Chapter 6 The Doctor and Ghost

After the TARDIS land the Doctor enthusiasticly tell Rose what year they have landed in, Rose with excitement rushes to the door, however the Doctor stops her telling her she needs to change her clothes otherwise she may start a riot, after telling her the directions to the wardrobe Rose runs off to get changed.

After returning in clothes of the time period " that's better let go than" Rose looks at the Doctor " what about your clothes" the Doctor just brushes the question before he can move Rose runs to the door opening it stepping out the Doctor following behind shortly.

After closing the Door behind him the Doctor turns to see the snowy street of what he thought was 1860 as they walk the see a man handing out newspapers, taking one the Doctor looks at it, before folding it "I got the flight a bit wrong, it's not 1860, it's 1869" Rose reply was swift" I don't care","and it's not Naples" ,Rose repeating her previous response " it's Cardiff" that causes Rose to stop" right".

As the Doctor and Rose are walking through the streets they hear Screams" that's more like it", both enter a sprint in the direction of the screams, they eventually arrive a a large theater that has people running out of it, see this both head directly towards the crowd, pushing their way through till they are inside to see an old lady in the seat section close to the stage with a strange blue energy coming from her.

The Doctor makes his way to the stage while Rose notices a older man and you women in a maids outfit making there way to the old women who appears to have collapsed, after seeing the two grab the old women Rose shouts to the Doctor telling him she will go after them.

The Doctor just shouts for her to be careful while he has a conversation with the man on the stage about what had just seen, the man was quick to accuse the Doctor have beening the one behind it.

Rose follows the two to see them stuffing the women in the back of a long carriage, seeing the Rose walks over and stricks a conversation with the maid trying to get past her to see what they have done to the old woman, as she succeeds she puts her hand on the neck of the old women in the carriage only to feel she is cold and has no pulse, before she could complain much the man who was originally with the maid puts a cloth Infront of Roses mouth causing her vision to go black.

After Rose had collapsed due to the chemical that was on the cloth the man asked the maid to help him put her in the carriage, to which the made complies with his order, helping the man put her in the back of the carriage before asking" what he did that for" the mans reply was fast " she saw too much" , with that they both get back on the carriage before getting moving back to the house.

The Doctor rushing out of the theatre to see the man and the maid put Rose in their carriage, however before he could get close they had already started moving, looking around The doctor spots a carriage, he runs directly to it entering, however the man from the stage was following after an brief argument the Doctor pulls the man into theb carriage, before telling the dirver to chase those that took Rose.

The Carriage begins to move the carriage driver ask the man calling him buy his name, while asking if he should remove the Doctor, the Doctor hearing the man's name looks at the man in suprise questioning the man if he heard correctly, that the man in front of him was actually Charles Dickens.

After getting absolute confirmation and talking about the short stories, the Doctor finally mentions why he wants to chance the carriage they are following, after hearing this Charles ask why they were focusing on his book when there was something more important, quickly telling his driver the chase was on.

The carriage comes to a stop at a house that is used as a funeral home, getting out the Doctor and Charles make their way to the door and nock on the door, after a few minutes the maid that the Doctor had seen take Rose answers opening the door before quickly saying they were busy at the moment, telling them that they shouod come back later, Charles was having none of it telling the girl that the dead are staying dead.

After a few minutes a scream is heared the Doctor not waiting anymore pushing the maid out of the way heading to where the scream came from before opening the rooms for seeing Rose surrounded by the walking corpses, before grabbing her and pulling her to him the corpses see this and look at him, the Doctor give an introduction of Charles for Rose before turning to the corpses," my name's the Doctor. Who are you,then?, what do you want?".

His word sheem to reach the corpses as they spoke"failing! Open the rift, We're dying, Trapped in this form, cannot sustain, help us" after they finish they start to scream before blue translucent energy comes out of their mouths before the corpses collapse on the ground, the energy heading for the gas light on the wall.

After that all who had witnessed this event left moving to one of the reception rooms before Rose started yelling at the man who had taken her and locked her in a room with the corpses, after she finishes the man replys by saying it's not his fault the dead were being restless, stating that they do not stay down.

He also mentioned that the house had the reputation for being haunted but he had no problems till three months ago when this all started, Charles was constantly calling it all fake obviously in denial of what was happening.

The maid had started to bring every one tea, when she brought the Doctors his she mentioned the tea was just they way he liked it, this caught the Doctors attention curious about how she knew, after a few seconds he came to the most likely reason how she was a rare human who had some small amount of psychic abilities as humans would say, but it's more to do with the fact that she was living on a crack in space thus causing her already open mind to develop these abilities to see what she should not.

