Chapter 33: Mittens

Abigail’s POV

“Pick somewhere that will cheer you up,” Elle texted me. “It’s my treat.”

She offered at first to pick me up for a date, but I had to decline the offer and explained that Momma could not see us together. I didn’t bombard her with the details of my most recent scolding. I didn’t want to snuff out the flame of passion that she always brought when we were together. My goal was to ignite it further today.

I texted Elle to meet me at the cat café. It was almost halfway between Elle’s place and the college, but she didn’t mind a bit of a drive.

We arrived at the café in the cloudy afternoon. The cats were sitting behind the cat silhouette-shaped window, still trying to soak up any sun rays and vitamin D they could in between the thick clouds.

I hooked my arm through Elle’s, and we walked in through the entrance. We waited behind the baby gate placed after the front door so none of the cats would escape as customers shuffled in and out.
