Chapter 30: The Book Trade
Abigail’s POV
Elle held the fifth edition of Aetos the Sorcerer for me with both hands, bracing it against her chest. She made it to the register first while I was retracing my steps to find the book I spotted earlier.
“Show me what you got!” She said.
Why was I nervous to show her? We had plenty of time to switch my choice out if she hated it. An elderly woman was purchasing a cookbook in front of us. She was having issues reading the credit card reader and squinting at it while the cashier helped her. Elle and I could patiently wait, but the woman with her child behind us was rolling her eyes.
She handed my novel to me in her left hand and traded it for my book selection with her right.
Elle stared at the venus fly trap on the cover. “Deadly Plants: Growing And Caring For Plants Both Carnivorous and Poisonous,” she read out loud.
