Lief briefly found himself at loose ends.
Ezra had invited Lief to go along when he left Eks Corp's headquarters to take the position the King had given him, but Lief had declined. Perhaps he was still feeling wary of being given the Jade Corp position that Ezra had accepted, or perhaps he was just ready to have a break from watching over the old man.
The rest of the Eks Corp Security team that the Queen had assigned to watch over the 'dead' man, transferred stations with him, but Lief returned to the King's residence. Ordinarily at this time of year, for most of the last decade, Brendan would now be back at school, while Lief would take time to tend to his own investments and catch up on social obligations.
