DEATH'S OWN

Born with an unusual birthmark, the shape of a skeleton’s head with rose patterns round about it on her neck, many believed she would only bring bad luck to those around her. This belief was solidified when two of her suitors died unexpectedly right after a visit to her home. Such a thing should come as a bother to any woman but the same could not be said about Nyx. She didn't care if the beliefs about her were true or false. She never liked any of her suitors. Her heart had always been longing for a certain man whom she was very familiar with in her childhood but ceased to appear before her the moment she entered adolescence. Since she knew him one thing was very certain about him, he was not human since he never aged. Not even once. Believing he would one day come again, Nyx was prepared to wait until the day they would meet again. But not everything goes as planned. Having a sickly mother whose only wish was to see her daughter get married and an influential suitor who didn't mind the deaths around her, Nyx soon found herself married off and her mother passed away leaving a father who dreaded her existence and a husband she never loved. **** From a distance he watched her grow, keeping his distance from her, staying within the shadows. As she aged slowly into adulthood, the mark on her neck became more prominent and so was her scent. He wanted her to grow, but when she finally came of age, he thought she would be better without him. But as time wore on and other men began to show interest in her, he could not hold back nor could he let them have her. He discarded those who had an interest in her but one of them slipped through his fingers while he was away and took her. He waited to see if she was happy with her life, with that man, if she was, then he would let her be. She would be able to live a happy life this time unlike the previous one, but everything changed when the forces from the underworld learned of her existence and her connection with him. Her husband was killed which he permitted and her life was in constant danger. Keeping the distance was no longer an option and he once again appeared before her.

Skye looked at him as if he were a madman, but then his curiosity was piqued as he wondered what kind of story this devil had to tell.

Noticing the curiosity in Skye's eyes, he grinned. "If you want to hear it, you could at least say that you do rather just staring at me like that, it creeps me out," he said in an unnecessarily dramatic way. He sighed when Skye looked away without uttering a word to him. "I will tell you, but you'll have to wait. There's someone else who would like to hear it, too. After all, it is about his daughter."

Skye frowned when he heard that. Could it be about Nyx? If so then did that mean that Mr Anders knew this devil as well? He couldn't believe it, but he also couldn't doubt it because of the glaring possibility. Just how many more people did this man have wrapped around his finger? At least now he knew that he was a devil thanks to Nyx revealing that to him. But then…how did she know?

The door to the room opened, and Mr Anders was seen standing at the door, his eyes scanning the room looking for someone, but he paused when he saw the man seated on Nyx's bed. A crease formed on his forehead. He then looked at Skye, who looked as though he didn't care who was seated there, or perhaps he couldn't see him.

"Right on time, Rogers. I was just about to tell a story." the man uttered and pointed to an empty seat for him to sit on. "Now shall we begin or would you…." He stopped and grinned when he was interrupted by Rogers.

"What are you doing here?" He asked. His voice was stern, and the anger that he felt was evident in his eyes as well as his voice. Mr. Anders could not believe that this man was in Nyx's room while she was nowhere in sight. With the way the other man left his room before, he knew something was going on, but meeting this man here was far out of his thoughts.

"To check on my friends, of course. I thought you wanted to see me. Am I wrong? Do you hate me so much?" He said feigning hurt. But he received glares from the two men inside the room with him.

"Where is Nyx?" Mr Anders asked. She had to be okay, he couldn't see her anywhere, so it meant that she was not hurt but this man. He turned to Skye when no one answered, and he couldn't bank on receiving a reply from the man on the bed.

"Father, please calm down. Nyx is alright. She is not here at the moment," Skye stood up and walked over to him. "She was taken away before he got here," he added just to put him at ease.

Mr Anders let out a sigh of relief and allowed Skye to lead him to a seat. Once seated, they looked at him silently, demanding an explanation as to why he was present there. Rogers opened his mouth to speak, but he was beaten to it.

"Do you still remember what I told you before?" The man asked, and Rogers' frown deepened. "You still remember I see," he uttered with a nod after assessing the expression on Roger's face. "You have started doubting what I told you and wondering if she was indeed your daughter. Well, I'll tell you this, she is not. In fact, she is a reincated woman from another reality." He stopped and watched their expressions and as expected they were priceless.

Meanwhile, Nyx looked around the place she was brought to. It looked familiar but she had never been there before. It also surprised her that she didn't find what she saw there as weird or anything like that. From what she could deduce, it was an underground cave that reeked of pure darkness. Being in there would make anyone's skills crawl but she felt no such thing.

On the table, there she could see an hourglass which looked so familiar to her as if it had once been hers. She had known Reaper for a long time but she knew he had never brought her here before. She tilted her head to look at the man standing behind her and still refusing to release her from his hold.

"Why is everything here so familiar?" She asked but he just stared into her eyes without uttering a word. "Will you answer me or not? Where is this place and why is it so familiar?" She repeated but instead of answering her, he spun her around and enveloped her in an embrace that came as a surprise to Nyx. Having no other choice. She also wrapped her hands around him. She felt her heart ache for him and she could not resist patting gently on his back.

"How much do you remember?" Reaper asked after breaking the embrace. He took a few strands of her hair to his nose and breathed in her scent. It was just as he had always remembered. He had never thought that he would ever miss anyone until he met her and then lost her. Never had he thought that he could curb his desire until she came into his life and even after she was gone, he was still unable to have another and now that she was back here, he doubted he could keep his promise to keep his distance as long as she chose to stay married. It was almost impossible even for him.

"Is there something that I am suppose to remember?" Nyx asked, failing to understand what she was missing. He smiled and cupped her face, caressed her cheek and then leaned forward and pressed his lips on hers and they were as soft as ever and as delicious as always. Nyx closed her eyes and allowed him. Her body wanted him and his touch, just like everything else, felt so familiar and she knew it went beyond just spending time with him as a child or teenager.

"You have been here before," he replied, his eyes moved to look at the hourglass on the table in the middle of the cave. "In another existence. Your previous existence," he said and Nyx blinked. She didn't know what to say. He was not a lier so he could not be kidding with her.
