Chapter 1 Part 3: The Magic Duel

"S-so...….why the hell are the two of you here? Who are you?" the girl asked.

It seems the girl's desperate state could be conveyed to Miss Saya. She quickly looked through the printout pinched between the attendance book and raised her face.

"A-about that...."

But, that expression was filled with bewilderment.

"...…..uh."

The girl heard those words and gulped down.

"They can use a Celestial Dress." Miss Saya said.

"Huuuuhh??!!! Don't be ridiculous! Men can't even use a Celestial Dress! Besides just who on earth are the two of you?" The girl said.

"Before you ask someone's name it is proper to say your name first." Kanade said in a calm but cool manner.

"Wha-?!...tch…I-I'm Marina McDowell the captain of 3rd Magi Legion Gemini, you're going to study here but you don't know who I am? Such insolence."

"Good grief, its early in the morning and you're already looking for a fight? Some kind of captain are you." Kanade said.

Marina is so angry, maybe smokes may burst from her ears anytime. Kanade on the other hand seems calm and bored.

"Well the two of you, can you stop right now? Class is going to start." Miss Saya said.

And class finally started. Marina sat beside Kanade's chair, it seems Marina will be his seatmate for the whole year. Kanade doesn't mind if Marina will be his seatmate, but for Marina she thinks Lucifer is sitting beside her. She looks at him with an intent to kill.

"Hey, hey, chill young lady, your stares are creeping me out." Kanade said.

Their first subject was basic spells, simple magic that converts human mana into magic power.

But Kanade is napping in class, seems like he's bored. But that is because he didn't get much sleep last night.

"KANADE!!!"

Miss Saya shouted causing Kanade to wake up with a chill in the spine.

"Why are you sleeping in my class? In the first day no less!"

"Sorry ma'am didn't get much sleep last night."

After he said that Kanade yawned causing Miss Saya to be much angrier.

"Oooh?? Then Mr. Kurumizawa would you mind be our teacher for the whole day? I would be grateful for you to do so." Marina said.

"I don't see any merit to do so." Kanade replied.

"T-then I will do anything you tell me to do if you can be our teacher today, i-is that enough?

Kanade made a lustful smile while laughing.

"You sure? There's no going back!" Kanade said.

"Y-yeah."

After that Kanade's lustful smile turned into a dismayed expression as if his hopes turned him down.

"Ugh, you're no fun, fine."

Kanade went in front and took a piece of chalk and wrote something.

"SELF-STUDY!!!" was written on the board. Everyone in the class was surprised.

"Study with your books, you didn't buy them just as display, but most importantly....I'm sleepy so I'm going to sleep." Kanade said.

"H-Huuuuuh??!! Wait, what the hell do you think you're doing?!" Marina shouted.

"Huh? I don't know what you're saying. I'm the teacher so I'll do whatever I want here."

"Miss Saya, please tell him to stop this and be serious about teaching!" Marina said.

"Hm? Oh, sorry I can't do that, he's our 'teacher' after all."

"Tch… damn it." Marina whispered to herself.

Kanade took this opportunity as a "teacher" to sleep at the whole session.

It's 2nd subject the first subject ended smoothly for Kanade.

"Ahhh… thanks for the sleep…" Kanade said.

"Hey, what the hell is wrong with your stupid head?" Marina dashed in front of Kanade to say that.

"Sorry, I'm 'stupid' so I don't know." Kanade replied.

"Okay, that's enough Kanade, you must learn how to stop okay?" Shuu joined the

conversation.

"Sure Captain."

Next subject. Alchemy, Kanade was walking in the halls, searching for a toilet and luckily he found one. He kicked the bathroom's door and found something that he shouldn't have.

He saw his classmates' in their underwear and some of them are half-naked.

Kanade can't suppress his embarrassment, especially when he saw Marina's body, his head is overheating and can explode any minute.

"P-p-pardon the intrusion!!!!" Kanade said and quickly closed the bathroom.

Kanade almost died in pressure.

"Oh sh*t, that almost killed me."

It's time for Kanade's Alchemy class, he's so nervous he's hesitating to go.

Kanade went inside the classroom and he can feel his students' sharp glare and that's what killing Kanade right now.

He *cough* *cough* to get everyone's attention.

"SELF-STUDY!!!" He wrote again in the board.

"Hey, stop messing with us! Do your work!!" Marina shouted.

"Look, I don't even want to teach or study here, I'm just threatened to do so." Kanade replied with a sigh.

"Then leave, you Perverted Sloth Bastard!!!" Marina said.

"Language Captain." Kanade replied.

"U-um… Teacher? There's one thing in the book that I don't understand. Can you explain this to me?" One of his classmates mustered her courage to ask.

"Hm, let me see…"

Kanade looked at her book like a genius.

"Ha, I don't understand it either." Kanade shrugged.

"Eh?"

"Wha—so you don't even know the basics of Alchemy? So those glasses are just a decoration." Marina said.

