[Richter's POV]
When we returned from the toilet back to the lounge; there were fewer customers than before, but there were still those gossiping bastards that wanted to know what was the outcome of the 'Puking maid' debut.
Before I could even think about sitting back on the table -that was already cleaned; Grayfia pulled me by my hand out of the restaurant, she couldn't bear to stay here!
"Let's walk somewhere else master, the farther the better"
I sighed and lead the way towards the places of interest in this city.
...
The Lucifuge Territory was gigantic; according to Grayfia, it didn't use to be this big. There were what these people called 'railway' a sort of vehicle powered by an engine that could travel terrestrial or through the sky, long distances in a short time. Although that couldn't assist me in any way, I still thought that invention was rather intriguing. Grayfia was surprised that I had never seen one of those as they existed even before she travelled to my world, only... they were more modern now.
I have been to many realms in Helius, but none as technologically advanced as this underworld, the most I have seen humans use to light up is a bonfire, candle or light magic... nothing quite sophisticated as these 'bulbs'.
"My scope is lesser than that of the other primordials, where there is gold... my senses are there, but in the case of other primordials, say, Ether... she can feel everything in the multiverse; I have to admit... I don't know how she does it. It took me a while after becoming primordial to get used to it. Let alone due to my greed of wanting to take all the gold for myself I became stronger but my awareness of the multiverse lessened as a result" I explained to Grayfia as we walked through the peaceful streets.
"You never explained to me how your powers work, master" she held her chin in contemplation, extending her hand forward where the sparkles of gold and ice could be seen floating beautifully. I nodded in appreciation and pride.
"I'm going to need to introduce you... since Primordial Gold has acknowledged you as my apostle, that means you now hold an amount of the faith that I receive through gold, it is because of my scale... that is the reason your wings are golden".
"The system also says that my race is 'Draconic Demoness' master, I think the fusion with the Heart Lineage was what made this possible".
"Don't hold any doubt... if I had placed my scale inside your body without the Heart Lineage to serve as a conduct, you would have died... turned into gold from the core out... but now, my faith imbues your power, I'm going to have to train you, and you also need to know how to control the powers of that Devil Fruit".
"Hmn" She nodded; taking my arm between her breasts in deep thought. I don't know if maids are supposed to walk like this with their masters but... I'm not about to tell her anything.
We walked along the streets until she caught a glimpse of something that made her stop.
I frowned, thinking it was some unknown danger.
"What's wrong?"
Her silver eyes were focused on someone, a person that was walking in our direction.
"H-How...? that person... he's a fallen angel..." She pointed at an individual that resembled a butler, coming our way, said man noticed Grayfia's piercing glance and began to walk faster, passing us by. Grayfia didn't bother to conceal her hostility and even turned around to keep him within her sights.
He looked normal to me until I sensed him. his composition did indeed look different from devils, even then... I had already sensed many like him, but I didn't think it was anything worth stopping for.
"What is a fallen angel?"
"They're angels that have fallen".
"..." I deadpanned and she giggled before giving the back of my palm a brief peck. I like when she does things like these... but I'm punishing her anyway.
"Sorry master, allow me to rephrase it... angels are beings of light created by god to do good on the earth while we devils are the opposite, we spread debauchery and 'freedom' for humans in the form of contracts and that's how we purchase their faith. Fallen angels are angels that committed a 'sin' and therefore, fell from the grace of God. Their wings turned black... you can say they're wicked beings, some of them even more wicked than devils. Our enemies are Angels and Fallen Angels".
"Then why is that guy here?" I reached that conclusion immediately after hearing her small story, no wonder she's surprised.
"That is the question I'm asking myself... why is no one killing him yet?"
"Well, I can sense dozens of them around us".
"Huh?!"
"There are dozens of them in an area of ten kilometres around us, radically less than devils, but they're here nonetheless. I'd have to check a longer distance to see if there are more. There are also those angels that you said... they have halos on top of their heads, right? they're easier to recognise"
"IMPOSSIBLE!"
Grayfia seemed to take issue on this subject, she was even about to walk forward and intercept that fallen angel when I stopped her.
"Master, he's the enemy!" She didn't fight against my hold, but her words told me that she was dying to engage, I merely shook my head and we saw how the fallen angel began running away, what's worse, the devils were looking at us as if we were alien beings.
"Stop, things might have changed more than you anticipate... if you cause a scene here, it will just bring more trouble than it's worth. It is better if more people are not slaughtered needlessly, get hold of information first before acting".
I had already killed an unknown amount of people, even if I didn't care about their lives, it would make things difficult for Grayfia. If she engaged in a further massacre in this territory which belongs to her family. It would just continue to deteriorate things. As much as she says she doesn't care, I know she does. The Heart Lineage didn't manage to take over her consciousness, which means her fundamental values are still in place.
She still cares about her family and her race... only, she cares about me more.
Grayfia had an expression that told me she was holding back from killing that person right here.
"If no one is doing anything... it is because him being there is natural, not a crime. Think carefully before you engage".
She calmed down and once again held my arm in her chest tightly, inhaling and exhaling.
"Thanks, master... but I just... I can't understand! millions of our devils died... even our old devil kings perished! how could he be walking there like it is nothing!?"
"That's a question you should ask your parents when you see them".
We continued heading down the road, ignoring any fallen angel or angel that we came across. Grayfia continued to see things that didn't make sense the more we walked.
"There are fairies... dwarves... e-even mermaids? their existences are not odd, but why are they in the underworld? what could have happened for things to change this categorically".
We happened upon a small plaza with several fountains, it was gorgeous. There were several statues. Grayfia sighed when she recognised one of the smaller ones. It was her father, Lord Lucifuge. Her sigh told me everything I needed to know.
Beside it there was an even greater statue, it was a woman covered in robes, her position made her look like she was spreading her arms widely, waiting for something... her whole body covered without even her face being visible. She had no weapons, no nothing, her arms and feet were bare, it was as if the only thing she had were those robes.
"Do you know her?" I asked Grayfia.
"I-I don't know... never seen her before"
Intrigued, we headed to the plate description at the foot of the statue, it read:
SAVIOUR OF THE DEVILS - EMPRESS OF THE WORLD. GODDESS CALLIOPE.
"Saviour of the devils, Empress of the World?" Grayfia repeated with furrowed brows.
The many changes in Grayfia's world that even she couldn't have expected gave me many different thoughts, it has been five hundred years and given my experience I can tell that categorical changes can take place in society, but only if an individual with a powerful fate is involved.
"Grayfia... what was the thing this system promised you again if you accomplished the mission?"
"It promised that my devil race would attain salvation" Grayfia said, holding her delicate chin, "But... that was if I accomplished the mission, but I didn't... we were still sent to the future, unless... it is not the future? is it the present?" she held her head as if feeling a headache.
I smirked, whenever an individual capable of manipulating the laws of time is involved, headaches are sure to come, "Was that all?"
"N-No... it also said... we would reach... supremacy" She gasped, feeling as if she finally understood everything.
