Festering Desire

It was now the next day and I was now cooking breakfast. I woke up early again. Mona was sleeping loudly snoring and making weird moaning sounds from time to time. That was ni- I mean annoying. Yeah, definitely annoying.

After I finished cooking breakfast, I walked slowly to Mona and sat beside her. Instead of doing what I did with Amber, I made a small breeze using Anemo and blew it to Mona's ear.

"Nyahh! W-what was that for?!" she yelled. Luckily, she didn't hit her head. That would have been catastrophic.

"I cooked breakfast already so stand up."

"You could have just woke me up normally y'know?" she said with a hint of annoyance. I guess I should have done that.

"Although, this is fine as well…" she added in a voice so low I could barely hear it. That made me happy in some unknown way. Could it be l- No. No, there's just no way… right? I mean, I only met her, and it's too ridiculous to believe that I fell for her just by seeing her. Although I know love at first sight is a thing, I believe that you should get to know a person more before falling for them… Argh! I should stop thinking about this for now. I'll save it for later.

We ate breakfast together and she went to take a bath first. I hope she doesn't take long…

A few minutes later, it was finally my turn to take a bath. Mona had a storage ring as well. Man, there are a lot of things that I need to buy to fit into this world. When I came out of the bathroom, Mona was already ready to go to school.

We walked to school together and for some reason, Mona was walking normally without that smug. What happened?

"What is it?"

She noticed me staring at her so she asked me. I shook my head and just told her it was nothing. A phone then rang and she stopped in place. She took her phone out and answered the call.

"Hm? Yeah, I'm on my way to school. Oh right, I'm going there now." She put her phone down and looked at me with an apologetic look.

"I'm sorry, but could you go on ahead? I need to pick up my stuff from my friend."

Oh right, she did tell me yesterday that she called her friend for that. I nodded and with that, she left in a hurry. I wasn't feeling lonely since I had both the Hydro slime and Paimon with me. I should name the slime shouldn't I? Alright, let's see here. Bob the slime? Yeah, let's just go with that. A simple and short name. I would have liked to name it something like Chunchunmaru.

I walked while Bob was sitting on my head. It was quite comfortable. While walking I could hear distant screaming just ways away from here. I hurriedly ran over there while also being careful of not making Bob fall.

"A Pyro Abyss mage!" yelled a girl that passed me by.

It was a little floating creature wearing a dark orange robe with a mask and a staff in its hand. It had something like an orange barrier surrounding it. The arrows being shot at it are being burnt to a crisp as soon as it touches the barrier. A pyro shield then. Based on what happened the other day and just basic knowledge, Pyro is weak to Hydro.

I let out my sword and started to think of how I could use Hydro on it. As I was thinking that, Bob wrapped himself to the blade and imbued it with the Hydro element. Well, I guess this works.

I dashed to the mage and barely dodged some of its attacks. Some of the attacks were fast while some were slow, but all of them were really freaking hot. I kept on dodging both by air and by land. I wasn't making any progress. The mage just wouldn't let me close. I just need to be faster.

I dashed as quick as I could while trying to imbue my whole body with Anemo to try and make myself light. However, what happened was way beyond my expectations. I turned into wind and was suddenly behind the mage. I was shocked, but this was my chance!

I slashed my new slimed blade and hit the Pyro shield. The instant my sword hit the shield, steam came blowing out. The mage tried to hit me, but I just disappeared again and hit the shield once more. I kept repeating this process until finally, the shield shattered.

The mage fell to the ground with a thump. I imbued my blade with Anemo and it swirled with the Hydro. I swung my sword at the mage and it turned to ashes.

"I've never seen someone use two elements at once. Let alone without a vision."

A voice came from behind me. I looked back to see who it was and it was a young man with bright teal eyes and ashy light blonde hair. He had pale skin and his irises had three dots. He was wearing our school uniform.

"Teaming up with a slime as well. I gotta say, if I was here just a bit earlier, I wouldn't have seen such wonders." he said in a slightly deadpan voice.

"Um, you go to Teyat High right?"

"Hm? Do you go there as well?"

Oh right, I didn't have my uniform yet. No wonder he didn't ask me first. I nodded and told him that I was the new transferee.

After a bit he suggested that we walk together. I was going to decline and help the people here, but he said that the Knights of Favonous will take care of it. I sighed and agreed to his suggestion.

"By the way, what's your name? I'm Aether," I said as I held out my hand.

"I'm Albedo." he said as he shook my hand. It was kinda soft due to the fact that he was wearing gloves. We talked while we walked and then, he said something that caught me off guard.

"You're not from this world, are you?"

"...I'm not."

He smirked as if he suddenly got an idea. He dragged me to an empty alleyway and held out his hand. A sword came out and instead of holding it, it just floated there. It was a dark purple sword with pink lining and some sort of eye in the middle of the hilt.

"This is called the Festering Desire. A sword made out of the corpse of Durin, the dragon that was defeated by the combined forces of Barbatos and Dvalin. A sword that curses this world. Due to that reason, no can wield it. If they do, they will go mad."

Um, why is he telling me all of this? Or rather, that sword sounds like it's cursed.

"...I would want you to take this sword. It will grow stronger with you as well."

"Um, okay." I said as I slowly held the sword. I could feel power surging within it, but overall it feels normal.

"I was right. You were immune to the curse."

Ooh, I guess that makes sense. I am not from this world after all. I swung a few times just to get a feel for it. Oh wait. Can Bob still imbue himself to this sword? Better not risk it for now. I stored the sword away and we continued on walking.

When we arrived at school, Mona was already there waiting at the gate. She looked annoyed.

"What took you so long? When I got to the classroom, you weren't there…"

Ah… That fight did take long. I guess I should have just used Swirl… Mona scolded me for a few minutes before finally calming down. I sighed and said my farewells to Albedo and headed to our classroom with Mona.

When we arrived, everyone was already there. Including Noelle and our teacher. I walked over to Noelle and spoke.

"Hey, are you okay now?"

"Yes. Thank you for your help yesterday," she said with a smile.

"No problem. Ask me for help anytime,"

I took my seat and slouched back. Fuha, my whole body hurts. That fight was something. I looked at the bottle beside me and saw the face of Bob. Albedo suggested this since some of the students might kill him. He told me to be especially careful of a girl named Xiangling.

The day went on normally… at least before dismissal.
