25: Unexpected Battle

Very soon, I could see that we were slowly nearing a wall that spanned as far as my eyes could see, taking a somewhat odd round shape.

While I expected that we would pass the area where my house was situated, I never knew we would be passing right by it, and from the outside I saw the state my house was in.

When we were still around my house, Grayson noticed me staring and couldn't help but say;

"We came here when looking for you but surprisingly you were not around and what we met in your stead were numerous Humanoids.... and although we managed to defeat them all…"

He didn't say anymore but I already got the gist.

'Well… I don't think I would even be living there any more so that's not much of a problem— I shrugged it off.

Focusing on what was at hand, I saw that we had arrived at the large wall, and getting off his mount, Commander Caldwell approached the wall and then started tracing his hand on different parts with an incredible speed while chanting some words at the same time.

Soon enough, a hole large enough to fit us and our mounts one by one appeared, with the wall that was once there rolling up like some geared gate.

'Wow, I didn't know there was something like this around these walls,' I thought.

Commander Caldwell got back on his horse and led the way out as I followed suit with the remaining nine men following behind him.

Getting through the the hole I saw myself materializing in front of another part.

I heard a rolling sound as the wall was closing back to its original position, piquing my curiosity I turned to look.

Right ahead of us was a pathway that leads into the renowned and great land of humanoids that house dangers.

I thought about the main reason why we were to even come to this place, it wasn't even that we are to do something valuable;it isn't even a confidential trip now.

It was said that Humanoids were spotted around this part of the border, and they were not little in number either.

The team that figured this out was once a seven man team, but unfortunately after encountering the Humanoids, there were only two individuals left who were even among the team.

Sent here to investigate and find out what the humanoids were planning that made them to camp here in large numbers.

We were now going to enter the abode of the humanoids, traveling through trying to find traces of the humanoids, and avoid them immediately.

We travelled for about three to four hours, now getting to their area. Suddenly whooshing sounds could be heard from all four directions as our mounts started to be in dismay, All I saw next were all our mounts wimping.

All I could see were arrows in the sky which were emitting dark energy that dissipated into the atmosphere.

Some arrows were shot in our direction too but with commander Caldwell we managed to get rid of them before getting to the majority of us or the ground which prevented our mounts from falling to the ground

Quickly getting up though, Commander Caldwell shouted;

"Adopt a defensive formation; keep in mind that you have to protect Nate."

While the others were forming a circle around Me I held and their belongings, I quickly voiced out his thoughts;

"Commander, I don't mean to disobey you, but I think I can put up a fight and contribute rather than being a burden to you guys."

"Nate, stop disobeying orders, if you don't follow my commands we will leave you to die so I would rather you stay where you can be safe." Commander Caldwell was almost about to lose patience but while thinking about the Humanoid in the market center, he quickly shrugged the feeling off.

"Okay stay inside and support us how you can!!"

Nate, having decided that he would do his best to assist them from inside the circle opened his status page.

Removing my focus from the semi transparent screen before me, I looked around only to find ten or more Humanoids holding arrows from afar, because of the dark energy emitting from them; I couldn't pinpoint their real cultivation stage and they seemed to be able to shoot more than one arrow at once.

"Sh*t… I knew they were archaic humanoids," Commander Caldwell cursed.

Soon enough, their suffocating smell soon reached us, which made our noses twitch.

Behind them, were a group of humanoids that looked exactly the same as the one I killed in the market center, the humanoids from the Daiki race.

"We have a tough battle ahead of us guys, do not hold back," Commander Caldwell soon started giving out orders;

"James, Agale, Richard, and Peter, being the only mages in the group, I will leave you guys to the archaic humanoids while the rest deal with the Daiki humanoids."

Looking around all I could see was happy faces. In this dire situation their faces should have been sorrowful but instead it was courageous smiles.

"YES SIR!" the rest of the soldiers exclaimed.

Forming another circle with nine on the outside, four inside and one in the middle, the fourteen soldiers spread out while still maintaining their circular formation.

The Daiki humanoids charged towards the outer nine while transforming their hands into swords, while the archaic ones nocked their arrows each and fired away.

The human mages although smaller in number quickly cast balls of fire, water and earth stones to block the arrows successfully.

A great battle ensued with the two groups at a stalemate; only the humanoid side had lost two archaic humanoids, to Agale, the obviously best mage within the group.

I, attentively evading stray projectile coming my way; I was looking at the screen that popped up in front of me

[NEW QUEST OBTAINED]

Fully grasping the details of the new quest, Nate closed the Tab and focused on the battle.

He looked towards a soldier who was suddenly on the losing side due to getting hit with a stray arrow straight to his shoulder.

Gritting his teeth and bearing the pain, he also managed to inflict a serious injury on the thigh of the humanoid who had relaxed after seeing his opponent getting injured.

The battle continued and the soldier was soon able to stab the humanoid in the thigh again, but he had lost the freedom to mobilize his left hand due to the humanoid also targeting the place where he was hit by the arrow.

while I was still avoiding stray projectiles coming my way, I was conjuring a huge fireball in hand which was draining my MP and as soon as I saw the humanoid raising his transformed hands to strike down the now weaponless human soldier, I threw the fireball towards the most injured part of its body; the thigh.

The human soldier, having seen that there was a fireball heading towards the humanoid used his remaining energy to get away from the humanoid.

The humanoid, which was smiling, thinking that his enemy's efforts to run from him was in vain wasn't able to notice the fireball in time, and by the time he did, it had already reached his exposed thigh and exploded when coming in contact with him.

His body was ripped apart before I saw a notification.

Focusing back to the battle, I saw that Grayson had finished off an enemy, but a humanoid that had killed one of the humans was already making way to the one I had just saved and was focused on killing the soldier.

Suddenly appearing, Grayson slashed at the humanoid with his sword while dragging the injured soldier away as I helped in mobilizing all those injured who had been alert all through sent a fireball through the gash on his chest, blowing his head off his body.

Immediately alerted, Grayson looked towards the trajectory where the fireball came from and saw Nate who was looking at the notification that appeared;
