Crossroads of Destiny

As troubling visions assail the oracle prince of Carendlus, something stirs in the vast lands of wilderness that lay bordering the kingdom. Amrunela and Jaekel decide to investigate as ignoring visions is something that no one in their right mind would do. Joining in their adventure is one rather eccentric fellow and a much more sane half-dragon.

Amrunela had enjoyed the meal that Niliah had made. The elven girl was a good cook. Much better than either Jaekel or herself were.

She was still not quite sure what to make of these two. The elf seemed a bit wary of them, and unsure if they were actually okay to be so friendly with. The boy, though, seemed utterly at ease and even friendly now that neither one of them were threatening his companion. She was not entirely sure the two were friends either, though they seemed to trust each other to a certain extent.

It was not entirely unheard of for two Nix'Rylians to get along well, but it was out of the norm for the place. And for them both to be so relaxed around each other was definitely more than a little surprising to Amrunela.

Because she could easily see there was a difference in how Niliah treated them as compared to Talon. She seemed more open to him, and it was obvious that the only reason she was really giving them a chance was because he was.

Still, they did not seem as close as she and Jaekel were. But Jaekel and her had always been abnormally close, being almost attached at the hip since childhood.

She could not help but wonder at just how relaxed Talon seemed with them though. He seemed utterly at ease as if that instance when he had almost punched her prince in the face had never happened. It was more than a little weird to her.

She could understand Jaekel moving on from that incident quickly. He had probably had a premonition or something that they would prove useful.

But she doubted this wild child was an oracle, or that he had any divine abilities to his name. He seemed a bit too rough around the edges to be a cleric.

After they finished eating, before she could even stir to offer, Talon had jumped up and offered to do the dishes. He had already whisked them off before they could think to protest.

"Is he always like this?" She tried to speak to Niliah again.

The elf looked at her, arched an eyebrow, and spoke tersely, "Since apparently we will be accompanying you, I am sure you will see exactly what Talon is like."

She heard Jaekel clear his throat, then he leaned towards the elf, "You seem rather close. At least enough to trust each other."

Niliah actually softened a little, and she looked thoughtful, "I suppose for Nix'Rylians we are. But… I still don't really know why he is so intent on hanging around me all the time, I just got tired of telling him to leave me alone."

Amrunela had thought the man to be far enough away that he should not have heard them, but he seemed to have pretty sharp ears because he tossed over at them, "I follow you around because you are my Princess. I can't go letting you get hurt now can I?"

He seemed cheerful, but the way he said 'My Princess' dripped in possessiveness. And almost obsession. It made a slight chill go down Amrunela's spine.

But she did not say anything, and Niliah did not seem to be all that bothered by it. So maybe it worked for them.

As night was falling, the young sorceress did not want to stay up that late. A bit hesitantly she offered for Niliah to share her tent, but the elf shook her head.

"I prefer sleeping outside. Used to it."

She did not press it and decked into her tent to settle in for the night. Pulling out her journal she wrote in it.

"Elirius,9th of the month of Caimures, Evening,

It feels a bit odd not to have been in worship today. But traveling does have that effect. This has been one eventful day though. I think we made new friends. Possibly? I don't really know what to make of them. I think they are nice enough but there is something about Talon that I can't quite put my finger on. He just seems… off, I guess. Well, maybe time will tell. Niliah I think is a bit easier to understand. For a Nix'Rylian she is not quite as selfish I think, but I get the sense she has been through some stuff that makes it hard for her to trust. But perhaps once you reach that stage of trust she might be one of those people who you can rely on to always have your back. But maybe I am just hoping that to be the case."

After jotting down rather quickly in her journal, Amrunela rolled over and fell asleep. Though as she did so, she found herself thinking that it felt a tad lonely. Especially when the night before she had slept back to back with her best friend. That had been rather nice. Just knowing that he was close…

Sylv's Corner:

"Yeah, I can't really cook either. I never really bothered learning many recipes. I am sure I could learn...I don't think I'm hopeless with ingredients but so far I still only know how to make one dish."
