Don't Make Me Worry

A tense silence stretched between us, like a threadbare blanket, broken only by the rhythmic beeping of a nearby heart monitor. 

Mother sensing the discomfort, attempted to lighten the mood.

"Maybe we can ask someone from the staff for a wheelchair," she suggested, her voice laced with a strained cheer, her eyes flitting nervously between me and Ben.

My own emotions felt like a crumpled piece of paper, scribbled on and discarded countless times.

Each new revelation, each encounter with the bizarre, had rewritten my understanding of the world, leaving me with a confusing tapestry of emotions. 

Every twist in this crazy story, had also rewritten my feelings, leaving me raw and confused.

Ben, his face pale and drawn. He looked at me with a smile, his voice echoing. 

"I'm alright, really. I can just walk."
