"...and I assure you all that there is no danger to any denizens of Hogwarts." Dumbledore kept talking and talking, trying to keep the student body calm about the last night's incident; which they were calling the 'Night Sun Incident'. Fucking weebs. "It is also with great sadness that I announce that professor Quirrel has decided to leave his post due to family related reasons and will no longer be a part of the faculty." That was a nice way of covering up that one of his teachers had been possessed by a dark lord and would have caused bodily harm to several students if it hadn't been for his little 'accident' that led to him summoning a fucking demon.
Not that any of the students will know that, as they shouldn't. It did made me feel a bit amused with the fact that I had gotten away with murdering a teacher, was this how Harry of original story felt at the end of his first year?
"But have no worries. In order to make sure that your education won't be hindered till we find a suitable replacement for professor Quirrel, I will be taking up the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor for the time being." There was a moment of silence in the hall before it was replaced by roars and shouts of glee at the news. Had to admit, even I was surprised.
I wasn't sure what exactly I had been expecting them to do. Maybe calling some random Auror or even leave the post open for the rest of the year. But having Dumbledore taking up the position?
This was interesting.

"I still do not like this Albus." Minerva said with a frown as they entered his office. "I know what you told me Quirrel was trying to do but this is the earliest that we have lost a defense professor throughout history of the curse."
The curse of the defense position, it was considered to be a joke among the students due to the rapid change of the professors of said subject throughout the years but Albus and his close confidants all knew that curse was real. He still had no idea how exactly Tom had managed to curse the position in such a way that none of them had been able to find the cause and to be perfectly honest, much to his shame, Dumbledore hadn't cared about the curse much for the last few years.
The curse may have had taken many professors, due to wider assortment of reasons, throughout the years but the worst had been during the first decade after the Dark Lord put the curse; they had lost twelve professors in twelve years. But then the curse had, for a lack of better term, mellowed out and seemingly got weaker. He actually had started to think that the curse had finally ran out of power when professor Hooper, the one who held the position before Quirrel, kept the position for three years. Then the man had a rather unfortunate accident involving a wampus cat that took Dumbledore's hope away, along with Hooper's legs.
"It does not matter, I won't be the actual owner of the position since I still am the headmaster so I should be safe until we can find someone of sufficient ability to actually take the post." He waved Minerva's concerns away before his expression became more serious. "What happened last night is far more important."
"One of our faculty member summoning a demon and a huge blast of light somehow making that demon disappear is important, say it isn't so." Severus said sarcastically with a roll of his eyes.
"I was actually thinking more along the lines of our suspicions about Quirrel having been possessed by the Dark Lord but you're right too." Albus admitted with a sigh. "The fact that this happened the year Violet started her education in Hogwarts makes this even more complicated."
"No it doesn't. It makes what we need to do clear." Severus said with a glare. "Get the healers to claim that Black's mental health is as good as it can be and then use all the resources of Black family to create someplace safe for her."
"Sirius' mental health might need more time to properly recover. Getting him out of Saint Mungo's so soon might not help his mental state."
"That's a sacrifice I'm willing to make." Severus said with a cold glare. "I got a message from Lupin this morning, he'll be at Hogsmeade tomorrow and wants to meet us. That should be helpful."
"It is. If we're lucky I might even be able to convince Remus to come back and have him keep Violet company in the winter break."
"Don't leave it to luck." Severus interrupted him with a growl. "Just agree to anything he wants and make sure that he is around Violet. He just might be what we need to actually keep her safe." A haunted look then appeared in the potion professor's eyes. "You know what kind of demons dwell outside of our society Albus, and Lupin seemed to have jumped headfirst into that world in these past ten years. We can't afford to alienate him." He whispered out the last part and Albus could see that the last night was having a heavy effect on the man.
It wasn't surprising. The man would never admit to such weakness but Severus Snape was deathly afraid of demons and the darker sides of arcane that was kept hidden from their society. The thought of that darkness being so near must have been terrifying, terrifying enough that he was seemingly willing to throw away his grudge against the Marauders if it meant that Violet could have a better defense against such things.
Dumbledore understood that. After all, it was that darkness Severus had witnessed that led to him coming to Dumbledore and becoming his spy in the middle of their war against Voldemort.
