Chapter 1: The Royal Capital

A/N: I've said it in my synopsis, but just to make it clear: This FF is for fun. Don't expect me to be serious about update schedules and make empty promises. I started this because I felt like writing a Black Clover FF, but I'm not a professional writer of any sort. This is purely for fun and I can drop this at any time, but motivation also matters so I may be really motivated and actually finish this, or I may just get de-motivated and never write a chapter on this again.

After all, I AM Casual07, it's in my name: I'm just a casual dude.

The Royal Capital, the city at the heart of the Clover Kingdom which is placed atop the tallest mountain within the kingdom, is the designated place of where the Magic Knights Exam are held annually.

On the bustling streets of the Capital, multiple vendors consisting of mainly middle-aged men attempted to sell fish, fruits, and a variety of other items. Dozens and dozens of families walked around spending time with one another and growing ever so close.

However, in one part of the city, a tall figure wearing clothes deemed 'odd' to the other Clover citizens could be seen casually walking through the streets, ignoring the constant stares he'd receive from every person he'd walk by.

The tall boy had long, messy black hair tied up with a pair of red earrings, one on either ear. He wore a black robe tightened with a red sash which complimented his aesthetic. He also had dazzling amber eyes. Additionally, another reason for the stares, his hip was occupied by a scabbard which had a sword sheathed within it. [Image]

"Ooo, how much does that cost?" The boy asked, bending down slightly as he pointed at a juicy looking watermelon.

"150." The vendor said sternly, sounding and looking as if he had been going through a rough day as he tapped his finger against his arm whilst looking up at the boy with a scowl on his wrinkled face.

"Man~... for real? 150?" The boy sighed in response, straightening his posture back to normal as he crossed his arms in front of his chest, "Isn't that a bit much for a watermelon? The one over there is only 60" He said, pointing in the direction of a previous stall he had gone too.

"Then go and get that one, dumbass!" The vendor replied, raising his voice a little in anger as a forehead vein began to pop.

"Alright alright, I'm going, relax" The boy exhaled in exhaustion as he walked away from the man's food stall, "Old people these days" He mumbled.

"Young brats these days" The old man vendor muttered as he looked at the boy's back shrink smaller and smaller the further he walked away, "No respect for their elders" He hissed as he watched a big group of teenagers walk through and occupy the middle of the street rudely, "Or others" He kissed his teeth as he watched the teenagers push away anyone 'in their way' whilst blatantly leaving little to no room for others to walk.

A few minutes later, the black-haired boy had finished his shopping. He had a few bags in his left hand, as he left his right hand freely rest in the inside of his robe.

'I should go back to my room now' The boy decided with a small smile, walking in the direction of the hotel he stayed in for the past few days, 'Need to get my well-deserved rest if I wanna do good in the Magic Knights Exam tomorrow - though, I'm sure I'll be fine' He thought cockily with a smug smirk on his face.

With a few corners left until he arrived back at his room, the boy walked through a quiet alley known as the 'shortcut' to the place.

"-ahAHAHA!" The sound of loud laughter entered the boy's ears as he looked ahead to see a big group of teenagers laughing whilst pushing each other and throwing drinks and foods at either each other or random, clueless people.

"Haa..." With a sigh, the boy decided to quietly bypass them with his bags still in hand. The teenagers appeared to still haven't noticed him as their laughter grew louder and louder.

Unfortunately... *Bump!*

"...My bad" The boy spoke up as he pat part of his robe where one of the teenager's bumped into him accidentally, he presumed.

"Oi, watch where you're going" The teenage boy which bumped into him, he had short blonde hair and an 'intimidating' look to him as he had a few muscles on his body and a small scar on his face - he had the typical 'delinquent' look.

"..." The blonde boy looked the black-haired boy up and down, before snickering and breaking into a laughter, "Pff-HAHAHA!" Some of his spit from his laughter landed on the boy's robe, causing him to scoff before wiping it away with a frown.

Following the blonde's action, his hooligan buddies joined in the laughter as they pointed at the black haired boy, much to his confusion and anger.

"What are you laughi-" He was about to question their reasoning for laughing, until he got cut off by the blondie.

"I didn't know it was Halloween already!" He joked, wiping away the tears in his eyes, "Jesus, you really shouldn't be playing with knives, boy, whether they're real or not!" He added while patting the black haired boy's shoulder, stretching out his arm fully due to the height difference.

"Where's your mommy, ay? How about you go back home to lil' ol' mommy and let her handle the knife, as she should be" He pulled the black haired boy's face down to his as he said so, before pulling back.

"HAHAHA!" The boy's friends kept on laughing in the background.

"...Haha..." The black haired boy chuckled, "HAHAHAHA!" He broke into a laughter of his own, confusing the group of teenager's as they witnessed him pat the blonde boy's shoulder profusely.

Up, down, up down. He kept moving his arm as such as he pat the boy's shoulder, "HAHAHA!" He carried on laughing, weirding the boy out as he attempted to swat his arm away, ignoring the pain in his shoulder.

His attempt, however, was futile as the black haired boy's arm felt like a boulder causing him to wince a little as he held his hand, "You bas-" The boy attempted to refute but yelped, "Agh!" As he felt the grip on his shoulder tighten and tighten to the point it felt like it was going to snap at any moment.

The black haired boy stopped laughing as he brought his head down towards the boy's ear. His face darkened as he threatened crudely, "If you know what's best for you, you'd better run away and leave me be before things get... bloody, per se"

The blonde boy looked down slightly to see the black haired boy grip the hilt of the sword, pulling it out of its sheathe slightly to showcase its realness.

After a second of no response, he felt his shoulder about to shatter as the grip got tighter causing him to step back, "Tch!" He hissed, speed walking back to his friends before leaving the alley together.

"Son of a bitch... you'll pay for that..." The blonde boy vowed angrily as he held his pained shoulder, "Fuck... that hurts"

"You say something, Kurt?" One of the blonde boy's, Kurt's, friends asked with a raised brow.

"Nothing's wrong! Be quiet and keep walking!" Kurt shouted, frustrated at what had happened with the black haired boy, 'Just you wait, Sword Fucker!'

Meanwhile, in a hotel room, a lively boy could be seen moving his hand up and down along his long sword.

With a towel covered in oil, the black haired boy wiped his unsheathed sword clean before putting the towel down and wiping the sword with a cotton cloth. The sword was something named a 'katana', the length was neither too long or too short, nor too curved. [Image - Yamato from DMC]

He currently sat on the edge his bed while cleaning his sword. He took the time to think about the big day tomorrow.

"The Magic Knights Exam, ay...?" He mumbled to himself, "I can't wait, buddy" He smiled at his sword, a nostalgic feeling in his stomach building up as his smile slowly withered away, "For mom and dad... I'll become a Magic Knight" He forced a small smile as he looked at his katana, a gift from his parents.

A/N: I know that not knowing the MC's name yet might be kind of annoying, but I want to try the author approach of not introducing a character by their name until their name's been said - if you get what I mean.
