From Boy to Man

Looking at the body on the bed before him, Genji didn't know what to feel. His face was solemn and he was plenty worried about what happened to this person.

Their body was thin and pale, and the chi in their body was in disarray becuase of the destroyed Chi pathway.

"..."

Genji was quiet as he looked at Suki.

'What happened to you?'

A grim look appeared on Genji's face as he brought his hand over to Suki's stomach. A pained look surfacing in his eyes instantly.

'She was pregnant…' thought Genji as he furrowed his eyebrows, instantly confirming that she once was pregnant. 'What the hell happened to her?'

Genji couldn't ask anyone, especially Zuko since even he didn't know what had happened to her.

The only thing Zuko knew was that Suki was stumbling around aimlessly in the snow in the Northern Water Tribe. If he hadn't arrived in time, Suki might have frozen to death out there.

After traveling around all of the Earth Kingdom, Zuko was done searching for himself. Eventually, he found himself at the end of his journey, only to begin his journey to strengthen his firebending after he found that it was no longer as strong as before.

With his newfound mentality and spiritual self, Zuko found that his fire's strength had dwindled. With not a single ounce of rage to power his fire, Zuko found his flames had become extremely weak.

Unlike in the show, Zuko didn't go to the Sun Warriors this time around and instead went around the world. Without any urgency to regain his firebending, Zuko didn't think of going to the Temple of the Sun Warriors, who he believed were extinct, to look for some form of help.

Training himself.

It was a shame that it didn't work out too well. His Firebending may have improved a little, but it wasn't enough to train the avatar.

"…"

Genji looked at Suki for a couple of more seconds before calming down his mind and taking out a roll of acupuncture needles.

Making sure the door is locked, Genji removed Suki's clothes and began to insert the needles in her body.

The body that Genji once viewed as beautiful was now something that made him feel pain as he looked at ther thin body and non-existent breasts.

It might be stupid of him, but Genji closed his eyes and spread his spirit and senses all over his body.

He had never tried it yet, but in order to save Suki, Genji was about to attempt to move his chi with a new technique he hasn't completely grasped yet.

Energybending.

Feeling the flowing chi within his body, Genji began to merge his spirit and sense together before attempting to move his chi.

A serious look formed on his face, sweat rolled down his forehead and down the side of his face.

Plop!

With a clear and audible sound within his own spirit, Genji felt like he had accomplished it.

To think he is able to energybend!

Quickly making use of his experience bending the elements, Genji was able to quickly grow accustomed to moving the chi.

'Now the difficult part…' thought Genji as he looked down at Suki. 'Letting the chi flow out of me and into Suki…'

Placing his hands over Suki's body, Genji placed one hand above Suki's chest and the other over her navel.

Closing his eyes again and concentrating with all his might, Genji controlled his Chi and made it flow into Suki's body.

Shh…

Smoothly, the chi flew into Suki and under Genji's careful actions, the chi calmly traveled throughout her body.

The chi passed through her damaged chi pathways and slowly began to heal them.

Minutes passed and in just under an hour, Suki's chi pathways were healed just enough for them to hold its own Chi.

In order for her Chi to continue healing her from within, Genji would need to guide her Chi with the acupuncture needles.

Removing his hands from her chest and navel, Genji pulled out the needles already in her before sticking them back in different places.

That wasn't just it, Genji inserted his Chi into her body through the needles, attracting her chi over to heal that area that was poked with a needle.

Another hour passed and more sweat rolled down Genji's pale face. His Chi was slowly running out and panic began to build up within him.

If his Chi runs out now, Genji won't be able to attract Suki's chi over to specific parts of her body to heal her and will instead begin to rampage within her body.

With her Chi pathways damaged, the flowing Chi within her will just end up killing her after a while.

[Ding!]

However, as if by some miracle, the system finally began to function well.

Partially.

[+2 Energy]

Suddenly, Genji felt an influx of energy within his body.

His heart began beating faster and the blood within his body flowed faster.

