C04- Requesting Help

Corvin's mom, Sally, woke him up for breakfast. When he saw his mother alive and well, before he realized, he jumped towards his mother. Corvin teared up and hugged his mom.

"Huh!? Corvy?!"

His mother was surprised. Corvin usually didn't show his sadness. The last time he cried like this was during Matt's dad's funeral. But Corvin didn't explain why he cried. Instead, he opened his mouth to give an even greater shock to his family while they were eating breakfast. He told his family to leave the village.

"Mom, dad. Please leave the village for a day tomorrow."

"Hm? Why?", asked his father.

"A colossus is going to attack the village."

Clank

His mother dropped her fork on the table.

"That's not funny Corvin.", said his dad with a serious tone.

"Dad, I am not joking. Please listen to me and leave the village before tomorrow.", said Corvin, looking at his father's eyes as seriously as he could. His father stared at his eyes, trying to understand what was going on in his son's brain. Soon, he gave up.

"Sigh, okay. I can tell you probably aren't lying, but where did you hear this from?"

"Uuuuhh, I can't tell you, sorry about that."

When he answered, his father furrowed his brows. His mother put the glass in her hand loudly and looked straight into Corvin's eyes with a gaze full of worry.

"What are you going to do then? Do-don't tell me you are going to try and fight with a colossus on your own!", asked his mom anxiously.

"N-no mom, I will go to the city and find someone who can help me, okay? Don't worry."

Corvin lied to his mom while looking straight into her eyes. He actually didn't know if help would come, he just hoped it would. He was half ready to face the worst situation, which is fighting that thing on his own.

After eating breakfast, he left the house while his parents were busy packing important things up.

The sun had already risen. He had no time to waste, the countdown to the colossus' attack had already begun. As he thought about what he would do, he ran towards Connor's house.

"Oh! Hi Corvin, Matt is still eating his breakfast. Do you want to come inside?"

"No, Uncle Connor, I came to borrow a horse. It is an emergency, so can I?"

"Huh? Of course you can, I don't need them today. But why? Did something happen? Do you need help?", asked Connor with a worried voice. Corvin and Matt's parents were old friends and for Connor, Corvin was also his grandson. If he needed help, he would do anything he could.

"Yes, actually, I need help."

"How ca-"

"Gather everyone and evacuate the village before night falls."

"Huh? Why?"

Corvin tried to be as serious as he could.

"A colossus is coming to the village."

"HUH!?"

A shout came from behind Connor. It was Matt, who was listening to them behind his grandpa.

"Wh-what do you mean Corvy? How do you know?", asked Matt.

His father was a soldier who was sent to defend Asmil city of the Margravate as emergency orders when the colossus attack last year happened, and lost his life there. Ever since then Matt and his mother have been living with his grandfather, Connor.

"I can't tell how, but I know it will. Please listen to me and evacuate the vilage."

"I am going to the city to call for help.", shouted Corvin as he ran to get a horse from the stable. He quickly took the closest horse to the door. He jumped on the animal and started moving. It would take about 3 hours at full speed to arrive at Demice city.

*****

"Heh! Who would believe that joke!"

"I am not joking! I can even tell what it looks like!"

"Go away kid, today is a busy day. I don't have time to play with you. The Margrave is going to be tired when he comes back. We can't bother him with your little game."

Corvin was trying to convince the city guards to help him. This was the second time he was let down. But, he didn't want to see his father like that again. So he resorted to his last choice.

Going to the margrave's mansion and directly asking for help instead of relying on the guard's mediation.

So he got up on the horse once again and started asking around how to get there.

*****

"Halt!"

After an hour of asking, he found the way to the Margrave's mansion.

He was in front of the gates of the mansion. It was a big building, almost as big as one of those buildings he saw in the weird dream, but only 3 stories tall. It's outer walls were light brown with whitish wooden window frames and a steel double door painted black.

Two guards wearing light armour with spears in their hands stopped him. One of the guards who stopped him came closer and asked for his name.

"Who are you, and why did you come here?"

"My name is Corvin Mundy. I came from the Tarlen village. I am here to ask for help from the margrave. There will be a colossus attack at my village tomorrow morning. No guards from the city listened to me, so I came here."

"How do you know a colossus will attack your village? The last one was just a year ago, and colossus' normally appear near cities because of the population."

"I can't tell how I know it, but it will definitely come. Please let me see the margrave!"

The guard looked back at the other one for his opinion.

"I don't think we ca-"

Suddenly a boy his age came to the gates.

"Let him inside!"

It was a handsome young boy the same height as Corvin. He had light gray hair and purple eyes. He was wearing a simple dark blue shirt and black pants.

"But Young Master, what if he is here to harm one of you?"

