Despicable

Eguru had way too much luck for a couple of minutes. For two minutes, actually. What felt like an eternity to Eguru was only a handful of seconds. The reason he'd been lucky the entire time?

There was no light at all. He could barely see and had avoided multiple walls and trashcans only out of luck.

But then it eventually happened. Not being able to see while running around in the dark, he tripped. It had to happen. Fabio was now only a few steps away from Eguru and decided to slow down. "Oh, not doing so well in the dark aren't ya?"

He couldn't see it but he was looked down on. While Fabio was basically moving in slow-motion like in every other cliche horror movie Eguru thought about every possible way to get him out of this situation.

Failure. In every scenario he thought of the only outcome was death. Although there was an exception. 'Right! What about that other person who seemed to be luring around us?!'

The killer was talking to Eguru but he ignored him. All his concentration, all his attention was gathered for his hearing.

"Hey", Eguru suddenly felt a paining pressure on his back. "You think you can just ignore me while your life is on the line, huh?" A voice full of anger was now filling Eguru's ears.

Unfortunately he couldn't make out where the other person was and wasted his time. But at what cost?

Fabio pulled the other man's hair, dragged it and slammed Eguru's face into the wall of a house. Not being able to avoid that he had to take the hit. Being in severe pain he wanted to scream but at the same time he felt numb. The only thing he let out was a abrupt squeak before once again falling onto the ground with his entire body.

"That's what you get." All of a sudden Eguru felt as if he was holding his face close to a fire. It was warm and pleasant. With time it got hotter though and he was reminded of that pain he just forgot. His nose was bleeding, his forehead probably had a scratch, well, a laceration and other parts of his face were injured too.

"Why..." he whispered. His foolishness had led up to this. "Why wasn't I able to think one step ahead...?" in his tiny, silent voice full of despair he whimpered. "I'm so pathetic..."

At this point he didn't know whether to give up or not. He should've known that going in here would lead to this. "Well, well, well. Stand up, buddy. Time to say goodbye". Fabio laughed maliciously and pulled the other man's hair once again. "Get up. Your time is over. I gotta end this before Verzo shows up."

'Did he say Verzo...?!' Hope started to come back to him. 'If he makes it just in tim...!'

Getting dragged by his enemy his flow of thoughts was interrupted. As he was ordered to he stood up. He heard Verzo's footsteps coming closer every second. They slowly became louder. His heart was beating even faster, his throat was dry. He was facing Fabio who was swinging around with his weapon. Eguru only now noticed that he could see a bit in that darkness and looked the other man dead in the eye.

Fabio was coming closer to Eguru and he stepped back. 'Just a little longer...!' he thought while sweat was running down his forehead, his nose still bleeding and his face still hurting.

He felt his friend coming closer and reaching them soon but his hearing wasn't on his side a moment later. His heart was pounding so loud it filled his ears. Both were stepping slowly. One away from the other while the other did the opposite.

'If he wants to end me why doesn't he just do it? What is he thinking? It's over for him once Verzo is here. He stands no chance against him!'

Finally. Verzo arrived. He was behind Eguru and was rushing towards him. Even though he couldn't see him, he just knew it was Verzo coming to save him.

Seeing how Fabio's face changed into fear slowly, he basically ran backwards now without knowing where he stepped. It was only a matter of seconds, milliseconds even.

As soon as he felt the presence behind him he was sure it was over for that other man. "Verzo!", he turned around. "Yeah, I'm here."

Fabio couldn't hold back his laughter. Time was moving so slowly for Eguru and what was a second felt like a minute. He was hot and about to relax in relieve. But as soon as he saw the other person's face his somewhat relaxed face was full of misery.

Verzo wasn't here. Fabio fooled him. He played with him. "You really thought Verzo was gonna save you? HOW FUNNY!" Fabio came closer and put a hand on Eguru's shoulder. His head was next to his ear and he whispered something to him.

Immediately Eguru fell into despair. All hope was lost.

Suddenly he felt something sharp tingling his stomach. When he looked down he realized that he had been stabbed. With force that blade was pulled out of his body and Eguru collapsed to the ground screaming in pain.

His body was hot and he felt like he had a terrible fever. Blood was flowing out of his body rapidly and he was shaking. To make the pain more bearable he started punching the wall next to him. However it only made it worse.

All his power was leaving his body and those two people watched him suffer without remorse. Eguru spat blood. Multiple clots left his throat and his vision started to blur.

He fucked up. Verzo was being chased by this city's guards due to him killing a normal citizen. A double of Fabio. Both of them have messed up fatally. Eguru pays with his death while Verzo is now a certified criminal..

The two murderers continued to stand there and watch Eguru suffer. The pain he was feeling only got worse and his paining scream was turning into screeching. "How does it feel to die? Do you feel like crying? Does it hurt?", the other man that was not Fabio asked him.

Fabio then told Eguru that he'd have about ninty seconds left but he couldn't hear him. Memories were right in front of his eyes. Fragments of his adventures 700 years ago, memories of his time spent here and most importantly - pictures of his loved ones.

'I'm really gonna die a second time, huh? How despicable I am man. It ain't fair. It just ain't fucking fair...'

His eyes closed, his breath slowed down and his heart was about to stop beating.

Tears were coming out of his closed eyes. His hot body began to cool down. Eguru's mind was blank...
