The Great Catastrophe

This world was divided into 5 known continents.

The four draconic poles, namely Agnir in the East, Zephyros in the West, Borealis in the North, and Raijor in the south were home to four of the five pure dragon races.

In the center however, spanning from the lower part of the northern hemisphere down to the upper part of the southern hemisphere, was the supercontinent Paegos, ten times larger than all the draconic continents put together.

It was the home of the peace-loving nature dragons, along with the majority of the remaining six intelligent races.

The nature dragons lived in harmony with the lesser races, often providing them aid in their menial tasks as an act of benevolence.

However, Peace is a fickle thing, and as such, it is never meant to last. Fueled by greed and hopes of conquest, the humans, in conjunction with the demons, set out for Raijor as well as Zephyros.

Upon reaching the dragon homeland of Raijor, the humans were given a warm welcome by the five Thunderborn clans as the first guests in a very long time.

The explorers were left awestruck by the sheer abundance of raw materials and untapped resources that they surmised, were present on this new land.

On the contrary, the demons were utterly stupefied by the complex architecture and rich cultural heritage of the western continent, although they were met with somewhat strained hospitality.

The two races knew they could never hope to match the dragons in power, much less conquer them. So they decided to take a different approach.

They began trying to build friendly relations with the countries.

Eager to have any sort of contact with the outside world, the inhabitants of Raijor signed a treaty of trade and friendship, heralding better relations between them and the humans for times to come.

The dwellers of Zephyros however, were not as keen as their southern kind. King Lewain Zephyros, The reigning Dragon King of the West at that time, was an incredibly shrewd individual.

Putting his intelligence to work, he uncovered the nefarious plot of these lesser races.

He shunned all kind of contact with the central continent, leaving the residents of Paegos to focus their attention solely in the south.

Meanwhile, relations between the humans and the Thunderborn reached new heights, and both cultures flourished due to the social interchange.

The peak of their friendship could be seen when the Princess Zavia Raijor, daughter of King Verza Raijor, was sent with the humans as an ambassador to visit the central lands.

King Lewain on the other hand, sent his swiftest messenger to alert his southern brethren of the treacherous nature of these lesser creatures.

Arzo Parwaz, a young dragonling with stunted wings and an underdeveloped body, carried his King's message to the southern land as fast as he could.

Despite his handicaps that came from young age, Arzo was still one of the fastest dragons in the Kingdom, and the King has high hopes from him when he matured.

The humans, with help from the demons, conjured up their strongest mages as well as a 'Witch Practitioner' of the forbidden arts to halt the young messenger in it's tracks.

A massive battle ensued on the coastal piece of land, nowadays known as the Cape of the Lost Dragon.

Although still a child, Arzo was still a member of the mighty dragon race, wiping out most of the enemy forces before succumbing.

On the other hand, the humans drugged the dragon princess, and then trapped her in a cage they had specifically designed to completely restrict the flow of mana.

Completely vulnerable in the human form she had taken to blend with the lessers, she begged for mercy, warning the humans of the wrath of her kind.

Ignoring her words, the humans sent an envoy to bargain with the Dragons. In his rage at the humans' betrayal, Verza had the envoy killed and fed to the lesser beasts.

The humans, in retaliation subjected the princess to repeated assault instead of just killing her outright, lest they lose their precious bargaining chip.

What the humans did not know, or perhaps did not deign to remember, was that the Dragons were a proud race.

Hearing this infuriating news, King Verza rallied his soldiers for battle. King Lewain, on the other hand, had already assembled his war council upon hearing about the fate of his loyal retainer.

This time, the whole of Lewain's army flew to Raijor, and after several exchanges by both sides about the treacherous invaders, They allied their armies with the aim to eradicate these lessers from the face of the Earth.

For months afterward, the dwellers of Paegos lived in fear of raging typhoons and merciless bolts of lightning, as more than a third of the continents' population was wiped out.

The other races, in order to protect themselves, allied with the two perpetrator races and finally, with the help of the Dragon Emperor Darzo, King of the nature dragons as well as Ruler of the five pure blood races as a whole, drove back the combined assault, eliminating most of the attackers in the process.

Sensing their impending defeat, the two Dragon Kings unlocked their mana seals, and in exchange for their lives, unleashed a massive disaster In the form of a crackling thunderstorm that went on for forty days and nights.

The Earth's crust cracked under the strain, and the once mighty supercontinent of Paegos began to break into different pieces.

The movements of the Earth's crust caused tremendous earthquakes and numerous volcanic eruptions.

Covering the atmosphere in a layer of ash, the planet's surface temperature dropped considerably, giving rise  to an 'Ice Age' for centuries to come.

In the process, eighty-five percent of the planet's population was wiped out while the Fairy race ceased to exist all together due to their zero tolerance to anything below room temperature.

"And that my child, is the story of the Great Catastrophe that marks the beginning of this world's history." affirmed an elderly voice in a cheery tone as I was yanked back to reality and my mind started leaving the dreamscape.

"Wait, who are you?", I called out. "Just a passing benefactor, my dear {%©\%}", he retorted. My body shivered uncontrollably as I realized that he had spoken my name.

The name that I had buried along with all memories of my previous life.
