The First Demon

Achilles wasn’t sure what to expect from the “Frontier.” He had never heard it described in detail, having only lived in a small village.

Sure, adventurers sometimes came through and talked about their adventures on the Frontier, but they always described the environment in very vague terms. They spoke of dangerous forests filled with ruins and feral beasts, for one.

Well, Achilles lived in the middle of a dangerous forest, and he knew there were occasional ruins scattered around from an ancient civilization his parents told him had come before humans.

What he had not realized was what the Frontier ‘meant.’

A huge wall, about eighty meters high, rose far above a closer, thirty-meter fence of sharpened logs. Both walls stretched far from side to side, disappearing quickly into the forest. Achilles assumed, as they approached, that the “town” where Frontier adventurers lived was situated in the middle of these two.
