Chapter 43: It's almost midnight

The Masquerade was in full swing. Hundreds of people entered the former Royal ballroom, and all dressed in various dresses and suits befitting the most gorgeous of parties. A large chandelier decorated with diamonds swung from the ceiling. The floors were shiny enough to reflect every single light above them.

Between the sounds of heels clicking on the marble and the whispers of awes between partners, it was like a crowd of angels had descended upon the hall—wings on the back of every person, man, woman, or child.

The music had already begun, dozens flooding to the floors in an intricate version of a waltz, timed to the music perfectly. Laughter rang through the halls, but one person was not happy.

“Is something wrong, Prince Nikos?”

Nikos ground his teeth at the overly flowery words of the Princess beside him. He refused to look at her all night, instead of keeping his eyes on the door, waiting and hoping.

So far, his hopes had let him down.
