The DHA Entrance Exam (4)

Some of the exam candidates were fairing pretty well against the demonic beasts, while a lot were having trouble in dealing with them. The annoying part of the situation was that they weren't given the time limit for the exam. They were basically in a blindsided situation.

There were a lot of things happening in the island. On one part of the island, a beast rumbling was taking place; on another part of the island, a demonic beast massacre was been caused by of one exam candidate. Further away, in a lesser dense area that was quite close to a cliff, two exam candidates were battling it out against a horde of demonic beast.

******

Carl's super crazy idea was really crazy, and a single slip up could very much end his life. Ray was confused when he saw Carl charging head on towards the horde of demonic beast; He couldn't tell if Carl did that out of bravery or pure stupidity. But one thing was certain; Carl had a serious look on his face, which means he had a trick up his sleeve.

"I really hope that's the case." Ray said as he shot down any beast that tried to attack Carl.

Using his Kusarigama chained daggers, Carl slashed down the demonic beasts in front of him; he had a clear objective in mind, as he continued on a straight line path to a very large bird looking demonic beast, which was in the middle of the horde.

As Carl drew closer and closer to the bird looking demonic beast, he readied his weapon. When he was close enough to the bird beast, Carl mustered all the strength he could gather in his legs and jumped forward, thus landing on top of the bird beast.

The bird beast started to move its body violently, in an attempt to shake Carl off. Carl grabbed the feathers of the bird beast and held on tight; he gave a cut on the bird beast, thereby weakening the beast and stopping it from shaking so violently.

Carl got on a sitting position on the bird beast's back and instantly used his daggers to cut in deeper. The bird beast opened its beak and gave out a shrieking cry; this was the opportunity Carl had been waiting for. Using the chains of his Kusarigama, Carl quickly tried to restrain the beast by putting the chain into the opened beak of the bird beast, and using it as a sort of rein.

The beast started to fly in a violent manner, while slamming its body on trees, in a desperate attempt to shake Carl off.

"Stop shaking, you damn bird!" Carl said as he held on to his chain reins really tight and cut the bird beast a few more times, weakening it more. He then used the chain rein as a stirring to direct the bird beast.

"Hey!! Ray, come on let's get out of here; I don't think we have much time."

So far, Ray had been shooting at demonic beast horde, killing multiple beasts; however because of this, he was down to just 10 arrows in his quiver.

Ray looked up and saw Carl sitting on top of the now flying demonic bird beast. And from the looks of it, Carl had been able to achieve a very little control over the beast.

"Don't just stand there, come on let's go." Carl urged on.

"This doesn't look safe." Ray said as he joined Carl at the back of the demonic bird beast.

"It isn't; so hang on tight because this is going to be a really bumpy ride."

With that, Carl kicked the bird beast by the side, causing the beast to fly up in the air, while also shaking its massive body violently. Carl once again weakened the beast with his dagger, and stirred it towards the direction of the green beacon.

Controlling the demonic bird beast was far from easy. Carl had to pull with all his might, whenever he wanted to stir or direct the beast. The beast also attempted to throw them off several times; at first, the bird beast was just shaking its body violently. Later on, it started diving down and Carl had to pull up with as much strength as he could muster.

The only advantage of pitching a ride on the bird beast was that they were now flying really fast towards the green beacon; and they also didn't have to worry about a beast attack.

"What do you think is going on down there?" Ray asked, while pointing to an area, where trees fell down simultaneously.

"I don't know; to be honest, I don't even want to know. But something tells me that the readers would like to know what's going on down there." Carl replied.

"What readers? What are you talking about?"

"Never mind, let's just check it out."

They dived down a little bit, so as to get a good look at the scenery. Carl managed to get the bird beast to hover just above the trees; Ray looked down a little closer and that's when he saw what caused the destruction of the trees.

Down on the ground, two exam candidates where been chased by multiple squirrel looking beasts, that were both large and robust.

*******

A while back the squirrel looking beast, had undergone its shocking transformation, and gave out an ear piercing cry.

"What is it doing?!" Kelvin asked, as he saw trees falling in the distance.

"It's calling for back up." Nao replied.

Multiple large muscular squirrel beasts entered the scene, confirming Nao's words. They began to run on all fours towards Kelvin and Nao, destroying everything on their way.

"Shit!! We have to run."

They ran back the way they came, so as to create a distance between themselves and the multiple squirrel beasts. Nao tried to shoot them, but their skin and muscles where so robust, that her bullets basically just bounced off.

The large squirrel beasts, where gradually getting closer to Kelvin and Nao. This shouldn't come as a surprise, because the squirrel beasts had a very strong set of hind legs, which was good for not just kicking but for running as well. While most of the squirrel beasts where simply running on all fours, a few number of them were gliding using a thin layer of flesh that connected their forelegs and hind legs.

It was just a matter of time, before the squirrel beasts, caught up to them. Kelvin glanced behind him and was desperately pondering on whether to use his powers to get them out of this tricky situation or not.

'I can't use my powers here because I will be exposed; but if I don't, we are definitely going to get flattened.' Kelvin thought to himself. He was conflicted, because he was running out of options.

While he was in the middle of his thought, a huge shadow cast over them.

"Ken!!! Over here!!"

Hearing his fake name, Kelvin snapped back to reality and looked up, only to see Carl and Ray sitting on a large bird like demonic beast.

"Carl!! You're alive!" Kelvin shouted.

"Of course I'm alive, now grab on to Ray's hand I don't know how long I can control this beast."

Kelvin looked at the height between the ground and the bird and it was still a little bit high. So he asked:

"Can't you fly a little lower to the ground?!"

"If I bring the beast any lower than this, it will increase the chance of me losing control over it! So just hurry up!!"

Kelvin saw Ray's outstretched hand, and further increased his speed; once he was close enough, he lunched forwards with as much strength as he could muster on his feet; because of that, he was able to gain enough height to grab onto Ray's arm.

Ray immediately pulled Kelvin up. Now that Kelvin was on top of the bird, he looked down, and saw that the beasts were really close to Nao, and that she was in troubled of getting smashed.

"Ray, can you distract the beasts by shooting at them?" Kelvin asked.

"I only have a couple of arrows left, so I won't be able to distract them for long." Ray said as he got to work on shooting the squirrel beast.

"That's good enough." Kelvin said, as he stretched out his hand.

"Hey!! Nao, you have to jump!!! Just put a little pressure on your legs and…"

"I know how to jump you moron!!!" Nao shouted, thus cutting him off.

"Then what are you waiting for!!"

Although Nao was harsh sometimes, and had a little bit of a trust issue, she knew she was in a very dire situation and would jump at any chance she could get. So she increased her pace and jumped, with hope that Kelvin or rather Ken, will be able to grab her.

Kelvin was able to reach out in time and caught her by the hand; he pulled her up and said:

"Carl, get us out of here"

With that, Carl pulled up with all his might, in order to get the bird beast up in the air again. The bird beast noticed the additional load, and instantly tried to get rid of it; luckily, Carl suspected something like this could happen, and once again weakened the beast. He was trying as much as possible, not to weaken the beast so much, because they still needed the beast to have some strength for flying.

Carl stirred the bird beast in the direction of the green beacon and altogether, they proceeded to the location.
