“Nope,” Mars said. “Not happening. Take my word for it.”

Dylan felt a swell of confidence at Mars’ words. If he believes in me, then it’s time I did as well. After all, he knows me better than anyone, even me, I suspect.

“Gentlemen, we’re ready,” Jonah said from the doorway.

With Paul driving the Sprinter—“Because I’m undoubtedly the best equipped to use a van as a getaway car without killing us,” according to him—and Mars at the wheel of the Lancer, the team headed to the meet with Webb.

They arrived just before midnight. Paul dropped his contingent in front of the gas station then drove a quarter mile away to park on a narrow side road, out of sight behind a small deserted, and very ramshackle, house, where he settled in to wait. A transceiver on the dash would allow him to hear everything that went down so he’d know immediately if the team needed his help evacuating the area.