With a smile on his face, Genji believed he could finish on time before his energy ran out.

"Fuck…"

Sighing tiredly, Genji looked over at Suki who looked rosy and was breathing more normally now.

He smiled a little and closed his eyes for a second…

"Hm?"

Opening his eyes, Genji suddenly found himself inside a lush and green forest.

Confused, Genji stood up and looked around, confused as to what was happening.

'Is this… the spirit world?'

Then, as if answering his question, a beautiful spirit in the form of a manta ray was flying high above his head.

Bo…

Boo…

"What's that sound?"

Turning his head to the sound, Genji began to walk out of the forest, hoping to catch a glimpse of the source of the explosions.

'A dark spirit!'

Genji's eyebrows were raised and he quickly frowned, wondering how a dark spirit appeared here.

Although the spirit world isn't all love and rainbows, Genji knew that dark spirits aren't too common around here either.

BOOOM!

Suddenly, the entire spirit world shook and Genji saw a blinding bright light shoot up into the sky.

'Is that… no way… it's a spirit portal!'

Focusing his thoughts on the spirit portal, Genji managed to suddenly appear nearer to the portal.

His eyes were focused on everything near the portal. It was then that Genji noticed dark spirits enter the spirit world with children in their arms, all unconscious.

All those dark spirits carrying children walked to the center where a large tree was. Inside that tree was another spirit, sealed within.

Vaatu, the spirit of chaos and darkness.

'What the hell is going on?'

Genji frowned and began to glare at the dark spirits and Vaatu.

'This never happened in the show…' thought Genji as he looked on in worry.

"Save us!"

"Hm?"

Suddenly, Genji heard a voice right next to him and to his surprise, Genji found Bob!

"You can talk, Bob?" asked Genji, rather surprised this mustached marshmallow spirit could speak.

"Please, save us! Vaatu is planning on escaping by sacrificing children under the four elements!"

"What?!"

Genji stood up quickly, shocked at what he was hearing, disbelief coloring his face.

"Why does it have to be children?" asked Genji, his gaze shifting over uncomfortably to the unconscious children.

"Because children have high amounts of spiritual energy within their bodies. Especially newborns," explained Bob.

However, the instant Genji heard the word newborns, Genji felt his mind go blank as he remembered Suki's body.

Ba-dump!

Ba-dump!

Genji's face began to morph as he began to feel indescribable emotions right at this moment.

Pain, anger, disbelief…

His face didn't know what expression to display and it continued to change.

"Argh!!"

Suddenly, Genji roared out in anguish.

His gaze filled with hatred and killing intent was instantly directed over to the dark spirits in the distance. An intense wish to kill the dark spirits sprouted within Genji.

However, Genji didn't do anything… yet.

Clenching his fists, Genji asked, "Have they done anything to the children or… newborns?"

"No," answered Bob.

Ha~

Suddenly, Genji felt a large sense of relief after hearing the small spirit's answer.

"For now, the children will be kept alive with the nourishment of spirit water. For newborns, they will be placed closer to the Tree of Time in order to receive proper nourishment to prevent them from dying, which will have some side effects on them," explained Bob.

Genji frowned and turned to Bob, "What sort of side-effects?"

"They will grow older because of the vast amount of spiritual energy that leaks from the Tree of Time. Newborns are easily affected by their surroundings, and since they will be in close proximity to the Tree of Time…" Bob went quiet and stopped talking.

Genji went quiet as well, suddenly feeling a sense of urgency after hearing Bob's explanation.

"Wait, you said that Vaatu needs all children from the FOUR elements," Genji began as he turned to Bob. "As far as I know, the last airbender is the Avatar."

Bob shook his small head and answered Genji, "No, he's no longer the last airbender. Once that portal opened, the various descendants of airbenders have begun to awaken their Airbending.

Spiritual energy is flooding the mortal world as we speak right now.

Not only that, but the seal on Vaatu is also weakening.

