Crow's Lost Memories

Corvin is a boy who grew up with dreams of changing the world. Humanity is in the brink of civilization changing revolutions. As the waves of turmoil create change, he gets the chance and connections to lead the change of his homeland along with his friends. Will he be able to change the world in the way he wants during the industrial revolution of his planet, or will he fail as he uncovers the truth about reality and his real identity? A/N: This is my first work, and just a simple hobby of mine but I do take it seriously. I want to keep some parts of it different from the rest like how the magic works, and I know it may turn out more complicated than classic game-esque magic, I still like that kind of worldbuilding. I appreciate constructive criticism. Currently 1 chapter per week because I am busy with uni exams. Will be back to 2 per 3 days after everything is over, which will take about three months.

C56- Depths of the Nest (3)

WHIIRRR~

The two watched the headless body of the giant roach wreak havoc inside the giant room.

"Well... It's not as bad as I expected. I really thought that thing was an unkillable monster hellbent on killing us when you said it could move even after being decapitated..."

"It doesn't have a head... Even if it can move after that, it can't see, hear or smell anything. It will just go berserk and attack everything it touches erratically. We are lucky that our platform is this high up in the room."

"Even then... How do you think we will go further in the nest when this room looks like this?"

Corvin looked down the platform once again. The roach's body was flying randomly, and stomping whatever was in it's way without discrimination. Many honeycombs were smashed, and the monster resting inside them were killed. The bugs didn't try to fight back, and just tried to run away from the rampaging corpse, making the difference in their strenght apparent.

"Uhmmm.... It should die at some point right? Look, most of the platforms are okay, so we could probably find a way to enter another corridor..."

"And, how do you think we will achieve that without being found out by the bugs?"

"...We will need to run through this mess..."

"Right... Who is going to break the news to the girls?"

"You."

"No."

"What?! I fought with that thing, I am exhausted! Do you think I have the energy to argue with them? And, it's your wife who is the most stubborn there! She won't listen to me, but she might listen to you!"

"Ggghh...Okay, I get it. I am going to bring them here then..."

After making a dissatisfied grumble, Noah agreed and took on the responsibility.

"---!!!"

"-!"

Someone's shouts were heard from the corridor before Corvin heard Amy, who suddenly appeared next to him.

"What did you do..."

"Huh? Why did you come here?"

"I didn't want to see a happy family get torn apart before it had a chance to exist, so I just came here."

"Are those two idiots really fighting?"

"..."

"Ugh..."

"---!!!"

The sudden shouting noise almost caused Corvin to fall to the ground when he was walking towards Noah and Clair to stop the fight.

"Yeah... I don't think you should go..."

"Master... I am sorry... I think I ruined everything..."

After a while the shouting sound got weaker and weaker. Just as Corvin thought one of his friends had finally become a felon, they saw a wide silhouette walking towards them at the other side of the corridor.

"Huh?"

"Eh? Weren't they fighting?"

The wide silhouette was Noah and Clair, who were walking so close to eachother that an outsider might have mistaken them as conjoined twins. With slightly red faces and a smile they desperately tried to hide, the two slowly walked towards the flabbergasted Amy and Corvin.

Amy and Corvin turned to eachother and asked at the same time.

""Weren't they shouting at eachother just now?""

*****

After Corvin told everyone what he was planning and where he was planning to go, they walked towards the bridge that connected the platforms that led to the rest of the nest.

Clair and Noah were surprisingly silent, and while Corvin was explaining things, they often glanced at eachother at the exact same time, and then turned away with a blush.

'What happened to them..?"

They ran towards the corridor Corvin chose, and Corvin used his magic to push off any bugs that might be on the bridge as well as the dying roach's body, which was still going about it's rampage albeit it was slower than before. Corvin and Amy forgot about the dangers in front of them because they were shocked to see the two who shouted like beasts at each other suddenly become all clingy and bashful. On the other hand, the couple behind them were only looking at the other one with a side eye while acting like they were looking at where they were walking towards.

The platform they were running towards was connected to a corridor, and the reason Corvin chose it was because of it's location. It was much closer to the bottom of the giant room, which meant it was deeper in the nest, and also it was close to the center on the wall but was still easy to access from where they were. Corvin guessed that this corridor might lead to somewhere close to the center of the nest, which he assumed was where the Horde Queen might be hiding. He also hoped to find the humans nearby as well.

WHIIRRR~

While they were running towards the platform, the rampaging corpse of the giant roach suddenly flew upwards because of an ant that was stuck between it's elytron. The roach hit the ceiling of the giant room, and started to fall down. As it fell, it hit many bridges that connected the various platforms of the nest, and broke most of them. After the corpse bounced around, it fell slightly below the level of the bridge they were running on, and it's elytron suddenly opened back.

Whirr~

While running, Corvin looked at the corpse flying up again and hitting platforms randomly, the corpse hit a wall and turned towards roughly where they were running towards.

"Run faster! That thing is coming here!"

As Corvin shouted that, the other three came back to themselves and focused on running faster. Just as they got to the plaform, the corpse crashed into the bridge they were running on, and the stone bridge started to crumble under it's own weight from the point it was broken at.

The four succesfully made it into the corridor that looked similar to the one they were inside before with the dim lighting coming from the shining moss on the ceiling and dark stone walls. Which saved their lives, but they lost their way back home with it as well.

"..."

"..."

"..Now what?"

"We-... Let's just rest for a while, yes? After the chaos is dealt with, I am sure the bugs will be looking for us, and frankly I am exhausted."

The other's nodded at Corvin's words and chose a spot for themselves to sit down. Amy sat across Corvin, while Noah and Clair sat next to each other while holding hands.

While Corvin was thinking of what to do next, Noah suddenly got up.

"? What happened?"

"Look!"

"Hm? What? Why are you pointing at the wall?"

"Right... I guess it is too dark for you to see it. My eyes see colours better than normal people after all..."

"Are you going to tell me what you saw instead of bragging about your eyes?"

"There is a very slight silvery scar on the wall here... It looks like the one we saw before..."

"Huh?"

"What do you think?"

"If it really is a similar scar, then that means those warriors I said might be here also came towards this corridor..."
