Chapter 013: Unexpected

Chesster and Ace looked at each other. Both of them laugh that they will play in the first round, Chesster knows that he cannot win with Ace as he is right now but he will still play seriously the same with Ace, He won't underestimate Chesster because he knows how good he is especially on unexpected situations.

They go to their table and waiting for the others to get ready. The teachers are still double checking the pairings before they start to prevent them being confuse. After five minutes, everyone is now on their boards and Mr. Andy gave the signal.

Everyone shakes hand before starting the game. And the first round officially started, Mr. Norly was amazed to Chesster and Ace because despite being young, they already at the level of a master who don't get emotional when facing their friend on a game.

The teachers signaled Mr. Andy that they are now finished checking the tables of all the participants. Mr. Andy announced the start of the first round of the afternoon session.

"The round 1 of the beginners second selection starts now!"

Everyone shakes hands and started playing. Mr. Norly was nervous while watching his kids despites of being an player for a long time. After a couple of minutes, Mark won his first round.

Mr. Norly asked what happened.

"What happened?"

"Relax teacher, I won. I've never expected that I can win using scholar's Mate. "Mark replied then smiled to him.

Mr. Norly sighed and relieved. He was nervous that he thought Mark lose. After another thirty minutes, Csarina, Billy, Marco, won their respective games. Mr. Norly smiled to them while looking how happy they are.

The kids are cheering for their classmates who are not yet done on their respective games. Meanwhile at Randy's board, he was slightly losing on pieces but he has advantages at position. He seriously plays his game with confident without hesitations, he keeps on attacking until he won the game.

On Ervin's board, he was playing like he doesn't care everyone in the area like he is looking side to side and up and down but in reality, he was nervous like hell because his opponent was a beautiful girl. He was nervous that he even drops his pen.

There are less than ten boards that are still in progress. The most interesting one out there is the game of Ace and Chesster they are equally on par to each other when looking at their game. Ace was only playing safe because he knows who Chesster is.

After a time passed, Ace and Chesster was the only game on progress. Ervin has successfully won his game despite of being nervous Infront of his opponent.

Ace started attacking on Chesster's King side until he got him cornered. Chesster smiled and shook hands with Ace and that is the end of their match. Everyone was amazed that all of them started clapping for appreciating the quality of the game and the sportsmanship of the two.

They got out in the venue at the same time and their classmates hurdled into them and Mr. Norly said,

"Both of you are amazing. The last time I got nervous like this is when I was still a student playing competitions."

Chesster laugh and then said, "I loss, but I feel like I have learned something while having the match but I can't explain what it is."

Ace and Mr. Norly looked at each other. Mr. Norly asked Ace to talk to him later.

Mr. Andy announced "What a wonderful round it is. Everyone never forget to be friended to your opponents and be like those two who have played the last match. They showed the spirit and sportsmanship of a certain level which is hard to attain. Again, let's give them a round of applause.".

Everyone clapped again, not because of what Mr. Andy said, but Ace and Chesster deserved it because they learned that even if you lose a game, you don't have to get sad because at a certain point, you have learned something special which the winner didn't get.

Mr. Norly's students have won their first round except for Chesster. They just rested on some places and Ace reminded them to replenish some energy. Some of the participants ate their snacks while waiting.

After that, Mr. Andy announced that there are fifteen minutes break for everyone before the second round of the elimination. The officials have double checked the boards and clock and Mr. Andy and company are busy tallying the scores.

There are Fifty-five who won the match, fifty-five who loses and 10 who got a draw. After the fifteen minutes and double checking the results, Mr. Andy posted the second round of the beginners second selection.

This time they didn't have to face their classmates and they are more nervous about it than the games itself. They started moving on their respective boards and waiting for the signal of the match to get started.

Good To know:

In a game, after a match ended both players are needed to setback the chess pieces to its original position to show respect and sportsmanship.

In chess, the standard scoring system is 1 point for the winner, 0 point for the losser and ½ or 0.5 for draw.

In writing about the result, if the white piece won the game, he/she would write 1-0 and 0-1 for the black. ½ - ½ for draw and both of them should sign the paper where their color is to prove that the result is true.
