Chapter Thirty-One: I know his name.

"She was bringing him to you so he would tell you that nothing happened between them," Mr. Greenfield shouted.

Jake stopped dead in his tracks. He took a deep breath to allow his anger to disperse while reason returned. His mind was conflicted, but in times when he struggled with disbelief, he always knew he could trust Mr. Greenfield. 

He looked into Cindy's eyes. She stood right by his side, her arm on his shoulder as she helped him come down from boiling point to calm summer's day sea. She turned her frame towards Mr. Greenfield. She could tell Jake wanted to go back and get answers, but the issue he had just uttered was making him hesitant. 

It seemed as if he was, in a way, afraid of remonstrance that would come from her. Her smile was comforting as she nudged him towards the old man.

"I'll wait in the car."

Jake returned to hear the rest of the story.
