SHADOW OF DECEPTION

Chapter 30

"I'm sorry, he's gone," the doctor broke the news and tried to retire to his office.

The man lay silent, his eyes shut, and his lifeless body covered with a blue sheet. Only his face remained visible. McCarthy watched his face and grew angry.

"What caused his death?! You couldn't just let a wounded man perish! This is your responsibility, doctor!" McCarthy raised his voice to stop him, still holding Olivia's hand.

"It's not my fault, please. The wounds alone couldn't have killed him. This is very perplexing," the doctor defended and left.

McCarthy's mother turned to look at Olivia, then Gerald, and finally McCarthy himself. Then, she released Olivia's hand and confronted her.

"Did you do this because you feel guilty?" Her cold voice pierced through the lady's mind.

"Not here," Gerald suggested, his left arm still bound to his neck.
