Entry 12: The Talk

"Sir, we have yet to see who wins this-!"

"There is no need for that, there has been a change of rules recently."

Change of rules?

"WHAT?!"

"What is it, sir?"

"The main change is that for the main event, instead of sending one representative, the Three-way Combat will have two contestants per bloc. That means that the two of you will be selected to fight. Rest up and be prepared. No need to waste more energy."

Well, that was awkward.

Everyone in the class was silent. It is understandable though. We just saw two men fight and all of a sudden, they are stopped because their fight was useless. This is certainly very awkward since no one is reacting.

"Woohooh! Congrats to both of you, brothers! You fought well."

Whether that was intentional or not, Dustin's reaction certainly lightened up the mood.

"Congrats."

"Hey, bring them to the infirmary so they can be treated."

"I will bring the two boys to the infirmary. Ms. Representative, continue the selection of the representatives then you may end the session."

After Teacher Gilberto announced his intentions, he then left together with the wounded Frank and Caelan.

Even though there will still be some lingering emotions, the distribution of the representatives continued.

I ignored it because I do not want to be selected. All I am thinking right now is Frank and Caelan.

If I were to guess, I would assume that Caelan triggered Frank by calling him names. Based on their conversation earlier, Caelan involved my name which would probably trigger Frank even more.

After the meeting ended, I was approached by some of my female classmates.

"Alex, are you sure won't participate in any events?"

"Yes, I would rather let most of you have the opportunity since you are all confident. I would join next time if there is a chance."

"Oh my god, you are so kind!"

"Giving way for the others is such a gentleman move!"

"I knew you were kind, Alex!"

"Haha… Thanks. Now I shall go my way."

After that weird encounter, I walked toward the infirmary to meet Frank.

That was really strange. Why were the girls talking to me as if we were close?

"You must be wondering why those girls are talking to you."

"WAH!"

I was surprised when Jasmine came out of nowhere.

"Where did you come from?"

"I was always behind you."

"Then where are you going?"

"Probably the same destination as you do. The infirmary."

"Why are you going there?"

"Because I am the Class Representative. The least I can do is to check on my injured classmates that were fighting earlier."

"Do you really need to do that?"

"Yes, not because I am concerned about them. I am concerned for myself and our bloc. Our fate rests upon the hands of those two and I need to see if it was correct to pick the two of them."

Wow, she is really capable. She was already looking that far ahead. I guess my mind was just filled with worrying about Frank and being amazed by Caelan's skills.

"I see, by the way, I did not expect to see this kind of side of you. This… uhm… let's just say expressive side."

"What did you perceive of me before then?"

"I expected you to be the model student that follows the teachers and never talks from behind. You know, -"

"You mean a Teacher's Pet?"

"I guess that is right? I mean you even volunteered to become the representative. The type that tries really hard."

"I would be a fool if I do not try hard."

I was taken aback when her expression suddenly changed.

"I came from a poor background. I tried my hardest in order to attain the level that I am currently at right now. To be honest, I could care less about being the Representative, but I need to because that is part of my goal. In order for me to achieve my goal, the minimum requirement is to try hard."

Wow, that was something else. I was stunned.

"What about you? I expected you to be someone that works really hard since your friend is the same way. Now that I am talking to you, you seem like someone that has a lot of freedom and isn't afraid of making mistakes."

"What are you trying to say here?"

"I am saying that you do not seem like desperate enough to be part of this Academy, especially the Bloodless Bloc. As you know, we are the lowest out of the three. Are you not taking things seriously because you want to or because you can afford to not take things seriously?"

-----

That statement made me pause.

"You can go on ahead, I will talk to Frank next time…"

"No need to take my word seriously, Alex. Those were just my observation. Do not take me wrong, I like you. I would like to have you as my friend. Let's talk again next time."

And then she left.

I rushed to a place where I can get my own alone time.

I figured I won't get that in my room which is why I headed toward the rooftop.

It was more spacious than I expected. It is perfect.

What Jasmine said earlier certainly opened my eyes.

I can see why she is trying hard. I can see why Caelan was aggressive. Even though most of them are still timid, you can still feel the ambitions of my fellow classmates.

The fact that we are Bloodless makes them even more desperate.

I am not Bloodless…. Yet.

I should have known this earlier but the bloodless are the underdogs. I have always been the bigger dog my entire life which is why I was immediately noticed as someone that seems different from others. Yes, my clothing was noticeable, but my entire image and mindset were still that of royalty. I need to erase that. I need to change.

In order to do that, I believe the best way possible is to change one drastic variable in my life.
