers on the city wall.
The soldiers had regained their strength. Upon hearing Han Shuo's command, they immediately turned the war chariots and ballistae to fire what little firepower they had left at the Church of Light's group. The Templars and their horses reeled, and even Kosse was almost hit by the goblin explosives.
"Bishop, what do you make of this situation?" A Templar with a cross on his chest desperately protected Kosse as he asked hesitantly, as if he wanted to say something but stopped himself.
Kosse had been insulted by Faust before he left, and an ugly expression was on his old face. Kosse's sorry figure dodged the goblin bomb before closing his eyes and commanding in a low voice, "I have failed, again. It seems that this time I must see the Pope in person. Let's go, we leave at once!"
The Templar waved his sword behind him as soon as Kosse's order was given. The Templars grouped up and rushed forward to collect their thirty-seven corpses and place them on the warhorses. Then they left the battlefield, smoking with explosive residue, not leaving a single piece of the dead behind.
"They're gone, they've all retreated!" An exhausted soldier looked at the slowly disappearing enemies and smiled an ugly but sincere smile.
Some soldiers who could barely stand up could see the distant Han Shuo standing proudly in the sky above the battlefield like a demon god. They felt that as long as this city lord was alive, Brettel City would never be attacked by anyone from now on.
Han Shuo used the Yin Demon to carefully watch the retreating enemies. When he was sure that they had indeed retreated, he glanced at the scattered corpses that littered the vast, pockmarked battlefield in front of Brettel City and shouted loudly, "All soldiers with any energy, defend this place well. Don't relax for a moment!"
These people were truly exhausted. When Han Shuo's ears caught the deafening rumble coming from the other two city gates, he understood that the battle with the other two sides was not yet over. However, the soldiers on his side had no energy left to reinforce the other sides, thanks to this being the most devastating battlefield. Han Shuo knew that they were using every ounce of energy just to stay on their feet, so he planned to personally go to the other battlefields.
The anxious civilians of Brettel City heard the faint cheers of the soldiers on Han Shuo's side. These residents had been paying close attention to any changes from that side, for fear of being slaughtered along with the massacre of the entire city. Some brave souls had even climbed to the top of the city walls to watch the entire battle.
So when the Templars and Faust' bandit horde retreated, the civilians in this area immediately began to cheer. The people here had always lived in fear, but now they felt an intense sense of excitement and happiness filling their hearts. To be able to preserve their lives in the face of imminent massacre made them extraordinarily happy.
For so many years, the city lords had always been the first to flee.
Han Shuo's arrival had finally broken that tradition. He had seemingly turned the tide with the power of one man.
Han Shuo had used all of his miraculous powers to firmly guard the vast Brettel City.
The victory was full of twists and turns, but the fruits were sweet beyond belief. They had been limping along in life all this time, and now they felt an unadulterated excitement at this moment of victory, for they were the ones who had experienced it for themselves.
As the civilians on Han Shuo's side erupted in cheers, the people on the other three sides began to smile. At the city gates defended by Faulke, some civilians even took the initiative to join the fight against the foreign enemies. These civilians didn't know how to use the defensive equipment, but they could join forces by helping to move the huge boulders onto the stone-throwing catapults. Then they saw with their own eyes how the boulders they had personally loaded fell on the bandits, causing terrible casualties.
On Faulke's side, when the prepared boulders were used up, civilians volunteered to take household items from nearby houses and place them on the stone-throwing catapults. This dealt the desperate invaders an even more memorable blow.
The side defended by Dick, Chester and Fabian faced the Flying Dragon Bandits.
This gate had two magic crystal cannons, four war chariots, seven ballistae, six rows of stone-throwing catapults and a thousand elite soldiers. Dick and the others had no experience in commanding an army, so Faulke had provided a thousand skilled soldiers for the defence. Han Shuo had placed a huge amount of firepower on this side, precisely because he feared they might not be able to withstand being overwhelmed.
The leader of the Flying Dragon Bandits, Afie, was a petty, sinister man with a vicious heart. He'd had another plan in mind from the beginning. When Faust shot the signal into the sky, Afie didn't rush forward to attack the gates. Instead, he waited for the signals from all three sides before giving the order to attack.
Afie was somewhat frightened by the response signals from the three sides. He'd had his subordinates categorise the signals into three colours: red, blue and yellow. Yellow signalled that the attack was going smoothly, blue meant that there were some difficulties, and red meant that the attack in that area had suffered a fatal blow.
Of the response signals from the three sides, those from Han Shuo's side and Faulke's side were both red. This showed that the attack on those two gates had been dealt a fatal blow from the beginning. Because Dorcas had just begun to lure his enemies inside, and hadn't erupted with overwhelming firepower from the start, the Flying Dragon Bandits on this side only released one blue signal.
Two red and one blue didn't look too optimistic. Afie wanted to keep the bulk of his forces, so he had some of his minions outside attack the gate guarded by Dick and Chester.
Chester had never faced a battle like this before. When they saw Afie's bandits rushing over, they immediately gave the order to start an intense bombardment.
Since Han Shuo feared that they would not be able to withstand the attacks, the firepower on their side was the fiercest. The two magic crystal cannons and the war chariots spat out waves of flame at the same time as the ballistae and catapults unleashed their deadly barrage. Half of the several hundred low-ranking bandits Afie had sent out were killed instantly.
Afie jumped in fright. He immediately gave the order to halt and watch, his heart chilling with fear.
With his enemies successfully lured into his trap, Dorcas unleashed devastating firepower. Those closest to the source died instantly, and the few hundred bandits who had reached the walls didn't leave enough for a grave by the time Dorcas was finished.
When the bandit who'd fired the blue signal saw the previously calm firepower turn violent, he hurriedly fired two red signals in a row out of shock.
Afie was already a little worried in his heart when he saw the sudden two red signals in a row after the blue. He immediately ordered a retreat of a hundred metres, not allowing anyone to attack further.
Afie didn't mobilise a single soldier until the moment Faust retreated. He remained on his warhorse, glaring at the enemy on the distant wall, as if to intimidate them with his presence alone. Afie was waiting for the other bandits who'd attacked Brettel City to gain a foothold. Only then would he make a move against the bastards on the wall.
When the news of Faust' failure reached him, the frightened Afie knew that this time they wouldn't be able to reap any benefits. Without another word, he gave the order to retreat. The group of bandits, who had always advanced fiercely and bravely, now retreated quickly and far away, leaving about seven hundred corpses behind.
It was the first time Chester and Fabian had seen such a battle. When they saw Afie walking away dejectedly, they thought smugly, "Our side is indeed powerful. We're just fighting from a distance. Could it be that we have already scared them off with our momentum alone?"
