Chapter 12: Unlikely alliance

The clash between Amon and the Skeleton King continued relentlessly. Amon's once-endless stamina was beginning to wane, and he found himself growing tired with each passing exchange. It was during this grueling battle that Star, with a hint of urgency in his voice, finally revealed a crucial detail.

"Listen, Amon," Star gasped out between breaths, "This guy, the Skeleton King, he has a unique ability called 'Drain.' It allows him to siphon our stamina, making us tire out faster."

Amon's eyes widened in realization as he began to feel the effects of this draining ability. His movements grew sluggish, and the Skeleton King capitalized on his weakened state. Three quick and precise slashes cut across Amon's body, causing him to stagger back in pain.

Seeing Amon hurt and vulnerable, the Skeleton King abruptly switched targets, turning its attention towards Star. With relentless speed and precision, it unleashed a barrage of slashes, each one threatening to cut through Star's form. Star's own unique ability, 'Evade,' was faltering under the relentless assault, and he began to take damage.

It seemed like the end was near for Star. Just as the Skeleton King prepared for an overhand strike that could have been fatal, Amon, despite his injuries and exhaustion, summoned his last ounce of strength and jumped in front of Star to protect him.

But then, to their surprise, the Skeleton King halted its attack. Amon and Star were left bewildered, their bodies tense and their hearts pounding. The Skeleton King, with an air of wisdom and compassion, spoke in a voice that carried a weight of understanding.

"I wanted to see if you truly hated monsters, so I attacked your monster companion" the Skeleton King admitted. "I wanted to test your resolve. You see even monsters like us have feelings."

Amon and Star exchanged uncertain glances, struggling to comprehend the unexpected turn of events. The Skeleton King continued, revealing the harsh truth about the existence of monsters in this cursed world. They were constantly ridiculed and mistreated, yet they, too, harbored emotions and desires.

Amon found himself deep in thought, considering the Skeleton King's words and the profound implications they held.

Finally, Amon took a step forward, his gaze unwavering. "Join us," he said with determination. "Help us break this curse."

The Skeleton King, considered the offer for a moment before responding. "I will join you, but on one condition. Promise me that you will do your best to save intelligent monsters from this curse."

Amon nodded in agreement, and the skeleton kings form seemed to soften, reflecting gratitude.

Star, still seething with anger and mistrust, couldn't hold back any longer. "Are you kidding me?" he shouted. "This guy just tried to kill us!"

Amon chuckled, attempting to ease the tension. "Ignore him" he said with a wry smile. "Star acts like this a lot."

As they continued their journey back home, Amon turned to the Skeleton king. "By the way," he asked, "what should I call you?"

It paused for a moment, seemingly touched by the question. "I've never had a name," it replied. "You can call me Skolo."

Amon smiled, feeling a newfound sense of camaraderie. "Welcome to the team, Skolo," he said, extending a hand. Skolo accepted the handshake with a hint of gratitude.

Star, still simmering with resentment, mumbled under his breath, "This better not be a mistake."