'Young Master? So, he is the son of the margrave, probably?', thought Corvin. Definitely, the boy looked like a noble.

"He doesn't look suspicious, he didn't hide his identity and there are no weapons on him. So just let him in. We can't ignore a colossus no matter what.", said the boy and turned towards Corvin. He reached out his hand and introduced himself.

"My name is Noah Vyolor, the eldest son of Margrave Felyp Vyolor. Do you want to come in?"

"My name is Corvin Mundy, I am pleased to meet you, uh-", he wondered if he should call him young master like the guards.

"You can call me Noah. I didn't earn nobility myself so just treat me as someone your age.", said Noah with a fresh smile. Corvin definitely saw rays of light coming from behind Noah.

'He is too bright...', Corvin squinted his eyes.

*****

Corvin was inside the mansion, sitting across Noah.

The room they were in was a large room with a big window showing the garden of the mansion. There was a rectangular dark wood coffee table with gold on the edges in the middle of the room, with two sofas at the two sides of the table. The walls were light yellow with some paintings and two swords hanging on them.

There was an eleven year old girl sitting next to Noah. She had long black hair and purple eyes like her brother. She was looking at Corvin cautiously, like a puppy checking his actions to see if he was a threat to her owner or not.

"Bella, don't look at him like that, he is my guest."

"But you trust people too easily sometimes, brother! You should be more careful, you know how dangerous your goal is!"

"Bella, can you keep private matters private?", said Noah smiling towards his sister. Except his eyes weren't smiling at all. It seems Bella was about to say something she shouldn't.

"Hmph! Don't say I didn't warn you!", said Bella and left the room pouting angrily.

After watching her leave, Noah turned back to Corvin.

"Please don't mind my sister, she is sometimes too cautious."

"It's okay, I don't mind. It might save her life someday."

"I guess that's true.", muttered Noah before talking again with a more serious tone.

"So? Is what you said true?"

"Yes. A colossus is going to attack our village. I did tell Uncle Connor to evacuate, but I don't know if people listened to him."

"Uncle Connor?"

"Ah, you can say he is like a part of my family."

"Hm. Can you tell more about the colossus?"

"Yes. It is a giant floating eyeball, as long as 3 people, I think. It also has a lot of smaller ones with it. They have a mouth at their bottom half with teeth you wouldn't want to get bitten by."

"And I'm guessing you aren't gonna tell me how you know this?"

"Maybe some day, who knows?"

"Sigh, Alright, I will trust you. Better safe than sorry. My father should be on his way back from Ilkos city, so he should be able to come and help. I will forward what you said to him when he comes back."

"Thank you."

"And? What will you do if it doesn't come?"

"It will.", answered Corvin, remembering the disaster he watched.

"Talking like you already saw it.... Well, I won't dig too much. And what about you? What will you do?"

"I will be waiting for that thing in case the Margrave is late."

"Are you crazy?! Ignoring the fact that it is a colossus, do you even know how to fight?"

"Hehe, I can use magic you know!", replied Corvin, puffing his chest.

"You can? Well, this isn't the craziest thing I heard from you, I guess. And what is your weapon?"

"An axe.", murmured Corvin. But Noah could hear him very clearly.

'This guy...'

"Don't tell me you are going to fight a colossus with an old axe you use to chop wood."

"....."

Corvin turned his gaze to the ground.

"You really are an idiot, aren't you? Come with me, you can borrow a weapon from us."

"Is it okay?", asked Corvin with shining eyes and an excited expression. He was curious about the weapons the Margrave had.

"I can't let you die to a colossus after you warned us about it. If you are right, then you will be saving a lot of lives. Plus, you can use magic as well. You might become someone important, you know? And you are just borrowing with my permission so no one can say anything.", said Noah as he showed the way to Corvin.

The armoury was a dimly lit room with a lot of storage space. There were a lot of weapons in the armoury. From swords to spears, most looked like standard equipment given to normal soldiers but there were some unique ones as well.

"I am not going to give you a sword since you don't know how to use it, so I will give you this axe. It looks good but I don't know what it's made of, so don't do anything too crazy."

Noah handed Corvin a single headed battle axe. It had a head made out of a green metal that got a bit wider than normal axes at it's sharp edge. It's handle was about 40 centimeters and was made out dark brown wood. The grip on the axe was out of black leather. Holding it was comfortable and the axe was actually lighter than it looked.

Corvin thanked Noah and after some chit chat Corvin left the margrave's mansion. Before leaving, Noah gave Corvin a letter with the margrave's seal to help him evacuate the village.

Outside, the sun was beginning to set at it's highest point. Corvin headed to his village to finish his preperations. With ideas on how to fight that thing floating in his head, he rode on the horse towards his village.
