Chapter 13

Chapter 13

Ryan McFlame ~

For about nine hundred years, I have led the rest of my brothers who survived the awful fate of our kind. We took refuge in the deserts, the only place that nature allowed us to possess.

We made it our home.

Amongst some other creatures we walked and lived.

Our true nature at times brought us some trouble along the way but we always made it out in one piece.

All hell was let loose when we were ambushed by some lycan creatures who surprisingly didn't seem like the ones that I had known them to be. After a brutal fight, we managed to escape into the skies.

After the attack, we knew that someone out there was in for us. We are the last phoenixes that escaped a very powerful curse meant to bring about our extinction so I guess that's enough reason to have jealousy over us and our abilities.

But what's the point if we are immortals? Even if the certain someone catches us there's no natural way that he can kill us.

We are good friends of the lycan king, Leonard so why on earth would he sent a couple of lycan assassins after us? Or has something dreadful occurred beyond our knowledge in the inside world?

We traveled and through the help of some old friends, got to know that the lycan king was murdered in an attack not too long ago and his kingdom was overtaken by the certain someone who killed him and shockingly was anonymous to everyone besides his reputation for leaving traces of corpses everywhere he goes.

That explained the attack.

I was good friends with King Leonard and to the extent that I knew him, there was no way that he would have ordered such a betrayal of trust. I felt sad at the loss of my friend but having an entire league of phoenixes under my protection, gave me a more pressing reason to find us a safe reason.

Besides someone out there wanted us. If he or she could take down one of the most powerful creature in existence as well as his throne, taking down a couple of others like we phoenixes shouldn't be a problem.

I retorted to taking my league to the far off Eastern coven of the vampyres. Frederick Claw or at least the vampyre in charge of the coven, Liam Adamson would be in to grant us some protection. It was a lot 'different' seeing as I haven't been in these woods for centuries.

I and my brothers got to the coven at the very late hours of the night. We knocked at the gigantic blue gates right in front of the coven and a guard came out. I told him that I was Ryan McFlame, that I and my league refuge over the danger sweeping all over the supernatural world and that we all had traveled so far a way to get here.

We talked for a while before he shut the gates behind him. The guard went in for a while, came back and with a smile, showed us in.

"Ryan McFlame." I heard Frederick say who surprisingly was here instead of his golden gate-guarded coven.

I have lived with the vampyres for a long time and to the best of my knowledge, every high coven had a particular identity label. The high covens were to protect the four cardinal points of the kingdom.

The Eastern Coven was to bear a bright blue gate.

The Western, a bright red gate.

The Southern, a bright green gate.

The Northern, a white gate and the zenith of them all was the Vampyre Royal Coven which bore a golden gate.

"Frederick Claw." I replied as he walked up to me inviting a hug.

"Too bad that our coming together isn't on a more festive or more friendly circumstances." I added as he broke the hug.

"Come in. I am as anxious as you are to end this madness." I heard Frederick say to the league of phoenixes behind me as he led us into a room.

"I presume you have answers. Last three moons, my brothers and I were ambushed by a pack of lycans. They were lycans but at the same time, they weren't 'lycans'." I said as I and my brothers took some seats for ourselves and sat down.

"My friend, a lot has happened since we last met. A LOT!!!" Frederick said making an emphasis on his last words. "I take it that you still remember my sister." He added as Alessia, Queen of the lycan kingdom came and joined us in the room dressed in a dilapidated clothing.

"Queen Alessia!" I heard my brothers say giving Alessia the courtesy of a bow.

"Well, if it isn't Alessia Claw." I said getting up from the seat with my eyes glued to hers.

I took her by the hand and placed a soft kiss on one of her fingers. Despite the circumstances of our meeting, she was beautiful.

As always.

"The guard mentioned that you all came a long way and I can only but try to imagine how stressful it was for you all." "Why don't I let the guards show you to somewhere you all can lay your heads for the remaining hours of the night?" Frederick added breaking the contact between Alessia and Ryan.

"Thank you. We have a lot to catch up on." "It would be better if we take it all slowly. The important thing to be noted here is that we're safer now." I said with full smiles towards Rex and Paul.

I and Frederick exchanged some words after which, a lady that I presumed to be one of the vampyre maids came around. She and certain others came bringing some food for us to eat and refresh ourselves. After the light meal, we headed to the big room shown to us as where we were to lay our heads for the night – a majestically adorned room fit for a king per say but with vampyric settings.

For the first time since the attack, I slept with both eyes closed.

I knew that the vampyres were our allies in whatever battle was coming.

I knew that with them, I and my league of phoenixes had our best chances of surviving whatever and whoever sought after us.
