Seeing this, everyone in the class was shocked and confused. Shouldn't Danny beat him up and mess with him? Isn't that the normal occurrence? Then why was he running from the scene like a mouse seeing a cat? Maybe he was afraid that if he beat him now he might die in his current condition, he could seriously hurt him since Max had just come back from the hospital. But shouldn't he at least say something to him? Max messed with his girl, after all.
As Danny walked away, everyone was bewildered, including Gwen and Cedric. Seeing this, Max was happy and thought, 'His father might have thrashed him up and down. Hahaha…'
With the troublemakers out of the way, Max wasn't bothered to go after them and ask for answers.
"Max, what is happening here?" Cedric asked. "Did something happen between you two? Why is he acting weird?" Gwen asked.
"Maybe he's reflecting on his actions for his bad deeds," Max replied.
"Do you think we are kids or something?" Gwen asked.
"Yeah, there is no way something like that would happen," Cedric said.
Seeing that he couldn't keep hiding the truth about the incident, Max said, "Alright... I'll tell you everything when it is time. Until then, don't ask any questions."
Max's response confirmed there was something suspicious going on, but Gwen and Cedric didn't want to push too much and make Max uncomfortable.
Just like that, the first day back at school after the incident came to an end. As Max was about to go home, he saw Gwen standing at the school entrance. Cedric had said he had something to do and had gone home early. It had taken some time for Max to get out because he had to meet his class teacher, Mr. Michael Morris, to catch up on what he had missed.
"Hey Gwen, are you waiting for somebody?" Max asked.
"What? Ah... yes, no, I mean no one."
"Then why are you here, not going home?"
"Oh, I-I was just going to…"
"Now why are you the one stuttering? Normally, aren't I the one who stutters when speaking to you?"
"That... it's nothing."
"Well, suit yourself. By the way, today I'll walk you home. If you don't mind, that is."
Hearing this, Gwen blurted out, "Why suddenly…" She thought to herself, 'Argh... you idiot, isn't this the perfect timing you've been waiting for? Just say yes.'
"Is that a no?" Max asked.
"No, of course not. I don't mind. But why so suddenly?"
"Just going to visit some relatives. They live near your house, so..." he said.
"Alright then, let's go," she said.
It was Cedric who had encouraged her to tell Max how she felt today, and then he had run home to avoid being a third wheel. As they walked, Gwen's heart raced, and she hoped she could find the courage to confess her feelings.
