As for controlling the Totem, they had their own methods. They knew that the power of the Totem would grow with Faith Power. A newly born Totem would gradually mature after absorbing enough power.
However, Faith Power could also influence the Totem in a similar manner. If a group could provide a Totem with enough Faith Power, they could harness this power to control the Totem in return.
After controlling the Totem during its infancy and continuously providing Faith Power, as the Totem matured, they could have the Totem select its followers in the Multiverse, and then control these followers through the Totem.
The plan seemed great, and its initial execution was very smooth. The Morlun family had a special talent, i.e., they could absorb the vitality of other creatures. This ability worked wonders on Spider-Man, but it could also be used on other creatures, including various Demon Gods.
They certainly didn't stand a chance against the Demon Gods of the Multiverse. But the members of the Morlun Family, who could freely move through the Multiverse, could lord over the native Demon Gods in the Individual Universe.
Especially the less powerful Demon Gods, or newly born ones. The Morlun Family could literally show up on their doorstep through the portals of the Multiverse and then swarm all over them. Using their talent to drain vitality, they could suck the Demon Gods dry.
If the Kree are called Cosmic Locusts because of their combat style, then the Morlun Family could be referred to as... Cosmic Mosquitoes.
Even though a single member couldn't absorb much power, as long as they had enough members, they could quickly drain the Demon Gods of their power and plunge them into decline, making them much easier to deal with.
Over the years, the Morlun Family had accumulated quite a bit of energy gathered this way. They could convert the energy within themselves into Faith Power through prayer, and then transfer this Faith Power to the Totem.
All the members of the Morlun family currently gathered in the hall were the more powerful ones. They could store more energy, making their prayers more effective.
Over the past period of time, they had channeled lots of energy into the Bat Totem through prayer. The golden glow was about to cover the entire bat. But then, Helen learnt the secret to stealing electricity, and a wave of theft turned all of the Morlun Family's previous efforts into vain.
Then came the equally ruthless Venom, who having already absorbed Nal's energy and tasted the sweetness, didn't hold back. Through various tug-of-war battles and psychological warfare, the members of the Morlun family willingly offered up the last bit of power within themselves.
Only then did the Morlun family realize that this was perhaps a trap.
To say that they were caught off guard wouldn't be correct. They had made their base extremely strong because most wars in the cosmos happened at the frontline. War amongst Cosmic Sorcerers was turn-based in its own way—I punch you, then you kick me. The Multiverse was the same.
Having witnessed such wars, the Morlun family naturally placed greater importance on hardware defenses. They could hardly imagine anyone daring to directly tap into the internet to steal electricity. And it wasn't just one person, but two waves of people, practically amounting to daylight robbery.
The only one barely standing in the hall was Solus, the Father of the Morlun family, who was at the main seat. He banged his Magic Wand on the ground hard and said, "Damn thieves! They're not only stealing our power but also the entire Totem! We can't let them get away with it!"
"Check immediately! Where has the Faith Power gone?" Solus said in a fit of rage. "We need to take back what is ours!"
The members of the Morlun family who had collapsed on the ground struggled to get up from the floor and staggered back to their positions.
During the final tussle with Venom, they squeezed out every bit of energy from their bodies to fight for the ownership of the Totem. By now, they were all drained.
However, work had to continue. They had sunk too many costs into this. They had first fought a war with the Bat Cults and lost about half of their members, and fully half of the survivors lost all their power. They didn't know how long it would take to accumulate enough energy to be at full power again.
If they couldn't recover all the Faith Power and the Totem in one go, they would truly be severely weakened.
The Morlun family, in this state, had no choice but to go all in. And once a gambler starts losing badly, expecting them to remain rational would be asking for too much.
Soon, the members of the Morlun family located the energy channel and found traces of energy transfer. Solus led the team and came directly to the culprit's universe through the portal of the Multiverse.
Just as they stepped out of the portal, they heard a loud explosion, followed by the sound of fighting and then a loud roar:
"The Ancient One! Are you going to interfere with the affairs of Asgard?!"
Then with a "bang", a planet was shattered. Solus quickly led his people to avoid the flying planet debris, only to hear a woman's calm voice:
"No matter what has happened, you shouldn't be fighting here. If you have something to say, talk it out. Gentlemen talk, they don't resort to violence..."
The Ancient One's voice echoed throughout the cosmos. After a while, a cold, evil-filled laugher came, and a demon's illusion appeared, surrounded by boundless flames. Mephisto said, "The Ancient One, you're still so fond of meddling..."
The Ancient One, who had just been talking about "gentlemen talk, they don't resort to violence", immediately swung her palm. Mephisto didn't back down and generated a sky full of flames, radiating formidable power. After a while, a voice full of vitality filled the air:
"Thor, Loki, stop fighting! You're disgracing Asgard!"
A raven circled the battlefield. Odin came with the lightning, followed by Frigga. The Queen of Gods gently persuaded, "Loki, you should bring little Helen back to Asgard for a few days. Both of you need to cool down..."
As for Solus and the members of the Morlun Family who had just arrived, they were dumbfounded. They couldn't understand why this Individual Universe was so lively. Still, Solus said, "Ignore them. They're just trapped beasts of the cosmos. Let's go find the energy landing spot..."
Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared in Solus's line of sight. He was muscular, extremely fast and wore a red and blue uniform—wasn't this the Spider-Man of this universe?
But at this moment, Spider-Man's actions seemed a bit strange. He held a strange energy core in his hand, which was still emitting a magical glow. Even from a distance, Solus could feel the strong magical energy on it.
Then he heard Spider-Man shouting, "Mr. Stark! Your supplementary energy. Remember, the essence of magic is... making your wishes come true!"
The energy core flew onto a figure in the battlefield. Instantly, a huge shadow enveloped the entire cosmos.
Solus stared upwards stiffly. He saw a pair of enormous eyes in the cosmos, made of steel, staring back at him.
