"It's real. And it feels so great. It has been a while since I held jewelry of such high quality. Usually persons try to pass off poorly crafted jewelry, aiming for higher prices but this, this is the real thing. It looks rare if I may say so myself. I have never seen this kind of craftsmanship either. Did you buy it from another country? No Jewlery in this area is made in such a fashion."
"It is really old. Like I said it was passed down through my family with all the other jewelry. I just chose to wear this one today. How much will it be exchanged for?"
The bell chimed as another customer walked in. He was slightly shorter than me and fairly good looking but once again I could not smell any pheromones. He noticed the chain and his eyes lit up as he walked over.
"Oh my gosh! Who's is it!? That is such a rare beauty. Looking at it I can tell it is real. Oh wow. Can I please see it?"
What's with his energy. Does he not realize it is the afternoon and no one else has that much energy. Damn. He looked around the same age as me and I didn't see a problem in letting him sate his curiosity a bit.
Collecting the chain from the jeweler who looked reluctant to let it go, I handed it to the golden retriever. Golden retriever? Where did that come from. I need sleep. I tuned out the guy's rambling and gushing of praise at the chain and let him be for a few minutes before collecting it back and resuming what I came here for originally.
"So how much will this exchange for?"
The boy looked sad when he heard what I said but it immediately changed to shock after the jeweler responded.
"$60 000"
I did not know about this currency and how it worked so I was going to just take his word for it. I just need the money for tonight anyway and the chain isn't important so it doesn't matter. As I was about to respond the boy burst out in a rant.
"$60 000! Really. Are you trying to rob him so obviously. There is no way that this piece only goes for $60 000. Not only is this an antique but it is also solid, high quality and one of a kind. Do you really think it is worth such a meager amount. What is wrong with you. Is it so plainly that you rob tourists? I have been fascinated by jewelry since forever and my entire life so far was spent learning about them. This piece would be no less than $250 000 and I know other pawn shops that would pay way more than that to get their hands on this. You better pay up or we're going to go down the street to uncle Cas. He would give a much better deal."
I looked at this person in a new light. Is he being serious? If he was, I will not take such blatant disrespect. Glancing at the store owner I saw that he looked abashed. I am not dealing here and I will see to it that he closes down. I don't need robbers to be running a business. I asked the stranger for his name, which he told me was Eliza. That's actually a great name.
"So Eliza, where is the other pawn shop you were talking about earlier?"
He led me to it and we had a wonderful conversation on the way. Turns out he knows quite a lot about jewelry.
The new jeweler offered me $300 000 for the chain which Eliza was okay with so I made the deal. After talking a bit more, he gave me his number on a paper after me trying to explain that I don't have the small, weird device. He said if I ever buy one to message him, so I kept his number since he was fun to hang around with.
