"Come down, everyone, it's dinner time already," Yorichi called out while serving food at the table. "Ishida hasn't returned home yet. How many times have I told him not to be out this late..." she thought.
"Mom, Ishida hasn't returned yet. Should I go and bring him home?" Ichiro, the older son of Yorichi, asked while walking down the stairs.
"Yes..." Before she could finish, the main door of the house was pushed open by someone.
"I'm home, did you guys wait for me?" Ishida asked as he walked inside.
"I've told you so many times not to be outside so late..." Yorichi said, holding one of Ishida's ears.
"It hurts, I won't do it again... Promise," Ishida said as Yorichi let go of him. "But what's the problem with being outside? I didn't even go that far. It's not like a demon's gonna eat me or something," Ishida said.
"You stupid boy, how many times have I told you not to say things like that?" Yorichi said.
"Yeah, that's true," said Yuzu, who came out of the kitchen with some more food bowls in hand. "Even demons don't eat stupid idiots like you; that would make them sick," she said as she put the bowls on the table.
"What's that again!? I can't hear you, can you speak any louder?" Ishida said.
After this, everyone took their places at the dinner table. Ishida went up to his bedroom, freshened up, and sat at the table last.
As everyone settled around the dinner table, the clinking of dishes and the aroma of the food filled the room. Yorichi served the last plate, her earlier frustration now replaced with a warm smile.
"Ishida, you need to start being more responsible," Yorichi began, her tone gentle but firm. "One day, you'll have to look after more than just yourself."
"Yeah, yeah, I get it," Ishida mumbled, shoveling rice into his mouth. "But seriously, Mom, I was just at the edge of the forest. It's not like anything could happen."
Ichiro, the older brother, glanced at Ishida with a mix of concern and curiosity. "The forest edge? You know that's where the moonlight barely reaches. It's always so eerie there."
"Yeah, it's kind of creepy," Yuzu chimed in, her eyes wide with a hint of fear. "But also... strangely beautiful."
Ishida smirked, "That's why I like it. There's something calming about it, almost like the moonlight is watching over me."
Yorichi gave a small, bittersweet smile. "You've always been drawn to the night, Ishida. Even as a baby, you'd stop crying the moment you saw the moon."
"Maybe I'm just a night owl," Ishida joked, but there was a faint glimmer in his eyes.
Ichiro leaned in, his voice low and serious. "You know, they say the moonlight has a way of revealing things hidden in the dark. It shows the true nature of things... and people."
"Whatever," Ishida shrugged, though he couldn't shake off the feeling that Ichiro's words carried more weight than usual.
Yuzu nodded thoughtfully. "It's like those stories Grandma used to tell us. Remember? About how the moon would guide lost souls?"
"Yeah," Ishida replied, his tone softer. "I remember."
Yorichi placed a hand on Ishida's shoulder. "Just promise me you'll be careful, Ishida. The world is full of darkness, but the moon can be your guide if you let it."
"I promise, Mom," Ishida said, his voice uncharacteristically solemn. "I'll always find my way back home."