"Cap, don't butt in on other people's conversation do you not have any manners?" Kanade replied.

"Forget it, come on Lisa I'll just tell you, you can't count on someone who has no knowledge and acknowledgment on a thing as helpful as magic." Marina said.

"Helpful? You gotta be kidding me." Kanade replied.

"What did you say?"

"Oh nothing, I don't think I can agree with magic being 'helpful' at all."

"How do you say so?"

"Well, what is this thing you call 'magic'? And why is it helpful? Give me an acceptable reason to think magic is helpful."

"And why should I answer you?"

"Ehem, I'm a teacher ehem."

*Sigh* "Magic is a sacred art that can be used by converting mana into a certain element, it is a sacred art used by the 7 races since the oldest times. There are 11 basic elements. Fire, Water, Earth, Electric, Nature, Metal, Poison, Bug, Normal, Ice, and Wind, these are the easiest ones to use. Then we have the 3 complex elements, these are elements that are powerful, but they cost a lot of mana. These are Fairy, Psychic, and Dragon. And lastly, the 2 legendary elements, Dark and Light, these are hard to master and cost a lot of mana and only a few people knows how to use it."

"Huh? You're not making any sense. That's basically common knowledge, what I'm asking is why magic so helpful, good grief, are you really a captain?" Kanade said.

"Tch, you could've said that earlier!"

"Yah, go ahead."

"Magic has helped us throughout the years, it helped the 7 races to provide their needs, it gives us the ability to produce more crops and develop our civilization. It also helps us to discover the truth from life."

"And what exactly do we need to discover?" Kanade asked.

"To discover the Gods and the reason why we're here."

"Oops, you forgot something. True it helped us throughout the years but you forgot something. The thing that really helped people, it is...….. Magic, helped us to kill each other." Kanade said that with a menacing look.

The students looked at him with malice.

"H-Hey, stop saying things like that." Marina said in a nervous tone.

"Huh? Isn't it obvious? Magic helped us to kill, period. It gave us the ability to annihilate our enemies more efficiently. You can kill a person or two with just a knife, but with magic, it can help you to kill hundreds! Isn't it right Marina? Right?" Kanade said, his menacing look still won't fade.

"Hey! I'm telling you to stop!!" Marina said.

"And Gods? Give me a break! You idiots still don't realize it yet? Gods created us and gave us magic to watch us kill each other! That's what entertainment is for them! Imagine, the crime rate here in Haddon Kingdom is high. Now tell me if the Gods love us, then why will they let them be succumbed to greed and evil?"

"FOR REAL, STOP! I will hit you!!" Marina warned. Marina is almost on the verge of tears, she will start to cry any second now.

"Hey, cool down captain, what I'm saying is the truth and only the truth. Look captain, in conclusion. MAGIC IS JUST ONE HELL OF A MESSED UP THING THAT DO NOTHING BUT MAKE US SUFF---!!"

*SMAACCKK*

Kanade was not able to finish his words. He can only feel the pain from Marina's hands that slapped him in his face. His astonishment can be seen from his expression.

"You're the worst!! Just die already, get out!" Marina said that while tears are flowing down from her cheeks. She then left the room while smashing the door shut.

"Man, this really went out of hand." Miss Saya said in astonishment.

"Tch… hey all of you, what are you looking at? Hurry up and study!" Kanade can't do anything but touch his numb cheek.

He thought maybe he said too much. Maybe he'll apologize later.

Its lunch time, and everyone are busy ordering their lunch. Meanwhile Kanade and Shuu are eating their own packed lunch while chatting.

"Hey dude, you went too far earlier. I felt sorry for Marina." Shuu said.

"Ooohh?? You're worried about that mongrel? I didn't know you have a sh*t taste on women." Kanade replied.

"Hey, cut it out will you?! Just what did she do to you to make you hate her that much?!" Shuu's rant took the attention of the people around them.

"Calm down, kind sir. You're taking everyone's attention, don't worry I'll apologize later."

"You better do it later." Shuu then stood up and left.

"Good grief, even my best friend is in her side."

While Kanade is finishing his lunch, a beautiful lady sat beside him, a lady that seems older than him.

"Hi, Kana. How are you?"

"Oh, hi Sis, I'm fine."

Yes, this is his senior, Yoko Winchell. She is a Big Sister for Kanade even though they're not blood-related. She is a busty beauty, with a shiny side-ponytailed black hair. You can feel a sibling aura when they are together.

"I heard you made Captain Marina cry?" Yoko asked.

"Yeah, but it's not intentional so don't worry."

"Oh my, Kanade you like making girls cry aren't you? Big Sis is worried."

"Oh c'mon Sis, don't tell me you're on her side too?"

"No way, I'm on your side and yours alone Kana."

"Yeah, thanks Sis."

"So, are you okay? Are you comfortable here? If you have any questions just ask me okay?"

"Don't worry Sis, I'm fine."

"Is that so?"