Once those dark spirits open the other portal, they will sacrifice all those children to unseal Vaatu and provide their spiritual energy to him so that he could grow powerful in an instant."

"Fuck…" silently cursed Genji as he clenched and unclenched his hands multiple times. "How much time do I have before Vaatu escapes?"

"You have… two weeks," calculated Bob as he looked at the other spirit portal that was still closed.

"Two weeks," Genji rubbed his chin and nodded. He turned to Bob and decided to ask Bob one last question, one he may not like. "How did the Dark Spirits unseal the spirit portal, I thought only the avatar could unseal them?"

"That's true. However, what is the avatar?"

Bob turned to look at Genji and asked back.

Genji furrowed his eyebrows and answered, "The combination of a human and a powerful spirit?"

"Correct. Now, if I told you that a spirit is only as powerful as the amount of spiritual energy they hold, what would you think?"

"That it's impossible," said Genji, his mind slowly working toward what Bob was trying to explain.

"Right, spirits are born with set limits on how much spiritual energy they have…"

Suddenly, Genji's eyes lit up and he quickly understood.

If spirits have a set amount of spiritual energy, they need a large amount of spiritual energy in order to count as a powerful spirit. Not just that, but they need the energy a human possesses, but to reach the level of the avatar…

The dark spirits must have killed countless humans to obtain their 'elemental' energy and spiritual energy.

"Vaatu is one disgusting asshole," muttered Genji in rage, wishing he could just get rid of Vaatu for good.

It's a shame he will just be 'reborn' from Raava.

"You should go now, before Vaatu discovers you," said Bob, pushing Genji away from the area.

"Right…" nodded Genji, aware of what's at stake here.

"I… will be back later. Should I bring the avatar?" Genji asked.

"No!" Bob quickly shook his marshmallow head. "If Vaatu gets his hands on the avatar, he might pull out Raava and destroy her, plunging the world into an era of darkness."

Genji nodded and turned to look at Bob one last time before disappearing from the Spirit World.

***

Back at the Earth Kingdom, inside the Palace, Genji's eyes shot open.

A serious look appeared on his face as he realized what was at stake here.

'My peaceful life with my family…' thought Genji as he turned to glance at Suki who's eyes were opened now.

"Suki…?"

Quickly standing up, Genji approached Suki and gazed at her lovingly. Completely different as to how he had last seen her when leaving Kyoshi Island.

"…"

A blank look remained on Suki's face, her eyes only revealing pain and sadness from the loss of the baby she was only recently aware of.

Her joy was short lived and the joy of being a mother was stolen from her.

Genji saw the look in her face and grit his teeth in anger directed at Vaatu.

Closing his eyes and calming his emotions, Genji's face turned into one of seriousness.

"Suki," Genji said with a firm tone filled with gravitas. "The baby is still alive."

With great speed, Suki suddenly held Genji's clothes tightly with her currently weak hands. Her gaze was filled with indescribable pain.

"Please… don't lie to me…"

Genji felt his heart ache as he saw the pained look on Suki's face, something slowly grew in his heart.

Placing one of his hands on one of Suki's hands, Genji held her tightly before speaking to her seriously, "The baby is alive and we will go get them back together."

"You…"

Suki's eyebrows furrowed in pain before her head slowly fell onto Genji's chest.

Genji lowered his head and looked at Suki, not too sure what to do. However, he did what his heart told him to.

Lifting his hand, Genji placed it on Suki's head and caressed her. Genji thought everything was going well when he suddenly heard Suki's sobbing.

A strong and confident woman like Suki… crying.

It was then that Genji suddenly felt the massive weight of being a father and having a wife fall upon his shoulders.

But most of all, he felt a great amount of anger and the intention to kill rise within him. His face turned cold and his gaze became chilly, giving goosebumps to any who looked into his eyes.

He just wished to kill anyone who would dare to harm his family, no matter who they were. Whether it be a God or the Devil himself, Genji would do anything to ensure the safety of his family.
