- This Rich Lady is a baby

The Elven Kingdom Grecira is ruled by a monarch and their court of representatives. Today, where the monarch and court members have assembled, there is only one seat left empty.

While thinking he might be tardy, the elf was actually not planning to come at all. In fact, he might not for another few days. Afterall, his wife gave birth!

Adelynn awoke only to feel sticky and feverish. The world around was blurry and the sunlight made it 10x worse. She closed her eyes reflectively, and began crying. As she sobbed and wailed, a blurry woman in a white hat started cleaning her, then bundled her in a towel.

Adelynn didn't understand what the heck was going on.. why was she crying like someone murdered her entire family infront of her? Who are these women around her: with the hat, with the extra towels, with the basin, dying on the bed..?

Wait! Adelynn made a shocking realization, shocking herself into silence. With the wails of the child going quiet, the staff migrated to the woman who just gave birth. Instead of handing the baby over, extensive care was started. The staff panicked as extra towels were brought over, dipped into the basin, and placed around the woman, before being stained red. Clearly, they were unprepared for their current situation. The woman was groaning in agony, twisting on the bed and looking around for a nurse with a good expression. However, they weren't good at all. Even her husband, the child's father, was pacing around the room in fright.

Sensing what was coming, the lady with the hat carried Adelynn away from the commotion.

They entered a room with less natural light and Adelynn started to see the woman's full features. She was shocked further. The woman's skin was light caramel, the layer of makeup she wore made it look incredibly smooth. Her eyes were huge and green with bright colored eye makeup all around, they looked attentively looked at Adelynn. After a moment of just staring, she pursed her lips and ran a soft thin finger down Adelynn's temple.

Feeling the soft temple, she tilted her head as though confused. Adelynn looked back confused. She understood she was a baby now, simply from the way she was carried. The woman looked like the average person, though Adelynn had never seen someone with such big or caked-up eyes.

What confused the woman? Look at her, she was just a baby. However, if Adelynn could see herself, and knew more about her new parents, perhaps she would understand better.

The Master and Madam of the Bell family were native to Grecira, so obviously they were elves. In fact, they were purebred elves whose families never had a history of breeding with other races, like humans.

Yet, somehow, the baby in the woman's hand was as human as she was.

Both of them were startled out of their thoughts when the Master of the house slammed open the doors. Adelynn's newfound sensitivity was triggered and her wailing began, completely out of her control.

"Master, you mustn't abruptly enter anymore, children are sensitive and easily alerted." She warned, though her warning fell on deaf ears. Bodie was already too muddle-headed by the scene he had just seen, he couldn't listen to anything extra.

When he entered Adelynn's sight, she noticed a few things. Firstly, he stood 2 heads talker than the woman, his body, well, bones, seemed thinner, even his hands, which when comparing man vs woman his should be bigger, were noticably smaller. Most noticably, his skin color was... mint green?

Adelynn was handed over to the man and between her observations, her tears were soothed. She didn't pay any mind to the strangeness of being soothed the way she was, when there was the strangeness of a green-skinned man! Unless, was he a goblin?

No, of course not. Goblins weren't real creatures, outside of games. Along with everything else from various fantasy games, which were all the same unrealistic thing, even her favorites.

Despite this, she wasn't able to deny this world didn't follow her world's "realism", and whatever she was just born into, she would have to learn a lot..

Bodie looked down at the white-skinned, round earred, and big-eyed baby in his arms, stunned. This.. This couldn't be his child?

***

Adelynn sat on her little butt in her towering crib facing a bunch of toys thrown in. She stared listlessly, then reached her small white arms out, her fingers came short of a bear-looking one before she retreated, causing the two maids watching to sigh. She too, sighed.

Several months had passed.

Adelynn was now renamed 'Addilyn', which was spelled differently but pronounced the same and annoyed her to no end. In addition to her first name, she had the names 'Baysan Bell'.

In just a few months she learned quite a lot about this new and strange country. Luckily, it was similar to her original in many small and big ways. For example, this country, or Kingdom apparently, was founded on a planet named Earth. Grecira, as it is called, has it's official language being English, though some words Adelynn doesn't recognize.

More small things would include the existence of high class, middle class, and low class, though those of each class were respectively called nobles, phebians, and commoners. Adelynn learned this by overhearing her two maids ranting about the head butler. Apparently, they are commoners, he is a phebian, and, as she guessed, they were serving her noble father. She didn't know what qualified the butler to be middle class though.

On that topic, Adelynn was rather satisfied with the spirit's wish-granting. She expected a freshly rich kind of setting, but preferred what she was given, birth into a family with wealth in their bones!