After their short conversation Kanade finished his meal along with Yoko and left. Kanade then went in the classroom, and the dark atmosphere went darker when he went inside.

"Okay class, today's lesson is Sci—"

Kanade didn't finished what he's saying because Marina suddenly stood up from her chair, and went in front of Kanade.

"Hey, what are you—"

Kanade can't speak because of the glove Marina threw in his face.

Everyone in the room gasped. Marina is challenging Kanade to a duel, a Magic Duel.

"Hey now, you sure about this?" Kanade said.

"Yeah, I had enough of your actions, it's time for you to end this bullcrap."

"Well, I got no choice. Fine, a duel you say? Let's see each other at the schoolyard after school."

"Hey Kanade! Cut it out, I thought you'll apologize to her!" Shuu couldn't stop his anger anymore.

"Shuu, stay out of this." Kanade looked at him with menacing eyes as if telling him not to do something suspicious.

"Greg, stay out of this, it's getting interesting." A student told him.

"So, what do you want?" Kanade asked Marina.

"If I win, I'll give you two choices: either you leave this academy, or you'll stay but you should fix your bad attitude."

"And if I win?"

"At least decide that for yourself."

"Fine."

4:00pm, at the schoolyard. Kanade and Marina are facing each other 10 meters away, they are preparing for their duel.

"This is madness." Shuu said.

"No, this is Magic!" Kanade told Shuu with a grin.

"Back out now Kanade, you don't even know how to use basic magic."

"You don't really trust me do you? Don't worry I have a plan."

After 10 minutes, Kanade stood up from his chair ready for the fight.

"Well, well, well, why don't we start?" Kanade said with a confident smile.

Marina went in front, also ready to fight.

"Okay, since I'm the one who was challenged, I have the right to say the rules right?"

"Yeah, I'm fine with that."

"Then, the rules are simple. In this match, we'll only use the most basic spell, Electro Shock."

"What?!"

Everyone are surprised to hear that.

"What's the meaning of this?"

Everyone are whispering to each other.

"Electro Shock? But why?"

"I think I know why." A student told them.

"Hm? What could that be Charlene?"

"True, Electro Shock is the easiest and simplest spell that can be learned, but depending on the user's spell amplification it can have a huge result."

"Are you saying that it's a battle of higher intelligence stat?"

"Yeah, and first of all let's go back to the basics. Electro Shock is a basic electric spell that can paralyze the target with high amplification, the chant is: 'Electric spirits, empower me, and strike with electric power' but it can be shortened as 'Electro Shock'."

"So not only high amplification but chant speed too?"

"Yeah, but Kanade is underestimating his enemy. That's Marina McDowell, also known as the 'Angel' her high agility and Intelligence stat gives her the advantage in this duel."

"But base on Kanade's smile, it seems he's confident about his power, maybe he's planning something?"

"Well, this is getting interesting. Let's see who will win."

And so the match begins.

"Do you have no regrets Kanade?" Marina asked.

"Now, don't steal my line." Kanade replied.

Right now Marina thinks: 'I can't let him study here with his behavior, he'll just destroy the school's reputation.'

"Okay, here I go." Marina said.

"Electro Shock!"

Marina's Electro Shock went to Kanade's direction. Kanade, with his confident smile is still not doing anything. Instead he just swayed his hair as if he's threatening her.

"KAAAaaahh!!!!" Kanade screamed in pain. He can feel his body being electrocuted.

Kanade almost threw up in pain.

"Eh?" Everyone's surprised.

"H-hm, n-not bad at all. As expected of a captain. Fine, I'll give you the first round, because this is a 3-round match!" Kanade said.

"It is?" Marina replied.

"Okay, I'm going to be serious now! Electric spirits, empower me---!"

"Electro Shock!" Marina chanted.

"Kyaaaahh!!!" And again Kanade was hit by Marina's spell.

"O-oooh?? Not bad. You got me because this is a 5-round match! Sorry for goofing around, my bad!"

"5? But you said 3—forget it, okay I'm ready!"

"Wait, what is that?" Kanade said.

"Hm, what?" Marina looked away.

"Ha, stupid! You fell for it! Electric spirits---!!"

"Electro Shock."

"Gyaaahh!!!" Kanade fell down to the ground, maybe smokes come out from his body.

"Kanade, don't tell me… you can't shorten the chant of Electro Shock?"

"H-huh??? Stop talking nonsense! Shortening the chant is just for cowards and cowards only! But I'm not saying this because I can't do it or anything!"

"So he can't huh."

"Anyway, I win so as promised---"

"Huh? What promise? Sorry I don't know what you're talking about!"

"HUUH?!!"

"Well, I just gave you a veeery large handicap, and since you're a girl, I just let you win. Farewell!"

Kanade ran away and he tripped from doing so, but he fled successfully.

Everyone watching is disappointed at this match, seems like they lost interest in the match. Some already went home, some are using their phones, and others are just doing a face palm.

"That bastard."
