An Expensive Joke

Mabli crossed her legs as she sat on a chair near the table that had the sweet pies that the kitchen had prepared for them. She picked Yone up, looked at it closely, and bit into it.

"Where in the world did Thress see teeth and fingers from?"

When she was on the third mini pie that the maids had brought for her and Thress, Mabli heard Thress stir on the bed.

She watched him until his eyelids fluttered open and he realized where he was.

From where Mabli was sitting, she could tell that there was reasoning in his eyes now. All she had to do was wait and hear what would come out of Thress's mouth.

Thress looked around, wondering why he was lying on his bed.

He remembered waking up that morning and attending a meeting with his subordinates. But that was the last memory he had to his day.

Now, he was confused as to what must have happened and was even beginning to worry deeply — a worry that bordered on fear.
