The inside of the car was eerily quiet. After covering more than half of the journey, Percy Stanton suddenly spoke softly, "Isabel Smith, if you didn't want to meet Mr. and Mrs. Shaw, why did you come? I told you, we could have rescheduled."
Despite not looking at her, his voice— deep, carrying an emotion she could not decipher— unsettled her. Isabel rolled her eyes and replied, unconsciously, albeit insincerely, "No, I just suddenly felt unwell. It's not that I didn't want to meet them."
Percy did not look at Isabel, but simply focused on the road ahead. As the beeping of the navigation system subsided, he continued in a soft voice, "Isabel Smith, lies are for those who do not understand themselves. I'm not like others, others may believe what you say because they see with their eyes, not their hearts. But I do, and I can see everything."