This time from her "father"(she would never call him that, even if it was technically true) she learned she was the only daughter, the only child, of Grecira's only marquis, him, and famous female scholar, her "mother". Although his tiredness was clear on his face in the beginning, he still explained thoroughly the greatness of his wife.

Who died.

Adelynn thought about how her mother died in both lives giving birth to her... she couldn't convince herself to fully care. Whenever the marquis, Bodie(she had to overhear because he kept referring to himself as 'Dad' instead), started talking about Emil, as he lovingly called her, she could see the same look her father, Remington, would have when he talked about her mother, Madilyn.

And, in the same way Remington loved her unconditionally, Bodie seemed to still wholeheartedly love her as well. This made her feel reassured in her future. She knew the wonderful life the beloved daughter of a rich man had.

While a marquis was not held in as high of regards as a duke, there were multiple dukes. She didn't know how many, but Bodie's status as the only marquis made his position much more important, among other factors. At the same time, there were many scholars in Grecira, even more who study Arcanum, the kingdom Emil studies. However, majority of the scholars in Grecira were male, especially those who studied Arcanum. Emil was a role model for elvish woman, plus her studies were internationally famous, earning her enormous reputation and wealth.

Unexpectedly, the spirit put Adelynn in a very beneficial position. That was one wish successful in all aspects.

Adelynn learned a about the world though, not just Grecira in general. In her few months alive, she has learned the existence of 3 kingdoms and 3 species.

The first kingdom was obviously Grecira, the Elven Kingdom. One of the most peaceful and equal kingdoms, despite what Adelynn speculates is misogyny. Instead of one king, there was a board of representatives made up of the high nobles and select phebians. Naturally, Bodie had a seat.

The next kingdom she learned about was Shartana, the Human Kingdom. Instead of peaceful and equal, Shartana was apparently suffocating to live in. There were 5 social classes: nobles, warriors, merchants, artisans, and peasants. Anyone who wasn't a noble, or a lucky warrior or merchant, was very poor, apparently. Most of the staff in this mansion seemed to be human, characterized by their oddly large eyes.

That staff included Adelynn's two maids, Mia and Mya. Mia being the one who held her when she was born, and Mya being her sister who was hired recently.

The head butler, however, was from the third kingdom she learned about. Arcanum, the Fairy Kingdom.

Although that's what it was, only Bodie referred to it as so. The other occasional voices Adelynn heard referred to Arcanum as the 'Magic Kingdom'. As such, she knew it was the kingdom most focused on magical things, or, maybe that's what they called science?

It was hard to tell, as she'd never seen or heard more of what this 'magic' is. Though, the Arcanum and it's specialty is what Emil studied, among others. The fairies who live there are popular for being attractive, according to Mya. And, unlike in Grecira, where all races are welcomed and there is not racial supremacy, Arcanum places foreigners even lower than their peasants.

With no context for why, Adelynn has assumed it has to do with the lack of 'magic' in other kingdoms. Since the head butler, Alroy, is the only fairy among the staff and she hasn't heard him talk much about his home, that's about all she knows.

Though, she isn't curious anyways. While magic, whether strange or just science, is cool, it also isn't something a baby should be concerned about.

That was another strange thing, actually. Adelynn still pondered this every morning, but why can she still remember everything?

In fact, her memory was even stronger, wasn't it? Originally, Adelynn had one of the best photographic memories in her family. She still forgot some things though, like when she was a little kid.

Yet, after laying around with nothing to do but eat, sleep, cry, and make a mess, she realized she could remember those childhood me mories she'd forgotten. Although that was weird, she also found it kind of rude.

After taking the spirit's offer, wasn't she supposed to forget her unfair death?

Why did she not forget, but instead remember the most heartwarming parts of her past life?

Did the spirit find joy in giving her reasons to cry at night?

Adelynn really did perform the feats of a baby by almost always crying. She was ashamed to say she did so whenever she remembered her family, all of her brothers, her sisters, nieces, nephews, and mostly, her father. She didn't have a good relationship with her siblings as they all got older, but they were all close when they were little. As such, she still treated their children well.

In all honesty, she missed her family.

Naturally, they're who she thought about most. Including now, as she dismissed the toys brought by Mia and Mya.

Apparently, these toys were popular with elven children. Each one looked like a knock-off version of the animals from her world: A pink bear with a small snout, six toes, and sharp ears. A peach giraffe with a dangling neck, no spots, and sharp ears. A purple duck with a peacock-long tail, a lighter colored bill, and uncharacteristically sharp ears. Lastly, there was hard toy 'Peri', which Adelynn thought closely resembles Hares, with two long, sharp, ears, gray coloring, and a cute little nose, though it also had a much longer body than a hare would. The nose was a button, if you press it the peri's mouth would open and a green tongue would stick out.

