Can You Trust Me?

"Urgghhh…" Francis suddenly fell on his knees and vomiting blood. His face turned really pale and he look so weak. I, who had just entered his office, hurriedly took a handkerchief and approached him. "What happened? This is not your first time vomiting blood!" I asked, pretending to panic. I knew the reason why he was in this state, it was because I poisoned him. "Cough… cough…" he coughed as he was vomiting blood. "I'm fine. As you said this is not my first time vomiting blood so I can handle it." He said after he stopped vomiting blood. "But I guess you have to stop pretending." He paused and moved his body closer to me. "Charlize," he whispered right to my ears. He still looked so weak due to the poison but he seemed like already used to it. "I know it is you who make me in this state." ------------- Hi everyone!!!  Thank you for supporting me this far, and sorry for not continuing this work. Mysterious Girl (Roosevelt POV)

In this empire, if you want to be the crown prince, all you had to do was become the first prince. The rules of the empire state that the first prince was more prioritized to be the crown prince except if he was incompetent. Even if I was the son of the empress, Brother Francis, who was born from a maid, had a better chance to be the crown prince.

Since I was young, I was aware that my mother and our family's reputation was on my shoulders. I was their hope to raise their honor. In order to do that, I had to become the crown prince, no matter what it takes.

The fact that Brother Francis had more privilege just because he was the first prince was also the reason why I studied a lot. I would never let him become my superior! How come the son of a maid ruled over me?!

My family, the Ashford family, also supported me with their power. They sent me the best tutor and provided me and my mother with anything we needed at the palace. They planted spies to watch over Brother Francis and limit his movement. That way he wouldn't be able to grow his power and be naturally eliminated.

My future as the crown prince was more certain when Olivia Whitley, the daughter of Marquis Whitley started to work as my uncle's advisor. She was a talented girl that everyone praised.

She was helping me a lot to grow my power and gain the support of other nobles. She gave some advice to my uncle and when my uncle thought it was a good thing he told me to do it. By time, I got stronger and stronger. I have more supporters and acknowledgement.

One day, my uncle sent a letter mentioning a way to gain the emperor's attention. He stated that I had to propose the idea to build relations with the Helsa kingdom. In his letter, my uncle explained every detail of what I have to say clearly and I only need to follow it. He also told me that it was Olivia's idea.

The next day, I tried to follow his instructions. I proposed the idea with exactly the same explanation written on the letter.

'Amazing. You could think that far in such a young age! You are a genius!' I could remember what my father, the emperor, said that time. Not only the emperor, everyone who attended the meeting also praised me. 'You have to develop your talent more than this. I will let you enter the successor class.'

Since that time, I had attended the successor class, even though I was fourteen years old. Normally, a prince would attend the successor class when they were sixteen. Someone who received the emperor's permission, could attend it earlier. That was a rare thing; such a special case.

Everything went smoothly. I enjoyed the class and prepared to be the crown prince. Everyone was expecting me to be the next crown prince.

But lately, I started to get jealous of Olivia. She praised me more than me, as if she was the only hope of my family. She was only the daughter of Marquis Whitley, who worked for my uncle but why was she treated like the daughter of Ashford? Even my uncle tolerated some of her mistakes.

It started to become clear when the last annual evaluation's result was reported. The family only blamed me that my progress was so slow. They overlooked Olivia's mistake that she didn't even know why Brother Francis managed to get seventy.

Uncle even engaged her to Rowan, my cousin. No. Beside Brother Francis, I had to get rid of Olivia! I would never let her take my spot. Only me who would become the proud of the Ashford family! No one else.

I realized that Olivia must have some weakness or even a dark secret. So, I decided to watch her closely, to find something about her.

This night, a new year party was held at the palace's party hall. Everyone paid their attention only to Olivia, who was just engaged to Rowan. What a nuisance? I hate this situation! But I had to endure my feelings well.

Suddenly, in the middle of the party, I saw Olivia acting suspiciously, as if she was making sure no one focused on her. Silently, I followed her to find any clues. From the path she took, I guess she was going to the garden. I wonder what she would do there.

Unfortunately, I lost her because of the crowd. I tried to find her around the garden, but I found another interesting view instead. At the garden, there was Brother Francis with someone that I didn't know who. That person was a girl who wore a big robe, hood and even her face covered.

I hurriedly hid behind bushes to watch them. Who was she and her reason to meet Brother Francis? Were they close? Should I report this view? Olivia would be in trouble if she couldn't find out who she was.

It took more than an hour and half for them to talk. I couldn' hear what were they talking about. My position was way too far to hear something.

When the girl had left, I was about to follow her to know her identity. But, when I just arrived at the garden's gate, another girl stood, looking at me.

That girl then bowed to me. "Greetings your highness. I'm Lydia Whitley, the eldest daughter of the Whitley family."

Lydia Whitley, the eldest daughter of the Whitley family? So, she was Olivia's older sister? What was she doing here? Did she notice that I was hiding there?

I bowed slightly to respond to her. "Greetings Lady Whitley." I gave my best fake smile to her. "I hope you have a good day, today, especially at the party."

"Thank you, your highness." She smiled. "Honestly, I was following my sister. There is something I want to know about her in secret. But, as I followed her, I found you here."

What did she mean by her sister? Was that mysterious girl someone from the Whitley family? Or even that girl was Olivia? She was walking this way after all.

If so, then Olivia betrayed us? Or even the Whitley betrayed Ashford? I was confused but if I could use this information right, maybe I could get rid of Olivia.