After that the Doctor had enough with Charlies constant dental telling him that he was there and that he should accept it, unfortunately Charles still whole heartedly kept denying what he saw, the Doctor just sighs, eventually telling Charles not to waste his time and shut up.

Turning to the man who he assumes I'd the funeral director the Doctor askes about the gas, the man just says thats new and that he has never seen that before, the Doctor points out that this means it's getting stronger, while also saying that mans the rift is getting wider and that something is sneaking through.

Rose ever so clueless asks what the rift is, the Doctor just says it's a weak point in space and time, while also pointing out that it's a point that connect her to another place, to which he also confirms that these rifts are the cause for ghost stories most of the time.

The funeral director come to a realisation before confirming that this was the reason he got the house cheaper than he normally would, the conversation goes on for a bit longer as Charles leaves the room, shortly after the Doctor follows him.

The Doctor finds him in the room with the corpses in thier coffins, looking for something that proves it's all fake, seeing this the Doctor speaks up by apologising for telling him to shut up, before explaining how a corpse was a perfect vessel for these things because of the gas produced from decomposition, hearing this Charles just talks about how he can accept the fact that the world is not as he thought.

After dealing with Charles existential crisis the Doctor leaves him to find Rose, it did not take long, he found her with the maid who had a scared look on her face while Rose just looks confused as hell, it did not take the doctor long to realise before speaking, after talking about her gift the Doctor drops the bomb that they are going to have a seance.

After gathering everyone into the reception area and having everyone around the table they were set, however as usual Charles was being difficult after making his usual joke convincing him to sit down the seance began, after about of reassuring the maid the blue energy took form behind her and began their plea for them to put the maid Gwyneth in the archway to open the rift for them to come through, even going so far as to say they will use the dead since they are useless to those presents.

After a small while the seance ends with Gwyneth being extremely exhausted, Rose tries to convince the doctor to not let them through as it could kill Gwyneth, the others curious to what they actually are, before the Doctor confirms they are aliens.

Gwyneth convinces Rose she wants to help save the aliens since she can open the rift for them, with the doctor also pointing out that Gwyneth was their only hope, after a few more words Rose lashes at the Doctor saying that they should respect the dead.

Eventually after a back and forth Gwyneth say she wants to help them, hearing this the Doctor asks where the most activity happens, the response he gets is the morgue, Rose was not happy mentioning she was hoping he would say a more nice place.

After that they hall head to the basement which is where the funeral director said the morgue was, once we get to the basement is a small room with an archway that divides the room, as they all enter the energy appears in the archway telling us to send Gwyneth into the arch.

Once Gwyneth was in the arch more of the energy started to appear possessing the bodies in the room before the main blue energy turns orange and starts saying words of conquest, it did not take the Doctor long to realise they had been tricked.

Not long later the funeral director is killed and possessed as well, Charles however ran away trying to escape, all the Doctor and Rose could do was retreat behind a metal gate as they watch the energy entity gloating about it's victory.

Rose had started talking about how she could not die since she was not born yet, unfortunately for her the Doctor tellers her that time is not liner and it's possible to die before the time you were born.

Just as the Doctor and Rose had accepted that they would die Charles runs in yelling" it's the gas turn it on and it will draw them out", after finishing he runs to the gas light fitting cranking the gas up while covering his mouth, the possessed corpses turn to face him before moving towards him.

Charles begins to question if he was right until the doctor yanks a gas pipe next to him causing the energy to be sucked out of the corpses, the Doctor and Rose leave walking up to Gwyneth as the Doctor tells her the entities lied they are not angels and to send them back.

Gwyneth tells him she can't but she can keep them here taking out a machbox containing matches, seeing this the doctor put his hand on her neck feeling that she was dead, seeing she was dead the Doctor apologies before running out of the building.

As the doctor leaves Gwyneth takes a match and ignites it causing an explosion that takes herself and the energy down along with the house. The Doctor barely makes it out before he explains why Gwyneth was not with him, hearing it Charles get philosophical before they all turn leaving heading directly for the TARDIS.

Once they arrive Charles ask the Doctor who he is " just a friend" after getting a vague answer Charles realises that the Doctor may know the future, so he asks if his stories will be remembered, the Doctor tells him that they will be remembered forever before turning entering the TARDIS.

As they enter they see the Mechanic waiting for them" everything go ok" to his word the doctor just nod before heading the console before pulling a display to show the outside saying they should give Charles one last suprise before in engage the TARDIS flight.

Charles standing outside watchs in awe as the TARDIS starts to dematerialize, after the TARDIS is completely gone he starts to walk away laughing to himself excited for what he would write when he gets back to London.
