Growing up, Min Yize never had dreams in life. He was just a wrecking ball ready to crush.
He was unremarkable in every way. His features were plain, and his academic record was nothing special. He was the epitome of an average person – someone you might meet, chat with for a few minutes, and then instantly forget.
The only thing that set him apart from others was that he was good at lewd talk, or maybe he was just a pervert.
At the end of his school life, he joined the police because there was nothing else for him to do.
He didn't want to turn into a Madao (1).
He started as an officer, but after catching a few criminals, he was given an offer to be an agent. Naturally, he did not refuse; it was money for him anyway.
Even till now, Min Yize doesn't like his job—who does?
However, he still liked the people he worked with; they were like family and made his mundane life more enjoyable.
Yet, today, members of his family lost their lives right in front of his eyes. His life was no longer insipid; he felt feelings he had never felt before.
Joy.
Grief.
Here is a polished version of the text:
He felt a jarring sense of awakening, as if he had finally confronted the harsh realities of his life. Overwhelmed by a sense of powerlessness, he couldn't help but wish that he had been born with more smarter.
Perhaps, he thought, things would have turned out differently. Maybe no one would have died today.
...or maybe, he would be working a prestigious job at a top corporation.
Just then, Kang Yimo, who was sitting beside him, snapped, "Tsk, stop sighing. I get it, it's hard to get turned down by a woman!"
The young man shook his head, correcting her, "That's not it at all."
Kang Yimo furrowed her brows even deeper and kept her eyes fixed on her binoculars.
"Then stop sighing and help me!"
"Yes, ma'am." His tone was heavy with boredom.
He adjusted his seat and stared at the rear-view mirror, and life sparkled in his eyes.
"Look at that man! He is asking us to be suspicious of him!"
Kang Yimo brought her eyes to the back of the car with a vein popping on her face.
'I am going to punch his stupid face if he's lying—!'
He thought process paused for a second.
'What?!'
"It is not him! It is them!"
Her jaw almost touched the ground with what she was seeing.
Ahhh!! Yeah!!!
All sorts of cheering sounds came from outside their pickup truck. The source of this noise was a group of people wearing black face masks of different sizes.
What made the police agents' eyes shrink to pins was that this group of people had weapons in their hands—bats and axes.
"What are they planning to do with those...?" Min Yize asked in disbelief, as if he were in a dream, but he soon got his answer.
Wham—!
Someone swung his axe at the back of the pickup truck, tearing apart the tailgate into two parts.
It didn't stop there as the other black-masked men quickly began wrecking the car.
The police agents got out of the pickup; Kang Yimo was swift to show her badge.
"A.P.D! Stop what you are doing and come with me!"
Her words seemed to have ignited the flames in the vandals, as they all charged at them, shouting all kinds of cheers.
Bam—!
Min Yize was hit with a cricket bat on his shoulder, and for a second, he felt a stinging pain that made him scream.
His hands quickly went to his gun.
"Yize! Don't do it! It's a trap!" Kang Yimo was quick to judge, signaling her partner to run away with her.
"This is part of the kidnapper's plot! He wants us to kill these people!"
The male police agent gritted his teeth in rage.
'How can one be so...'
Looking around, he saw some of the police officers they brought being ambushed by these men in black masks.
He screamed in a fit of rage.
"Ahhh! I will kill you!"
Although she felt thrice the rage, Kang Yimo had to keep it cool, as she ran past the park.
Her senses were on alert, and she tried her best to dodge all the surprise attacks coming at her, although most of them got to her.
As a police agent, she had to protect the people, and she knew she had to endure.
This was only a phase; it would pass.
Her eyes became watery at the sight of these people in black masks causing havoc in the park.
...it was one of the best romantic spots in the city, but now that seemed like a fairy tale.
Although they were being chased, the police agents knew where they were headed to, and as they got closer, the slower they became, and the more people assaulted them.
Kang Yimo had a deep mark on her back that showed her bones, and blood was streaming out of it. She had lost the use of her right hand thanks to the person continuously hitting her with a bat.
Thack—!
Someone stabbed her in the thigh with a knife, and she almost collapsed, but Min Yize was quick to rescue her.
She looked at him and felt her heart sting.
"Your head is bleeding! You need immediate medical treatment!"
Min Yize just smiled.
"Talk about yourself."
The two struggled to run, but Kang Yimo was dragging her partner down, and soon both of them were being assaulted.
Bam, bam, bam—!
The two faced fierce attacks, and their human bodies couldn't endure it all, and both fell to the ground.
That only made it worse, as they got hit even more. Their bones were broken, muscles were torn, and blood came from every part of their tattered suits.
Whoosh—!
Someone swung an axe and chopped off Kang Yimo's legs, finally making her scream in pain,
"Ahhhhhh!"
Min Yize saw this and felt like someone had taken his heart from his chest, tears of blood came from his eyes.
"I am sorry, boss!"
His hands got hold of his pistol and didn't hesitate to pull the trigger.
Bang—!
Thud—!
One of the men in a black mask was hit in the chest and fell to the ground, letting out one last mutter.
"Weren't... you supposed to not kill us... That's what the... ad said."
"Is he dead?"
"Can you survive after being shot in the heart?"
"No."
"These people are murderous!"
"Not only did they ask us to destroy the bus stop, and the park, they didn't even give us the 30 million they promised!"
The men in black masks conversed among themselves, they now felt wary of the people laying on the ground. No one likes to get shot, after all!
Min Yize still had the gun in his grip and pointed it at the sky, letting out a warning shot, and the group immediately ran away.
"Hey! Didn't the ad say there was nothing in their guns!"
"Shut up and run! These people are going to kill us!"
"Can't we take them to court?!"
"Court?! After what we have done?!"
These people were mainly residents of squatter camps around Acoustic City... and they were all directed here by Mickey.
He knew the police would attack him the moment he got hold of the ransom money.
To complete his goal, he made posters both online and physical and sent them to the shanty town residents.
[Thirty million spirit coins are going to be in a bag in one of these two places: at the bus stop on Banana Street, and a bench in Citric Park.]
[To find this bag, you have to destroy the infrastructure at these places. I have put people to disguise as police agents. Beat them up, and get all the money in their wallets. Don't worry; they might fight back but won't kill you.]
[If you don't believe me, check out the gift boxes on the way to the bus stop at Banana Street.]
[Only those wearing black masks are allowed to participate.]
No one would believe such a scam, but Mickey had taken all the spirit coins Mi Shi had at her place, and what Mo Bing had in his wallet, and prepared gift boxes.
He picked a delivery box and posted online, showing his shock. Someone else also picked a delivery box and he posted it.
People came, and he made sure to post those who got the delivery boxes. In the end, greed got to these people and they fell for his trap.
He would wait for the police's attention to be diverted from the ransom and use his Qi to move the essence coins into his Primeval world.
During this time, he temporarily shut down the internet and blocked all calls; it was only for fifteen minutes, but that was plenty.
He made sure to keep the people he brought motivated by throwing gift boxes here and there.
This was as easy as stealing candy from a baby...
Humans die for wealth.
