I gave the new cats my most winning smile. I was very pleased with myself. I did really well to take special note of their names when Grandpa Bell was telling his grandfather stories.
"Oh good. Where is my book?" I looked from the white cat to the black one - who was still just a large head stuck through the gate.
"I knew this was the right gate to now." Edel nodded to itself.
Ori was more cautious, "You said that the last eight times..."
I rubbed my cheek on Peony's very fluffy head, "If you are here to deliver Dan Lion's book, this is the correct now."
"I found her first." Peony informed the new cats, "She called my name first."
This caused the white cat, Edel, to decide to ignore Peony completely. It looked all about Dad's office - everywhere except for the direction of the big orange tabby in my arms. Eventually, it decided to take note of Dad, "Do I know you?"
Dad and Beta Lucas exchanged looks as if trying to decide how to answer.
It was at this point that Ori decided this should be the right gate after all. He stalked into the office. We all had to back away because he needed that much space. Dad's office was getting really crowded.
"Well, that's all of us." Perri informed me from where he was comfortably nestled in Wolfgang's arms. He narrowed his eyes at the black panther, "Indoor size, Ori. We are in the alpha's office, not the hinterlands."
Hinterlands = the remote areas of a country away from the coast or the banks of major rivers.
My cats liked to talk funny.
The black panther, Ori, shrank into the size of a housecat and then disappeared under the coffee table. Like he pretty much stepped onto the shadow under it and melted into the dark patch.
I checked under the table, "Where did he go?"
"Sam, focus." Ben said, "Books. Do you want them now or later?"
So impatient, this Beta.
I wasn't much better.
"Oh right. Let's go." To Dad, I said, "Just give us a minute, Ben and I will be in and out in no time."
"I wouldn't step into that if I were you." Peony warned from in my arms. His claws came out in alarm when I took another step forward, "Stop! Stop! Edel's terrible with directions!"
I stopped to consider the yowling cat. His fur was standing. Peony was very, very, fluffy. I stroked it's fur down.
"What's this about a book?" Peri asked. It was very funny because Peri was still being carried in Wolfgang's arms and when he spoke like that, it looked like Wolfgang was performing a spot of ventriloquism with a cat puppet.
"There's this guy named Dan Lion who wrote this book." I tried to explain. I just wasn't really hitting it tonight.
"Dan Lion?" Wolfgang asked, "What did he write? I don't recall this name."
Why? Did Wolfgang think he should know every author in the world? But in this case, he did know Dan Lion, or at least he one day would.
"He's your friend." I said, trying to explain.
Wolfgang frowned, "I do not know anyone by that name, princess."
"Well, not yet... But..." And then I decided that it was too complicated, "Don't worry Wolfie, you'd like him."
Sorry it's so short. will try to write longer tomorrow. <3
Edit: I realized there was some weird thing going on, where instead of starting a new line, the words showed up with a number "1"? Oh well, fixed it... along a few typos along the way because you know how these things slip in like the shadows... and "one day" I will go back and edit them all out. one day... lol
I also changed the title to what it was supposed to be. Sorry, I've been lacking sleep.
