However, in the middle of the night, when he woke up, Percy Stanton found that Isabel Smith, lying next to him, was nowhere to be seen. He hastily looked under the bed covers, got up, and went around the entire bedroom but could not find her. He then walked out and noticed that the door to Raymond Thompson's bedroom was half-open. As Percy approached the door, he peered through the slit and saw Isabel sitting blankly beside Raymond's bed, looking at the sleeping Raymond.