According to Mya, this toys are 'very realistic'...

Adelynn was a little more interested in what the outside world held.

However, she wasn't sure how to feel seeing these toys, knowing why Mya would use her own salary to buy them. Simply put, she was a 100% human baby born 100% legitimately to 100% elves. Not a sliver of her blood was human, yet here she was.

The strange event was only known by few, which included her personal servants and Bodie's close adversaries, not even the mother's family knew. Naturally, one of the most important men in the country could stop this news from spreading.

Since most of the staff were human, Mia seemed to fear Adelynn would grow up influenced by their behavior. As the saying goes, you can take someone out of their home, but you can't take their home out of them.

That's why she recommended her sister when the original 2nd maid changed jobs. Mya was an avid reader who was convinced to move to Grecira after reading a lot of elvish literature. She also chatted with everyone she met, so Mia was confident in Mya not unconsciously pushing human culture onto a supposedly elf child.

They weren't the only ones who did this, of course, and Adelynn was troubled. In fact, she already made an assumption on why she was born human. She didn't think it was because in her past life she was human, as she could've been given two human parents instead. But, instead that it had to do with her second wish.

She never got a good glimpse of her mother in this life, but her 'father'... well, he was very attractive. She has yet to see the fairy butler, but after subtly spying on the other male staff, she was confident that elven genes were superior than human.

Furthermore, although elven genes were superior, there weren't green-skinned, pointy-earred elves in her world. No matter how superior, there was nothing concrete to assume she would agree with this world's beauty standards. So, maxing out her beauty for her to be the most gorgeous human alive, while giving her elven genes that could actually make her that beautiful, was somewhat reasonable.

Afterall, how much weirder would it be for a pretty baby to be born in a very ugly race?

Or, maybe that was only weirder to someone like Adelynn.

Either way, being born human caused brief confusion. Luckily, Bodie didn't seem too uncomfortable with a human daughter. Though, he still verbalized his hopes that Adelynn, or 'Addilyn'(she hates knowing that's how he envisions her name when he says it), will grow to look like Emil.

Although Adelynn wanted to say that would be unlikely, she didn't completely doubt it happening..

Still, at this moment, her thoughts were a mix of the strange toys and her 'real' family.

Adelynn was only a little happier her family couldn't see her as she is now(though her father and older siblings have already seen her as a baby), it's really too pitiful. Stuck in a crib, in a diaper of all things, with two maids waving baby toys and speaking in 'baby blabbles'.

Obviously, she couldn't speak. But, seriously, she felt like they were mocking her, a grown woman.

Tired of this, and unwilling to cry only 10 many after her last tantrum, Adelynn turned away from the two maids. Now that she was almost a year old, she had a way to travel great distances, such as her crib.

She got on all fours and started crawling. She was actually quite skilled at it, despite how embarrassed she was first learning to.

She swiftly crawled away without a single stumble, somehow earning a few claps of praise from the maids she was escaping. Sadly, while she had to crawl, they could easily take two steps and be in her face once again. The effort was for nothing.

As Adelynn stared off into space, now forming spit bubbles, the room door started opening.

The room was made for the purpose of housing small children. When Bodie had first inherited the mansion, he allowed his staff to turn it into a daycare for their own children. After marrying her now deceased wife, it was refashioned to fit a noble elf. Yet, born instead was noble human.

The walls were painted a solid, soft-scented sepia, with white accents within. The room was smaller than most others in the mansion, but it still had 3 full-sized windows. Several handmade window ornaments were hung, they were made by the married couple.

As Bodie walked into the room behind the family's personal doctor, and his close friend, he couldn't help but nostalgically look around. Everything in this room, from the dark brown colored walls, the baby's crib, to the large multi-colored, mainly yellow rug in the middle of everything, he and Emil either made it or purchased it together.

In the end, his darling wife didn't even get to see her child before her death. Than again, maybe that was for the best. Imagine how confused she would be during her final moments.

Bodie and a elven gentleman walking two steps beside and one step infront of him walked up to Adelynn's crib. She noticed the new additions to the room, her so-called father and so-called professional doctor. He didn't look anything like the doctors she had.

However, she was unwilling to sink into those memories and all the feelings that came with them. She closed her eyes with the intention of going to sleep. Until, Bodie took her into his thin and strong arms and held her up.
